Disgusting things discovered on MN

Pricklypear12 · 24/03/2021 14:34

During my time on MN I have read about some disgusting/unhygienic things that people do on a regular basis.

Examples are:
Letting dogs lick human plates
Washing dog bowls in dishwasher with regular dishes
Sharing bath water (seen this one today!)
Sucking snot out of a baby's nose (I somewhat get it but really think I could never)

What are some vile things you've read about on MN that are seemingly normal to those that post about them?

@Mamamamasaurus

Dragon butter? Munting? 🤔
DONT DO IT Grin
Chanjer · 24/03/2021 15:29

So I don't

Yeah don't

darcysshirt1 · 24/03/2021 15:30

@Chanjer

How do you know the methods "most people you know" use to clean themselves? I have never discussed it with anyone?

It's absolutely a cultural norm for Muslims for example to wash so this doesn't seem like something someone wouldn't know.

Like you know most people in the UK wipe with toilet paper without discussing it

Yes that's very true. Although the poster wasn't talking about washing, but wetting the loo paper.
Northernsoullover · 24/03/2021 15:30

Can I make a recommendation for dry wipers? You can buy sprays that turn bog standard bog roll into wet wipes!

StCharlotte · 24/03/2021 15:30

@MimiDaisy11

You could wet the tissue first then wipe which is what most people I know do

I've never asked anyone how they clean their arse before. Am I alone?

You are not.
BaggoMcoys · 24/03/2021 15:30

Most days I poo in the morning soon after I wake up and then I have a shower to wash. I'd love a bidet, but I wouldn't use wet wipes because I know they're really bad for the environment.

I don't wash towels after every use because I think that's bad for the environment. I also change my bedding a lot less than MN would approve of, and tend to wear the same clothes several times unless they get stained or smell (except underwear, these are always washed after one wear). I've lived with quite a few different people over the course of my life, and have never been the odd one out in terms of how often I do laundry so I find some of the standards on MN a bit unrealistic.

PattyPan · 24/03/2021 15:30

In general I’m disgusted by the flagrant disregard for the environment shown by many MNers but the thread a few months ago about people not washing their hands after having a wee honestly disturbed me Envy < not envy

Lweji · 24/03/2021 15:31

I'm not a Brit.

But I do think that these habits by some Brits are not hygienic enough:
not rinsing plates after washing.
not having a quick shower after a bath. (see above)
washing hands less than what I was raised with - always after a pee, when returning home from the street and before meals.

I dry wipe. But we have bidets for difficult occasions. Grin
Having said that, I tend to have a morning poo before showering. Rarely in the middle of the day. So my bum is usually nice and clean throughout the day anyway. Halo

darcysshirt1 · 24/03/2021 15:31

I do think washing is probably much better, I would like one of those loos with the wash thing attachment.

Occitane · 24/03/2021 15:31

Can I just point out that they sell dragon butter in Tesco?

I was the eldest of four children and we frequently used the same bathwater! There were general rules - no peeing in the bath unless you were the last one - no soaking just wash and go. We always had bubble bath and a bath every night before bed. I think I was about 12 before we had a big enough hot water tank to cope with 6 baths a night ! And we had a shower installed Grin.

I also only change my bed every fortnight but I have a shower before bed every night so am clean and its just me and I wear pyjamas. I change towels every week as I'm stingy with the heating so they don't always dry properly after use and sometimes get a bit smelly.

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/03/2021 15:32

ewww I just googled

darcysshirt1 · 24/03/2021 15:33

Doesn't the bog roll disintergrate?
rose69 · 24/03/2021 15:33

DD licks plates and those and his bowls go in dishwasher. Surely having a drunken snog with a stranger is more unhygienic than sharing bath water with family member

supercatlady · 24/03/2021 15:34

I’m certainly “unclean” by many of these standards!

As for this from a PP “The only thing I've seen on MN recently that I thought was genuinely vile was the thread about not washing hands if you've only had a quick wee”

Do you wee on your hands?

CounsellorTroi · 24/03/2021 15:34

@Chanjer

What's dry wiping?

Much of the rest of the world washes their bum after a shit, rather than just wiping with toilet paper

Well I dry wipe, but I take a shower after I've had a shit in the morning, and give my arse a soaping anyway. Is that OK?
Lweji · 24/03/2021 15:35

Do you wee on your hands?

Don't you wipe after a wee?

FatCatThinCat · 24/03/2021 15:35

Oh my word, I just googled 'munting'. I need to go out now for some fresh air. Ewwww. Ewwwww. EWWWWWWWW!

TeaAddict235 · 24/03/2021 15:36

Stupid stuff about not having a loo brush. So what do they use to clean the loo bowl??

You must bathe your children EvERY single night otherwise SS will be after you, don't cha know. Poppycock

The stupid argument over wearing dog muck covered shoes in the house or not. My house, my rules.

People wishing to crucify a user for considering a second/third/ ninth child. Again, my womb, my choice. Bugger off.

Girlmama3 · 24/03/2021 15:36

Penis beaker.

SpilltheTea · 24/03/2021 15:36

It's fascinating how people survived years ago without washing their bedding every day or having a dishwasher.
I thought I had high standards before these threads.

lovemelongtime · 24/03/2021 15:36

snot sucking - OMG that is soooo gross I actually feel sick

StCharlotte · 24/03/2021 15:36

I love how quickly this thread is moving! I've got a rare quiet afternoon workwise. I could be putting the laundry away but but...

eddiemairswife · 24/03/2021 15:37

When my mother was a girl she and her sisters would bath in a tin bath in front of the fire. Mum always had the first bath because she could tolerate really hot water. In fact after her bath the water was often too hot for the next sister to get in. As a child I loved having a bath at Grandma's in front of the fire.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 24/03/2021 15:37

@Pricklypear12

This thread has too many issues (a bit like many MNers🤣🤣).

But let me just say, if you want a seriously gross list, start a thread on 'what do you wash in your dishwasher'

You will have your mind blown.
