To wear this for an interview?

It's for a clinical position on a children's ward. I've not interviewed in person for a long time!! Is this professional enough?

It’s a gorgeous dress - and in my industry would be fine.

AudTheDeepMinded · 23/03/2021 19:21

I wouldn't, I think it's smart but not really professional enough looking for an interview. You want to give the impression you are capable and sensible not hopping off to a garden party (but it's a really nice dress so buy it anyway)

Motnight · 23/03/2021 19:22

It's lovely Op! Good luck with the interview

Fairyliz · 23/03/2021 19:23

It doesn’t actually matter what we think, it’s what the interviewers think.
Whilst many wouldn’t have an opinion I think some would think it not professional enough.
So it’s a no from me.

GreyhoundG1rl · 23/03/2021 19:23

I wouldn't.

GreyhoundG1rl · 23/03/2021 19:24

I'd actually take note of your style. It would make me think you were confident in your style therefore in yourself.
Confused

Christmasfairy2020 · 23/03/2021 19:25

Blouse and pencil skirt and tights

SteppinOutwithMyBaby · 23/03/2021 19:28

I have no idea if it's suitable or not for an interview, but my word it's a gorgeous dress.

CoconutQueen · 23/03/2021 19:28

This is a party dress.

Good luck with the interview though!

LemonRoses · 23/03/2021 19:29

We have a very formal dress code but I think it’s lovely and would remember the person who was wearing it.

The panel should be judging your competence not your ability to conform to norms. I think standing out from the crowd is a good thing. Not in inappropriate revealing clothing but that isn’t. It’s a nice frock.

Motorina · 23/03/2021 19:29

I interview for NHS clinical roles. As has been said earlier, everything is done on standardised questions and scores so, unless you turn up filthy or indecent you would be fine.

I've literally interviewed people in everything from scrubs (just come off shift), to formal business suit, and everyone in between. The only one who raised an eyebrow came in jeans, a very sloppy tshirt, and chewed gum all the way through.

This dress would be fine. My only query is how much cleavage/shoulder it shows but, other than that, it's fine.

What does everyone think of this one? Similar style but plain black (nice jacquard fabric though) - this would need a cardigan or a jacket (it comes with a nice one) but it looks very smart and interview appropriate to me. Obviously you’d want to avoid adding OTT 50s style hair, makeup and shoes. The skirt is full but hangs straight on the model. I like the sunflower one better though.

LemonRoses · 23/03/2021 19:29

My daughter is a GP and wears similar dresses outside of the pandemic.

lljkk · 23/03/2021 19:30

If it suits your personality (bold, confident) then it's the right thing to wear.

Violinist64 · 23/03/2021 19:30

It is a lovely dress but it looks like one you would wear at a wedding or garden party rather than for an interview. I think, as others have said, you need a plain dress and dark jacket or a dark skirt and white blouse with a dark jacket.

KoalaLlama · 23/03/2021 19:31

It’s beautiful but I wouldn’t consider it interview appropriate. The pattern is too bold and the cut of the skirt too full and swishy. I would go for something in a plainer pattern and a less whimsical shape if it were me.

Rover83 · 23/03/2021 19:31

I have interviewed an almost qualified student nuese in hot pants and a crop top before. NHS interviews are all points based, I wouldnt think twice if you came wearing this, although I may ask where it had come from!!

starfish4 · 23/03/2021 19:33

It's a lovely dress. If you feel it's right for you, you could tone down the dressiness with a black cardigan. Either way, make sure it's something you feel comfortable in.

Peachypips78 · 23/03/2021 19:35

Manager in a mental health trust here. I have to say I might raise my eyebrows a bit if someone came into interview in a dress like that! It's beautiful but I would wear something conservative for interview to be safe.

HoldontoOneMoreDay · 23/03/2021 19:35

It's the shape rather than the print I think. Can you take the underskirts out?

eatsleepread · 23/03/2021 19:36

I wouldn't, sorry.
Good luck though!

ArabellaScott · 23/03/2021 19:36

It's very pretty but not suitable for an interview, no.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 23/03/2021 19:37

It’s absolutely fine. Good luck with interview.

Nohomemadecandles · 23/03/2021 19:40

@Fairyliz

This- it's divided opinion on here from people within the NHS. If there's any chance your outfit could be the reason you don't get a job, don't risk it. It shouldn't matter to sensible, 2021 human beings but sadly every profession is littered with plonkers . It's not right but it's fact!
WombatChocolate · 23/03/2021 19:40

I think it’s fine, especially with a black cardigan or probably jacket.

It is smart, and with a jacket or possibly cardigan is fine. This is not a city job and doesn’t require a suit or black/navy plain items.

Yes, check it doesn’t reveal cleavage or shoulders. Wear tight and shoes that make it a bit formal. Have a suitable handbag.

I think it looks good.

As others say, your answers count, but in an interview such as this, the dress can be smart with the right accessories and if you like it and feel confident and professional in it, it’s more than fine.

There are a number of outfits that can look really smart. Different size and shapes of people wear outfits differently and few jobs can only tolerate the standard suit for an interview these days. As long as you are smart, look like you’re professional, then that’s the main thing. A little bit of personality or colour or pattern is not a detriment. And colour or pattern can always be toned down or up by the rest of the outfit.

I think it could be perfect. Wear it and be confident and yourself and professional.I hope you get the job.
