Disgusting things discovered on MN

Pricklypear12 · 24/03/2021 14:34

During my time on MN I have read about some disgusting/unhygienic things that people do on a regular basis.

Examples are:
Letting dogs lick human plates
Washing dog bowls in dishwasher with regular dishes
Sharing bath water (seen this one today!)
Sucking snot out of a baby's nose (I somewhat get it but really think I could never)

What are some vile things you've read about on MN that are seemingly normal to those that post about them?

Dragon butter? Munting? 🤔
You'll regret it!

Using wet wipes on your arse is disgusting if you have even the tiniest regard for the environment

(Usual disclaimer that it’s different if it’s for for medical need)

otterbaby · 24/03/2021 15:05

Do you mean directly sucking the snot out of a child's nose with your mouth? Confused I use a nose frida, so I suck the snot but there's no chance of it going into my mouth.

Mrgrinch · 24/03/2021 15:05

The most shocking for me are the people who wait weeks or even months to change their bedding and the people who use towels multiple times. It's disgusting.

You could wet the tissue first then wipe which is what most people I know do and what I've taught my kids. Eww when thought if dry wiping Envy

isthismylifenow · 24/03/2021 15:08

Ah you lot won't be moving in with me in a hurry then. If my back is turned and the dishwasher door is open, she is in there like a shot. The plates will get a good lick if she times it well. I can't get too upset about it. It's about to get washed at 60 degrees so I doubt a smidgen of dog spit is hardly going to do me damage.

I put the bowls in there. And the bin lid.

They are all clean when they come out. Which is the point isn't it?

Pricklypear12 · 24/03/2021 15:08

By sharing bath water I mean people going in one after the other, not at the same time. I think getting in the bath together to have a fun splash about with young kids or a romantic soak with OH is fine. It's more when the same bath water is used to "clean" several people.

The most disgusting thing I've discovered is the women who read an entire story from a short paragraph judge and make assumptions, then assassinate the op all the while screaming for others to #bekind and we must all stand up for women yet are happy to tear another woman down.

MN is a wonderfully diverse forum with lots of people living under bridges I have seen some of the most awful bitchy behaviour here.

Dilbertian · 24/03/2021 15:10

Amazing, really, that dh and I have lived to the grand old age of 50-blah, our parents are in their 80s and 90s, and we have children from 13-21, and none of us have ever caught an illness from 3-week old bedding, sharing bathwater or a towel, or a pet's dish in the dishwasher with our dinner dishes. Or any of the other appalling habits mentioned on this thread - or any other.

Chill.

eddiemairswife · 24/03/2021 15:10

My toilet paper disintegrates when I wet it.

4Mongrels · 24/03/2021 15:10

What’s wrong with using a towel a few times? You only dry a clean body with it?

Do you honestly wash a towel every time you've used it???

You're clean when you get out of the shower, why would it need a wash straight away?

Pricklypear12 · 24/03/2021 15:11

Re snot sucking, I'm talking about directly without a contraption (if you google it, threads do come up!)
Love my DD but couldn't do with having her snot in my mouth

I don’t do most of these but really intrigued to know what people think happens if they do? I mean, has anyone actually died from washing pants in the same load as kitchen towels? Has anyone died from putting the dog bowl in with the dishes?

MN is collectively obsessed to quite a bizarre level of hygiene.

Not good for anyone’s immune system or the planet to be chucking so much bleach around as people seem to use on here. Huge waste of water to be using washing machines and flushing the toilet for a wee if you could just do it in the shower.

Leafstamp · 24/03/2021 15:11

@TeckanandMultra

I thought this was going to be more along the lines of dragon butter and munting...
Me too!

Sex is discusting (intended), as pointed out by pp, so I don't think you did. Wink
Laytwir024 · 24/03/2021 15:12

This is why other people think Brits are so disgusting!

HideousKinky · 24/03/2021 15:12

I confess I let the cat sleep on my bed (having strenuously asserted when we first got him that this wouldn't be allowed).
My DSis did the snot-sucking thing with her baby and she's a doctor....

@Merename

I haven’t done snot sucking but the idea doesn’t offend me. I think it’s a normal practice for some cultures around the world and to me sounds like tender motherly care. I imagine I do many things that some of you would find disgusting. These threads often fascinate me as to how others think, and how different we all are. I think it’s a shame when they get sneery and feels like playground put down chat rather than a load of adults curious about how others live.
I love you! I hate the vitriol too.

Oh good, another competitive cleanliness thread
