So frustrated. I do have adhd and anxiety so dunno if this is normal or not but feel so thick and stupid.

When cleaning the bathroom, I seem to end up with loads of drips running off the edge of the sink for example, it's clean water but just so sloppy looking. I use kitchen towel to mop it up.

I use a sponge for the sink and shower but for the loo I use kitchen towel or if the sponge is about to be thrown away I'll use it. But what do normal people do?

Do you have a sponge that's just for cleaning the loo separate and how long do you use it before chucking? It fucking grosses me out to think of having a loo sponge even though the loo is actually very clean. I do use a loo brush to give it a scrub it with a toilet cleaning product but that's the inside - when I say I use paper or a sponge for the loo I mean for the seat and around the top part to make sure no dust.

Feeling clueless and frustrated. It's trivial stuff but honestly I just want to be able to efficiently whip round my bathroom and have it clean and sparkling and neat, so can anyone give me sensible foolproof tips?

I hate cleaning, but like us all, want a clean house...

I use blue for loo, so blue sponge/cloth just for this.
I hate the smell of flash or any spray cleaner, I’m definitely a fan of cream cleaners.
Recommend rimless toilets, much easier to keep clean.
I use microfibre cloths for drying surfaces to a shine after cleaning.

Thatwentbadly · 24/03/2021 16:17

Put bleach down the loo. Spray everything thing bathroom cleaner, using one blue cloth, clean the bath (then start running it for the kids) clean the shower tray, clean sink, loo, put the cloth in the bin, empty the bin, dry loo with toilet paper and put in the toilet.

EpiphanySoul1 · 24/03/2021 16:18

Urgh so awful about using used towels to clean hotel bathrooms 😷

I clean the bathroom once a week. Bleach down the toilet and under the rim. Use anti bacterial wipes to wipe all the sink then use them to wipe toilet and rim last then bin them.

I rarely clean my bath. I rinse it after I use it and I am the only person who uses it so I don’t see a need for scrubbing it or using chemicals on it. Also rarely clean the shower used by myself & DH. A rinse after it’s used seems to be enough.

I use Viakal for most things in the bathroom as we're in a hard water area so lots of limescale otherwise, thick bleach for the loo, drop of Zoflora for kitchen surfaces, different sponges for bathroom and kitchen (regularly replaced) toilet brush for inside the toilet. In the bathroom we have a towel (regularly washed) which is just for wiping the bath after use and so on, so I dry the sink with that after cleaning. Windows, mirrors, screens etc get cleaned with Mr Muscle window and glass cleaner and kitchen roll. Floors get cleaned with very dilute Zoflora using a microfibre mop.

My mum dusts the living room (thank you- I hate dusting!) using a Mr Sheen all purpose cleaner. Hoovering downstairs done by Eufy, I do upstairs and stairs with Miele cat and dog hoover, and occasionally go over downstairs with it.

DH empties the bins, does the dishwasher and mows the lawn. Just about Hmm

A bag of microfibre rags from the range. They are in the car maintenance section. So much cheaper than the cloths and they are bigger.
You get about 30 in a bag.
I use once for a clean and then chuck them in a hot wash.

CoRhona · 24/03/2021 16:22

Disposable anti bacterial wipes here too. I have teen boys and there is no way I am washing a cloth after use on the toilet Envy

TheDuchessOfBeddington · 24/03/2021 16:33

I use a micro fibre cloth (blue is bathroom only) for sink and bath.

The loo I use a loo brush on. Then spray the whole thing and wipe clean with loo roll, starting at the cistern and ending under the rim. I use loo roll rather than kitchen roll so I can flush it.

TheDuchessOfBeddington · 24/03/2021 16:36

Oh obviously I use loo cleaner/bleach first before the loo brush.

airbags · 24/03/2021 16:37

@Dandelionflower

I've worked in a few hotels, in every one we used the old towels to dry the bathroom after cleaning. So yes, looks clean but isn't, sometimes no cleaning products were used, just wiped dry. I never ever use the glass in a hotel bathroom. I've seen many a glass wiped with the towel, the towel used by the previous occupier, used to dry the bath sink and toilet, wipe the mirror and sometimes even the floor. I NEVER did this, I couldn't bring myself to but it was very common.
Holy crap! I'm now taking cleaning products to every hotel I go to in the future. That's disgusting!
Deadringer · 24/03/2021 16:41

I do mine exactly the same way as you op, it's grand.

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 24/03/2021 16:42

I use bleach spray on loo roll to clean the seat of the toilet. I flush it once I've wiped everything. I don't have a loo brush and just lob some bleach down the loo.

I then use handwash on a cloth to clean the sink and I use the same handwash to clean the bath and shower, I do it whilst showering but as I'm using handwash I know it's safe for my skin. I steam mop the floor and dust the mirror and other surfaces.

