Disgusting things discovered on MN

Pricklypear12 · 24/03/2021 14:34

During my time on MN I have read about some disgusting/unhygienic things that people do on a regular basis.

Examples are:
Letting dogs lick human plates
Washing dog bowls in dishwasher with regular dishes
Sharing bath water (seen this one today!)
Sucking snot out of a baby's nose (I somewhat get it but really think I could never)

What are some vile things you've read about on MN that are seemingly normal to those that post about them?

No wonder we have no resistance to illness. For Gods sake you will not die if you dont change your bedding every week or use your towels more than once.

turbonerd · 25/03/2021 19:29

On the snot sucking: I got brilliant advice to use some breast milk in baby’s nose if clogged up. It always worked wonders. I appreciate that is a bit hard if you are not breast feeding when the clogging occurs.

Why would you shower every day if you are not working out/having a sweaty & grimy job? It is not good for your skin on any part of your body. You don’t stink from a normal day pottering around! I had to «wean» my husband from daily showers and voila! His eczema got much better.

Please, I really dont want to Google it; what the hell is munting?
Someone explained dragon butter and that did make me retch slightly, but now I have prepared myself mentally. Just say what it is!

What on earth is the problem with washing underwear with tea towels? I chuck a couple of tea towels in with a regular load of clothes/undies so we always have clean ones. The whole point of the washing machine is to clean stuff surely? So things that go in dirty come out clean. Do people really do a separate load just for tea towels?

ImAlrightThanx · 25/03/2021 19:37

Do people even wash underwear with tea towels 😱

Yes? If it's on a hot wash, whats the big deal?

For those of you interested, NHS and veterinary sources all agree that it’s a VERY bad idea to let your dog lick your plate. Dogs can carry MRSA, leptospira bacteria and other internal parasites that can be transmitted to humans. They actually DO recommend running pet dishes through the dishwasher, rather than hand washing in the sink as the water is hotter and the cleaning action more thorough, thus killing any bacteria. Use either ceramic or stainless steel dishes, as bugs can collect on plastic ones.
So if the dishwasher kills the bacteria surely it’s fine to let dog lick the plate once you’re done with it then put it in the dish washer before you use it again?

I think for anyone making my mistake...the googling of the word munting was far worse than dragon butter! I'm still in shock at the depravity.
I did, and I agree. Made sure was in Private Browser first though 😬

Was it Izal?
We had that at school. It smelled awful as well and seemed waterproof which seemed to negate its suitability as toilet paper!Confused[/quote]
That's it! I couldn't remember the name,

Spidey66 · 25/03/2021 19:49

@TheKeatingFive

I let workmen or delivery drivers use my toilet

People who don’t allow this are total dicks. I never imagined there were so many of them before I came on here.

I know! Especially during lockdown. It's not like they can nip into McDonald's.
Wide · 25/03/2021 20:04

Washing underwear with tea towels is gross and I did see on tv that poo particles can come off and mix with the rest of the washing so that's why I wouldn't wash with tea towels. Some religions use their hand to wipe their bums with no paper

Staffy1 · 25/03/2021 20:05

MN is the first place I heard of mooncups. I know they are popular here, but they sound absolutely disgusting.

thatsgotit · 25/03/2021 20:06

@Harls1969

Why is peeing in the shower grim? It goes down the drain and is no dirtier than the water you wash your arse with. Then you wash yourself and I always clean the shower after I've used it. I'm assuming dry wiping is wiping your bum with toilet paper after a poo. You do know that living in a totally sterile environment and antibac-ing everything to death is not actually that healthy? Your immune system needs a bit of muck
OMG this. That was always the view when I was growing up, and I swear there were fewer allergies etc.
Clymene · 25/03/2021 20:12

I'd rather eat food at a house where everything goes in the dishwasher - whatever it is - than a house where people do horrid washing up by hand. That's disgusting.

I don't give a shiny shit how much other people wash or how often they wash their clothes. It's nothing to do with me unless I'm going to have sex with them

myusernamewastakenbyme · 25/03/2021 20:12

My late cat used to sleep under the duvet with me....and she used to get in with the kids...we all loved it.

So do you wash underwear separately from other clothes or is it just tea towels that need protecting from the evil poo particles. Also do you wash each person’s underwear separately or is it ok to have someone else’s poo particles on your underwear?
Clymene · 25/03/2021 20:14

I wash my dog in the sink though and he sleeps in my bed. I really don't care if you think that's grim - I don't like house guests GrinGrin

Why do you have poo particles in your pants?

I don't fancy them either but am past all that now, Not as bad as period pants which actually smell according to friends and colleagues who have to spend time with anyone who uses them.

If you haven't already, never search for a thread called 'He drank my mooncup water' (or something like that)... Grin
ginandbearit · 25/03/2021 20:24

Instead of wet wipes I spray febreze onto toilet paper for that fresh squeeky clean feeling..a bit of a eye opener sometimes but no wet wipes clogging the system and you have the reassurance that if you were rushed to A&E your bum would be beyond reproach .

LaceyBetty · 25/03/2021 20:27

Or brushing teeth over kitchen sink?

Please someone explain what the problem with this is. Kitchen sinks are by far more bacteria ridden than bathroom sinks.

Also, peeing in the shower is absolutely fine. It immediately runs down the drain together with all the dreaded poo particles, dead skin, pubes etc.

thatsgotit · 25/03/2021 20:30

@CodMouth

That mouse shaped clump of dirty pubes that would fall out of Victorian women’s knickers.
Huh??
WiganNorthWest · 25/03/2021 20:31

Life is just too short to worry about “poo particles”. Actual poo/dirt maybe, but when there’s no trace of poo except at a microscopic level then that’s clean enough for me. Surely underwear will never be “clean” if it comes out of the wash still covered in poo particles and you’d have to bin bin underwear after a single use. Or just forget about the tiny harmless poo particles that are probably on every surface anyway.

LaceyBetty · 25/03/2021 20:33

@WiganNorthWest so many lovely references to poo particles. Grin
