Disgusting things discovered on MN

Pricklypear12 · 24/03/2021 14:34

During my time on MN I have read about some disgusting/unhygienic things that people do on a regular basis.

Examples are:
Letting dogs lick human plates
Washing dog bowls in dishwasher with regular dishes
Sharing bath water (seen this one today!)
Sucking snot out of a baby's nose (I somewhat get it but really think I could never)

What are some vile things you've read about on MN that are seemingly normal to those that post about them?

I should be having a nap before my night shift tonight. Need to change into my work pjs before hand.

getsomehelp · 24/03/2021 15:39

Why did all the supermarkets get a klondike rush on Loo paper at the first lockdown if the norm is wet wipes?
What did people do before wet wipes?
I have never ever been to a house where there are wet wipes provided

Why would you have a dog if not to do the prewash, oh & the drying cycle is steam guys, so 100° !!!

& finally, I went to boarding school, in the junior school, there was a rota for bath night, we got a bath 2 times a week, there were 3 baths for about 50 girls, so several girls queued up.& there was never enough hot water in the tank, we had to wash, including our hair in other peoples dirty water. (we did not shower after sports, ) on other days we had to wash in a row of sinks with cold water... but it was so cold noone did !!!
We had one clean sheet a week & the top sheet went to the bottom...
Our Sports Aertex shirts got washed about about twice a term, ditto sports sox!!!

Chanjer · 24/03/2021 15:39

Is that OK?

I wasn't judging Grin I just knew what it meant!

LindyLou2020 · 24/03/2021 15:40

@vodkaredbullgirl

I try not to let the dogs lick the plates, always goes into hot soapy water and washed straight away.
The dog, or the plates?..............
vodkaredbullgirl · 24/03/2021 15:41

Both if they misbehave lol

jessstan2 · 24/03/2021 15:43

@Pricklypear12

I get that people love their dogs but I honestly could not eat at someone's house knowing their dog has perhaps had a good lick in the past.

Ugh I do NOT pee in the shower, that's another grim one.

You might if you were incontinent, wouldn't be able to stop! I'd never thought of that before because surely most go to the loo before showering; however, incontinence is a different matter.

At least it would wash away down the plug hole in the shower, leaving no trace.

Peachee · 24/03/2021 15:44

No one is perfect unfortunately.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 24/03/2021 15:47

I do nearly all those things, just not the dishwasher because I don't have one. I would if I did. What exactly is it you find disturbing about those things?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 24/03/2021 15:48

I also pee in the shower, EVERY SINGLE TIME.

DragonPoop · 24/03/2021 15:48

One person who NEVER used soap/shower gel when they washed/took a shower - just let the water run over them and considered it job done Hmm

Bananalanacake · 24/03/2021 15:48

BertramLacey,
I would get on well with you, I am also a big believer in wearing things as least 3 times before they go in the wash, (bar knickers), towels are used for a week before they need a wash. I often wonder how some people have enough for 3 loads of washing a day, if I did 3 loads a day which would be all the darks, lightss and underwear/socks, I wouldn't have enough for another full load for a week. All I would have is 4 pairs of pants and DH's Tshirt.

CandyLeBonBon · 24/03/2021 15:48

Putting dinner on a plate straight after a dog has licked it is obviously unhygienic. After it's been through a 70degree dishwasher cycle? Don't be ridiculous

Mowly75 · 24/03/2021 15:48

I have googled both dragon butter and munting. Deep regret.

Soubriquet · 24/03/2021 15:48

You use the same bathwater as your cat?

Yes! Wouldn’t recommend it though. Gets a bit scratchy GrinGrin

HeadNorth · 24/03/2021 15:49

I sometimes wonder how some posters managed to reproduce when they seem so repulsed by bodily functions. We're all just animals you know, we eat, shit, breed, die and bodily emissions are just part and parcel of the wild journey.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 24/03/2021 15:50

Oh I also don't wear any pants ever either.

Soubriquet · 24/03/2021 15:50

@Occitane

Can I just point out that they sell dragon butter in Tesco?
Yeah you wouldn’t want the other type of dragon butter Envy
GappyValley · 24/03/2021 15:51

OP, if you think putting down bowls in the dishwasher is bad...

Last summer, we took DC to see a friend who's dog had recently had a litter.

Later that evening, I heard 'look mummy, I'm a puppy', and turned round to find DS3 in our dog's bed sucking her nipple

She was just lying here with a face like Confused but if you had seen the muddy pond she was swimming in earlier that day, you wouldn't be worried about DC eating off plates that had been in the dishwasher at the same time as her bowl...

ALongHardWinter · 24/03/2021 15:51

People who wear their shoes in the house is bad enough, but when they then put their shoe-clad feet on the coffee table,on the sofa or even on the bed,I'm lost for words. I seem to see this quite a lot in TV soaps.

Soubriquet · 24/03/2021 15:52

That’s hilarious GrinGrin

Ldpuppy · 24/03/2021 15:52

Eww gross!!

CodMouth · 24/03/2021 15:53

That mouse shaped clump of dirty pubes that would fall out of Victorian women’s knickers.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 24/03/2021 15:53

Some people really think it's okay to let their child shit and piss on a potty in public. Or to change a nappy on a restaurant/pub table.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/03/2021 15:54

We are all much too bacteria averse - hence the rise in allergies. I agree. I was just going to say that OP clearly has no understanding of the notion of a muck (in moderation) being good for developing a robust immune system. It's over-zealous cleaning that (and use of strong chemical cleaning products) that leads to allergies, etc.

I share bath water. Always have.

We also don't wash towels after every use. I know horrific right! 😂😂
