Disgusting things discovered on MN

Pricklypear12 · 24/03/2021 14:34

During my time on MN I have read about some disgusting/unhygienic things that people do on a regular basis.

Examples are:
Letting dogs lick human plates
Washing dog bowls in dishwasher with regular dishes
Sharing bath water (seen this one today!)
Sucking snot out of a baby's nose (I somewhat get it but really think I could never)

What are some vile things you've read about on MN that are seemingly normal to those that post about them?

They’re lying.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 25/03/2021 14:49

Yeah, they're lying. Lots of weirdos on here.

ExConstance · 25/03/2021 14:49

What a load of old nonsense, and terribly bad for the environment. We dry wipe, except for the dog who doesn't wipe at all, too busy licking our plates. Bedding? usually 3 weeks, towels last 3 - 4 days, always dried out after use. Dogs dishes go in the dishwasher and yes, I put tea towels in with mixed clothing. The dogs in our family only sleep in bed with me if they are getting end of life care, as they tend to snore.

We are in our 60's I have not had a day off work with sickness for 15 years, and DH more than that. Our house is pristine, you would never guess how filthy we are.

ReluctantEarlyRiser · 25/03/2021 14:55

Haven't read all the thread but have been doing some big chortles. Thank you @Gobbeldegook for the arsehole sandwich analogy 😂

I'm pretty disgusting according to most of the answers but I could never suck snot from someone elses nose (with my mouth). Gag.

One reason I'm put off from getting a dog is dog bum hole on the furniture. They don't wipe (dry or otherwise) and don't wear dog pants. I don't mind going to other people's dog bum hole houses but would rather avoid it at my own.
@hexagonality

Do you only read the first sentences and ignore the rest? What a useless post, considering what I wrote folowing the first statement, as quoted below, and then my observations about diarrheal diseases.
Well done. Grin

Life expectancy has increased 10 years since 1970. Of course it won't be all due to a decreased rate of infectious diseases, but it will be one factor.
In 1970 only those in their early 20s would gave had the benefit of the NHS and their entire lives. And they wouldn't have had the benefit of vaccination against polio. Childhood polio can lead to death from post polio syndrome in later life - my cousin died at 55. Things like that probably have a far bigger impact than washing pet food bowls or how you wipe your bum.
I've only ever known one family get threadworms and they were complete clean freaks, probably kept the bleach industry going by themselves.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

A whole thread on arse wiping😂😂😂
Not to mention nostril sucking.
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/03/2021 15:00

Reluctantearlyriser, this is what l wonder.

My mum’s dog jumped on ex Dh millions of years ago and got dog shit all over him.

Do people wipe doggy bottoms’?

( love this thread😁)

Fnib · 25/03/2021 15:04

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow I had the book by those 2 women who did the How Clean is Your House (Aggie and Kim) and I distinctly remember one of them saying she wiped her cat's 'twinkle' when she came in!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/03/2021 15:05

‘Twinkle’😂😂😂

ReluctantEarlyRiser · 25/03/2021 15:12

@Fnib that's hilarious. Can't bear the idea if a dog 'lipstick' touching stuff either! And dog paws in the house- doesn't particularly bother me but i assume they're likely to have trodden in some questionable stuff and don't have their paws wet wiped after each walkies?

Must be loads of dog owners on this thread to shed some light 😂

Soubriquet · 25/03/2021 15:12

My old dog used to have allergies and if he came into contact with them, he would have explosive diarrhoea

In which case I would then use a wet wipe on his bum

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 25/03/2021 15:26

Just be thankful if you've never had to empty a dog or cat's anal glands.

Bakedbeanhead · 25/03/2021 15:27

This thread is killing me🤣🤣, just snorting with laughter!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/03/2021 15:31

An anal gland.....🤮😷sounds unimaginable.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 25/03/2021 15:38

Think of thick anal gunge that shoots out of a twinkle at speeds exceeding Mach 3.

Spidey66 · 25/03/2021 15:44

I don't get the judgemental shit that goes on here. My dog often prewashes my plates before they go in the dishwasher (with her bowls as well.) My only concern is whether the leftovers are dog friendly. I let workmen or delivery drivers use my toilet, and dont freak out if they've done a poo in there. I wear my shoes inside. The towels are shared and washed when mucky (after about 3 or 4 uses).

GUESS WHAT GUYS!!! I'M 54 WITH NO MAJOR HEALTH ISSUES. I RARELY EVEN CATCH A COLD. AND IT'S MY BLOODY HOUSE, I'LL DO WHAT I LIKE.

Spidey66 · 25/03/2021 15:46

Oh and said dog shows her total love for us by kissing us. Others see it as licking our faces. I only strongly object when I'm ready for work and she's licked my make up off.

Fnib · 25/03/2021 15:53

I don't like dogs licking my face, otherwise I'm much like you Spidey I don't like them licking me at all tbh. But I'm aware a lot of people do. I think if someone is really houseproud they either wouldn't have dogs, or they'd do a lot of cleaning.
I love dogs and when I've had them they have snuggled with me on the furniture, but I'm now enjoying a cleaner, easier, dog fee life.... For now!

Mumsnet’s worst nightmare

MolyHolyGuacamole · 25/03/2021 16:04

@TeckanandMultra

I thought this was going to be more along the lines of dragon butter and munting...
I googled munting. Why did I google munting.
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/03/2021 16:06

Wigan😁

That’s funny!

FoonySpucker · 25/03/2021 16:09

So essentially then, we are just a nest of wipers (dry or otherwise).

MolyHolyGuacamole · 25/03/2021 16:15

What did people use as an argument before environmental awareness became so prevalent? Were they just honest and said they were cheap/lazy? Wash your damn leggings after use, they've spent the day snug against your fanny

TheKeatingFive · 25/03/2021 16:24

I let workmen or delivery drivers use my toilet

People who don’t allow this are total dicks. I never imagined there were so many of them before I came on here.

Nearlynotquite · 25/03/2021 16:26

@MolyHolyGuacamole it's only the last couple of generations who've washed clothes so frequently, isn't it? My nan had a washboard and mangle, and washing day was Monday. My mum just had a top loading thingy. Certainly no tumble drier. People really did wear clothes for a week or more.
Weren't kids 'sewn into' their vests during the war?
Re the environmental awareness - were making a lot more noise about it whilst our lifestyles are way less eco friendly than they were when I was a child.