Nelia5 · 24/03/2021 16:44

The hotel method: 2 microfibre clothes, pink for sink and blue for loo. Squirt toilet cleaner around toilet bowl and rim (not allowed to use bleach), use toilet brush to clean inside toilet. Hot water and bathroom cleaner for bath & sink, tiles and taps. Scourer for sink and bath then rinse off and wipe dry with microfibres cloths. Mirror with glass cleaner and cotton cloth. We do not use dirty towels. Floor with mop and antibacterial floor cleaner

Fnib · 24/03/2021 17:04

Well, I try to keep as little as poss in my loo and bathroom. So no clutter. Makes it so much easier. I shower first thing, then use my used towel (funny, got this tip from a chambermaid friend) to wipe the bath and tiles (whilst still naked, not a pretty sight, as I get back in bath to do it!) Then I do the bathroom floor and toilet floor, then towel goes in laundry and I get dressed.
Next, a bit of shower gel goes down loo (an old one that I don't like on my skin and needs using up) and I use loo brush to clean it (full blast of toilet cleaner once a week, under rim and left to work for a while) I use a microfiber cloth to clean basin/taps/mirror, followed by dry one, then use same cloths round outside toilet/seat etc. Then put in laundry. I do it daily and it take minutes (5?) and it's never disgusting so I don't feel bad washing those things with other things (though not teatowels) My bathroom cloths are separate from kitchen ones too.

apurplecar · 24/03/2021 17:07

@Confusedandshaken

Washable microfibre cloths for sink and showers.

For the loos I buy packs of scrubby sponges, about £1 for a pack of 10 in supermarkets/Poundland etc. I do a proper clean of the loos, bowls, lids, pedestals, rims, U-bend with one of these and some Ajax every couple of weeks. Oven sponge does all 4 loos and then goes straight in the bin.

That's really wasteful.

I use the kitchen cloth from the day before clean the bathroom, then put the cloth in the wash.

I clean the bathroom every other day.

No one. No one has died because they washed a cloth.
GirlInterruptedAgain · 24/03/2021 17:22

Use a cloth. Blue for loo and green for clean. Most bathrooms are tiled ( aren’t they?) so a cloth with either bathroom spray or a bucket of bleach water will do the job. Just remember to rinse the cloth each time so you’re also soaking up excess water as you clean. For toilet use kitchen towel/spray / wipes then I would go over with the cloth/ spray around the lid etc.

MissFlite · 24/03/2021 17:47

Spray loo all over, wipe with loo roll, flush it. Squirt of bleach. Ta-da

The shower is the one that defeats me Sad we live in a very hard-water area

Crystal90567 · 24/03/2021 17:49

I use anti bac wipes (just the cheapest available) and flash bathroom cleaner.
I spray the sink and wipe. I spray the bath and wipe. Ditto mirror etc and floor. I used to use more substantial cloths/ kitchen sponges, but threw them out so often (every time) that its actually more eco to use wipes. I dont like putting them in with rest of washing or them piling up.

I use wipes and spray for the loo. I flush these. Seems bit rank to keep them, or even put in bin.

Recently learnt that brillo pads clean enamel baths beautifully. Previously used kitchen green scourer.

Fnib · 24/03/2021 17:49

This thread has answered the question of why people needed so much toilet roll at the beginning of lockdown.

KitchenFairy · 24/03/2021 17:59

Well I didn't expect this. This thread has been both amusing and horrifying...

First, I get naked. Don’t ask me why, I just always have done. Grin

I will never ever again use one of those little glasses in a hotel bathroom, now I know that it's probably covered in arse particles of the rooms previous occupant, after being wiped over with their used towels. Envy

SmashedAvocado · 24/03/2021 18:41

How filthy are people toilets if they have to have special cloths to wipe them over that get binned or straight in the wash? I assume a separate wash Hmm.

I have 3 boys (preteen and teen) and a DH and they were all trained to pee sitting down at home so there’s no pee on the loo seats.

I've found keeping a bottle of Method shower cleaner and a microfibre cloth in the shower has helped in our hard water area. I spray and wipe after each shower. Takes less than a minute and helps keep on top of limescale.
MrsClatterbuck · 24/03/2021 19:34

For the loo I use those paper towels which you can rinse and wring out. First I let soak a while with bleach and then use one of those Toilet duck thingys I then put some flash and Zoflora or bleach in a bucket and clean rest of toilet. Towels then get binned. For the rest of the cleaning I use a spray cleaner or fill sink with flash using those cloths that come on a roll. I justvronse them and let them dry for next time. When they are done I just bin. I wash the floor with hot water bleach or Zoflora and some flash liquid. Just love my Vileda Spin mop which is the best mop I have ever had.

MrsClatterbuck · 24/03/2021 19:36

I have also started using gloves for cleaning the loo. have got to get those disposable gloves used up somehow

Ikora · 24/03/2021 19:40

I worked as a chambermaid when I was at school. I didn’t use dirty towels but I remember some people being questionable in their cleaning methods. I always use bottled water and rinse the cups out with boiling water before use.

DH and DS do it and before that we had a cleaner for a decade. My area to clean is the kitchen, they do bathrooms.
