Disgusting things discovered on MN

999 replies

Pricklypear12 · 24/03/2021 14:34

During my time on MN I have read about some disgusting/unhygienic things that people do on a regular basis.

Examples are:
Letting dogs lick human plates
Washing dog bowls in dishwasher with regular dishes
Sharing bath water (seen this one today!)
Sucking snot out of a baby's nose (I somewhat get it but really think I could never)

What are some vile things you've read about on MN that are seemingly normal to those that post about them?

I was just thinking the other day that it's been ages since I last saw anyone post "eeewww" or "boak" or "grim" on here. I was wondering where all the competitive daintiness had got to.

Quaversplease · 24/03/2021 14:53

My dog doesn't lick my plates but what is the problem with putting her bowls in the dishwasher? Everything gets blasted with hot water and detergent.

FuckyouCovid21 · 24/03/2021 14:53

Dry wiping?

Mamamamasaurus · 24/03/2021 14:53

Dragon butter? Munting? 🤔

Wildern · 24/03/2021 14:53

@PlasticCupPolitics

Surely you’ve misunderstood sucking snot from a baby’s nose? I’m 99% sure these people aren’t doing it directly with their mouth. You can buy little gadgets from the chemist, you suck on the tube and out comes the snot BUT there is a stopper on the tube so the snot physically cannot go into your mouth...

Wtf is dry wiping?

Yes to this. I had a snot sucker when DS was little. Not sure I ever used it, but I had it.
paperandfireworks · 24/03/2021 14:54

I'm going to guess dry wiping is wiping your bum with loo roll instead of wet wipes?

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 24/03/2021 14:55

@Pricklypear12

I get that people love their dogs but I honestly could not eat at someone's house knowing their dog has perhaps had a good lick in the past.

Ugh I do NOT pee in the shower, that's another grim one.

When you come to mine I will give you a paper plate.

Full and frank disclosure:
DDog sometimes licks bits off plates

We have a dishwasher and I don't really think that any dog germs remain as it's been years and we are all thriving...

DayBath · 24/03/2021 14:55

@sst1234 don't leave everyone in suspense, come back and explain what dry wiping means!

Chanjer · 24/03/2021 14:55

What's dry wiping?

Much of the rest of the world washes their bum after a shit, rather than just wiping with toilet paper

ethelredonagoodday · 24/03/2021 14:55

I also have no clue what dry wiping is.

StCharlotte · 24/03/2021 14:55

Why would that be disgusting?

Unexpectedbaby · 24/03/2021 14:56

Will someone please clarify what dry wiping is!

LaceyBetty · 24/03/2021 14:56

@Janaih

Whats wrong with putting animal food bowls in the dishwasher? It sterilises everything in it.
Agree. A lot more hygienic than hand washing them in the kitchen sink.
StCharlotte · 24/03/2021 14:57

@paperandfireworks

I'm going to guess dry wiping is wiping your bum with loo roll instead of wet wipes?
Sorry my question was in reply to this..
Chanjer · 24/03/2021 14:57

Why would that be disgusting?

The logic being if you had a bit of shit on any other part of your body you wouldn't just scrape it off with paper

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/03/2021 14:57

My cats sleep on my bed and I let them lick the plates.
I also chuck all the washing in together.
Noooooo to bathwater or snot ghough, bleeurgh.

I guess we all have things that are fine and others that aren't.

Unexpectedbaby · 24/03/2021 14:58

Also the only reason I don't put my cats bowls in the dishwasher is because they are never off the ground long enough for a cycle and I don't think they are dishwasher safe. Strongly considering a second set just so that I can though

sst1234 · 24/03/2021 14:58

@DayBath, like chanjer said, basically not just wiping with dry tissue. Lots of debates on this MN in the past. Washing or at least wet wiping for basic hygiene. Many have said in the past how they wash in the shower etc, since most people don’t have bidets in their houses.

Merename · 24/03/2021 14:59

I haven’t done snot sucking but the idea doesn’t offend me. I think it’s a normal practice for some cultures around the world and to me sounds like tender motherly care. I imagine I do many things that some of you would find disgusting. These threads often fascinate me as to how others think, and how different we all are. I think it’s a shame when they get sneery and feels like playground put down chat rather than a load of adults curious about how others live.

FuckyouCovid21 · 24/03/2021 15:00

I manage perfectly well to clean myself up after a shit with toilet paper only - am I disgusting?

WetJan · 24/03/2021 15:00

Re. Sharing bath water, do you mean one after the other or at the same time? DH and I used to rather enjoy the latter Grin

Lweji · 24/03/2021 15:01

@TeckanandMultra

I thought this was going to be more along the lines of dragon butter and munting...
Right?

I don't think the OP has been here long enough. Grin

Pricklypear12 · 24/03/2021 15:03

@WetJan one after the other!

OP posts:
WetJan · 24/03/2021 15:04

Well that's just no fun then, isn't it?

KizzyWayfarer · 24/03/2021 15:04

DH has very hot deep baths (no sense of water economy). I happily get in afterwards. When we had evenings to ourselves when the kids were younger we used to bath together sometimes.
Do you know, occasionally we even have sex? The horror! Just think of the germs exchanged.
