Disgusting things discovered on MN

999 replies

Pricklypear12 · 24/03/2021 14:34

During my time on MN I have read about some disgusting/unhygienic things that people do on a regular basis.

Examples are:
Letting dogs lick human plates
Washing dog bowls in dishwasher with regular dishes
Sharing bath water (seen this one today!)
Sucking snot out of a baby's nose (I somewhat get it but really think I could never)

What are some vile things you've read about on MN that are seemingly normal to those that post about them?

@EasterIsComingagree, my mum never did all that! But we certainly didn't have a dirty home.Some people must have nothing better to do, if they can spend so much time cleaning!
She worked 4 evenings a week, had 4 kids and looked after my granny, she was just someone who kept moving I suppose, different strokes for different folks!

[quote NinePremium]@Lawton there is so much evidence out there showing why daily showering is not good for you. I’m baffled why you find it so repulsive. Here’s just one article outlining the negative impact of daily showering, I’m sure you can read more if you can make time around your personal hygiene habit:

Don't be baffled. Effective personal hygiene is important to me. Other things less so.

With regards to dry wiping, let's say you get a little poo on your hand when you're wiping yourself, would you wipe the poo off your hand with just toilet paper? I'd say most people would use water.

Really makes you wonder if dry wiping is actually effective enough.

Of course it's enough. You aren't about to go pick up a sandwich with your arsehole and put it in your mouth are you? No, you use your hands for that, that's why you use soap and water to clean your hands. You aren't going to use your arse hole to open doors are you? Or clean things? Do you hold your hairbrush with your arse hole? No you don't. You shite out your arsehole, wipe it, tuck it away in your underwear. Shower before bed. No need to scrub your arsehole with soap and water and Dettol and bleach every single time you go to the toilet.

Washing your hands properly after wiping with toilet paper is more than sufficient.

Unless you shit your pants of course.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/03/2021 12:58

Gobbeldegook say it like it is!😂

Eating a sandwich with your arsehole.😂

Gobbeldegook · 25/03/2021 13:08

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow I think I got carried away there 🤣🤣

Fembot123 · 25/03/2021 13:09

Love it 🤣

hexagonality · 25/03/2021 13:11

@Lweji

Yes, I did look at the link you posted, but it didn't seem to show statistically significant figures for the UK, e.g. 0.83 deaths per 100,000 from diarrhoeal diseases in the UK in 2017, 1 death preventable from rotavirus vaccination in England 2016, 90% of 1 yr olds vaccinated against rotavirus 2019.

So, you're still ignoring what I actually wrote and what I pointed out in the link (no mention of vaccines or vaccination). And that I posted that link in contradiction to my previous comment. Grin

I don't think I understand what I'm supposed to have ignored and am confused by all the well done, laugh emojis, etc. I'm autistic so always offending people and not understanding why something's funny, so I guess I'll just apologise, as I'm at work now and can't read through it all again.
AnneOfCleavage · 25/03/2021 13:17

I love the fixation on dry wiping. I'm pretty sure it's come from the thread that was running yesterday on how to properly clean a bathroom. Several hotel based cleaners said they dried the sink, bath, glasses etc with the previous owner's dirty dry towel 🤮🤮

So funny to read other people's perception on dry wiping after using the loo which funnily enough wasn't even in the list the OP gave 😂

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 25/03/2021 13:23

Oh lord these threads.

Put the OP in a room, bet she can't distinguish the dry wipers who share bathwater from anyone else.

Human beings aren't sterile, in fact excessive cleaning is actively bad for us.

ForeverAintEnough12 · 25/03/2021 13:24

@Catwoman123

You could wet the tissue first then wipe which is what most people I know do and what I've taught my kids. Eww when thought if dry wiping Envy
If you need to actively clean faeces off yourself after having a bowel movement you need to look at yours and your children’s diet as this is not normal or indicative of a healthy gut
MullinerSpec · 25/03/2021 13:24

I've done the snout sucking from my 3wk old as using one of those pump was not safe for the little at the time. My wife refused to do it but I had no qualms, and besides my daughter slept well after. Also biting off my babies nails as I felt it was safer, I really did not feel confident using a nail clipper.

Sakura7 · 25/03/2021 13:28

The worst I've seen was a thread where a surprisingly high number of people admitted to not washing their hands after going to the toilet. That is rank.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 25/03/2021 13:29

This. With healthy regular bowel movements there really shouldnt be a lot to actually wipe from your exterior.

Pricklypear12 · 25/03/2021 13:30

What do you all think to someone who washes their feet in the kitchen sink? (NOT me or in my house but I have witnessed it)

That's not particularly helpful advice for people with Crohn's or enduring the side-effects of some medication.

@NoIDontWatchLoveIsland I never even mentioned "dry wiping" in my post???

I think I'd be impressed with their flexibility.
halfathreepence · 25/03/2021 13:48

@Gobbeldegook exactly.

I wonder if the people who think dry wiping is disgusting are also horrified at people not washing their feet multiple times a day. Feet are pretty stinky. But they're usually kept hidden in socks/shoes when out and about, and you don't use them the same way you use your hands. If we all went and sat on public transport seats naked then I'd worry more about dry wiping (and other bodily fluids), but until then...

Pyewackect · 25/03/2021 13:49

Hypocrisy.

WiganNorthWest · 25/03/2021 13:52

I don’t see how wet wiping is more hygienic than dry wiping if you are just using water not soap. Water won’t kill E. coli or other germs any more than dry paper will. You’d have to use soap on your arsehole after every shit to actually kill the bacteria surely. Adding water probably just makes a moist warm environment for more bacteria to grow? And it’s an arsehole,it’s clearly designed to cope with some traces of shit on it-no other animals wipe their bums and they all seem fine.

ForeverAintEnough12 · 25/03/2021 13:58

@EmbarrassingAdmissions obviously people with medical conditions that affect the bowel don’t have normal bowel movements... so this wouldn’t apply to them. Otherwise you shouldn’t need to wash yourself after a bowel movement.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/03/2021 14:36

A whole thread on arse wiping😂😂😂

fizbosshoes · 25/03/2021 14:38

Put the OP in a room, bet she can't distinguish the dry wipers who share bathwater from anyone else.

Youd be surprised at the sensitivity of some MN noses!
I've been on threads where people can tell from the other side of the room
When you last showered
If you had a wash instead of a shower
If you're wearing scented panty liners etc
