Disgusting things discovered on MN

999 replies

Pricklypear12 · 24/03/2021 14:34

During my time on MN I have read about some disgusting/unhygienic things that people do on a regular basis.

Examples are:
Letting dogs lick human plates
Washing dog bowls in dishwasher with regular dishes
Sharing bath water (seen this one today!)
Sucking snot out of a baby's nose (I somewhat get it but really think I could never)

What are some vile things you've read about on MN that are seemingly normal to those that post about them?

Dry Wipe - Urban Dictionary
The act of swiping your credit card between the ass cheeks of a prostitute. Ashley was having fun with candy but when he dry wiped her she got angry and ...

It would appear this is dry wiping! 🤣🤣🤣

fizbosshoes · 25/03/2021 17:54

@poppycat10
Was it Izal?
We had that at school. It smelled awful as well and seemed waterproof which seemed to negate its suitability as toilet paper!Confused

😆

Disgusting. And humiliating.

threatmatrix · 25/03/2021 17:58

All goes down the same drain. Let me see your an advocate of wasting water?

DeusEx · 25/03/2021 17:59

@KisstheTeapot14

I did have this comment travelling in India in more youthful days.

Dry wiping is better for women, I always thought as less chance of any particles going into vagina and causing urine infections? In any case, we have a bath/shower at least once a day for a more thorough wash.

I think the hand held bidet is meant to be better because it prevents anal tears and reduces risk of haemorrhoids. I prefer it because I just feel cleaner afterwards - although how to dry off afterwards perplexes me!
KisstheTeapot14 · 25/03/2021 18:07

I have to say I have never heard of a hand held bidet.

I am not clicking on the links for munting/dragon butter.

I think I am happy without knowing. Sometimes ignorance IS bliss.

Pricklypear12 · 25/03/2021 18:19

This thread seems to have turned into an anal hygiene thread...

Anyone got anything to say about feet washing in the kitchen sink? Or brushing teeth over kitchen sink? (NOT me)

TheKeatingFive · 25/03/2021 18:23

You were warned Grin

pam290358 · 25/03/2021 18:23

For those of you interested, NHS and veterinary sources all agree that it’s a VERY bad idea to let your dog lick your plate. Dogs can carry MRSA, leptospira bacteria and other internal parasites that can be transmitted to humans. They actually DO recommend running pet dishes through the dishwasher, rather than hand washing in the sink as the water is hotter and the cleaning action more thorough, thus killing any bacteria. Use either ceramic or stainless steel dishes, as bugs can collect on plastic ones.

fizbosshoes · 25/03/2021 18:27

I wouldn't have a problem with brushing teeth at the kitchen sink (assuming no one was washing up or getting a drink of water at the same time?)

Does this make me minging? (I imagine I already am in MN world)

waitingpatientlyforspring · 25/03/2021 18:34

@Dilbertian

Amazing, really, that dh and I have lived to the grand old age of 50-blah, our parents are in their 80s and 90s, and we have children from 13-21, and none of us have ever caught an illness from 3-week old bedding, sharing bathwater or a towel, or a pet's dish in the dishwasher with our dinner dishes. Or any of the other appalling habits mentioned on this thread - or any other.

Chill.

Exactly!

Most of you on here would find dh and I disgusting.

In our old house we only had a bath and didn't have a combi boiler so we often shared a bath ie one after the other. There wasn't time to empty, wait for water to reheat and re fill if we both wanted a bath before work.

We share one towel between us for a week.

We often don't wash our bedding in the winter months for 4 weeks.

We all dry wipe.

Our cats bowls go in dishwasher and kitten likes to finish the milk left in bowl after cereal.

I'm sure we do lots more that many of you think is terrible but we are healthy, very, very rarely ill with vomiting or t'other end.

Oh you must be joking. Ewwww.
PMUZOE · 25/03/2021 18:41

Not sure what you are finding disgusting but when you child is bunged up you will do anything as a mother to ease their discomfort.... it’s all about being a caring compassionate mamma

Nearlynotquite · 25/03/2021 18:43

Re sinks/teeth/feet: I tend to think if kitchen is clean and not full of random crap, it's not a big deal to clean anything in the sink, because it's then easy to wash it out and clean it. I wouldn't wash my feet in sink because I'm too short and fat and not very agile. Prefer washing my feet in the shower but I'm not hung up on the hygiene of it. Not sure I'd want a random stinky footed person washing their feet over a pile of pots and pans though

PepsiMaxCherry · 25/03/2021 18:49

Not washing your hands if peeing in your own house, I was really shocked by the amount of people agreeing Confused [puke]

StellaKowalski · 25/03/2021 18:50

Meant munting**

Cosmos45 · 25/03/2021 18:59

@Pricklypear12 you definitely don't want to visit my house.. all pre washes are done by the dog. Grin in fact she makes a better job of the lasagne dish than my dishwasher to be honest..

Harls1969 · 25/03/2021 19:04

Why is peeing in the shower grim? It goes down the drain and is no dirtier than the water you wash your arse with. Then you wash yourself and I always clean the shower after I've used it.
I'm assuming dry wiping is wiping your bum with toilet paper after a poo.
You do know that living in a totally sterile environment and antibac-ing everything to death is not actually that healthy? Your immune system needs a bit of muck

I think you could wash your feet in a bowl, for example if there was something wrong in your bathroom and work being done in there.

If someone lives alone they can do things which they would not do if they shared.

Jayne35 · 25/03/2021 19:10

I do all those things and more. Wear clothes as long as I can (especially during lockdown as I was furloughed - minimal washing and no ironing was bliss). Dog doesn’t sleep on the bed but is allowed weekend mornings for cuddles. Wash towels and bedding weekly, wear shoes indoors and I do pee in the shower.

Sometimes I think toddlers are grubbier than dogs to be honest. It’s refreshing to see most people on this thread are like me without the hygiene madness 😂

Jayne35 · 25/03/2021 19:11

Apart from the snot thing, never done that 😂

maggiethecat · 25/03/2021 19:13

@Wearywithteens

Not rinsing washing up suds Mixing underwear in the laundry with tea towels on low temperatures Letting dogs sleep in the same bed
Do people even wash underwear with tea towels 😱
