To wear this for an interview?

It's for a clinical position on a children's ward. I've not interviewed in person for a long time!! Is this professional enough?

To wear this for an interview?

It's nice but I think it's too informal for most interviews. It's pretty standard for interviews to expect business formal even if the job itself doesn't require it.

Majority on this thread haven’t a scoobie
If op has current registration, answers well, appears competent..she’ll get appointed
There's a national shortage of staff, there’s not a surplus of candidates
Often posts go to 2,3 adverts as there are no suitable candidates

Frankly the dress isn’t an issue

Suzi888 · 23/03/2021 20:18

How about the jet black version....

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 23/03/2021 20:19

Explain the difference between conscious and unconscious bias @Iamthewombat
You fundamentally misunderstand, and that’s evident in your example

yellowlorry123 · 23/03/2021 20:21

No: it's a party dress. Wear something appropriate for a business meeting

SarahBellam · 23/03/2021 20:21

If you rock it and feel great in it, it TOTALLY TOTALLY wear it and feel confident and happy that you look great. It’s gorgeous and a million times better than some boring old grey George at Asda shift dress. You’re going to be working with children. Surely they want someone with a bright and sunny attitude and this dress says that you have!

IrishMamaMia · 23/03/2021 20:22

I love it too but seems too fun for an interview somehow. I have some similar printed dresses but generally tend to go for quite plain and neutral when interviewing. Good luck!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/03/2021 20:23

It’s a super dress, but I would save it for a party, or if it’s your day to day style, for when you have the job. I’d always wear something pretty “safe” to an interview, with one more striking thing, eg plain outfit with a brightly coloured bag, or an eye-catching brooch on your coat.

Hope the interview goes well!

I would work it up with black tights and a blazer.

silverbubbles · 23/03/2021 20:27

too OTT for an interview unless it was some kind of fashion / creative role.

Viviennemary · 23/03/2021 20:28

It would be ridiculous. It's a party frock.

RosesAndHellebores · 23/03/2021 20:28

One was in a bobbly jumper, dirty shoes, greasy hair; another was very very loud: deck shoes, yellow anorak and dangly earrings I'd never have dared wear near grabby 9 month old ds. Neither as glam as the op is intending. Oh I also recall the camhs nurse in wedgy High heels, spaghetti straps and chewing gum.

OP I interview public sector but despite all the equality training in the world it only takes one panel member to bring preconceived ideas to the table and the marking. Do remember that regardless of training we fallible humans take our impressions and imprint them based on the first 10 to 20 seconds.

I like it because it makes you look distinctive, characterful and appealing. Bright colours. Good for kids. Kids will love you. And that's a big part of what this job is about. (ok you'll be covered up on the ward but it shows your energy at interview)

harknesswitch · 23/03/2021 20:30

It's gorgeous but I wouldn't wear it for an interview. I'd not, not employ someone who arrived at an interview with me, but it doesn't come across as very 'professional' however I'm in IT, so your sector might view things differently

GreyhoundG1rl · 23/03/2021 20:32

Kids will love you, even though you won't be wearing it on the wards... Great logic there 😂
youremyperson · 23/03/2021 20:33

I don't have purple hair I promise 😂 The dress is a lot 'flatter' in person it doesn't have a net and you can wear it with a petticoat but I won't. I have a navy cardigan and navy tights with a black waist belt. I'll try on a few more outfits but I keep coming back to this one. I won't be wearing my own clothes doing my job and it would make my life easier if I could just rock up in scrubs!!

Pretty dress for a garden party. You might come off a bit eccentric wearing it to an interview.

youremyperson · 23/03/2021 20:36

@Babyiskickingmyribs the actual cut of the sunflower dress is the same as that one. I wouldn't wear it with an underskirt so it is quite 'flat'

GoLightlyontheEarth · 23/03/2021 20:38

It’s a lovely dress but not appropriate for an interview. Is wear much plainer clothes . You don’t want them looking at the dress and not at you. The pattern is too loud and it’s more for a formal occasion .

m0therofdragons · 23/03/2021 20:40

I love it but my most of my wedding dresses (not bridal obviously) become work wear so that’s kind of my style - in nhs management. That dress is lovely!

nosyupnorth · 23/03/2021 20:50

so many people in this thread suggesting a woman can't be feminine/show personality and be employable. how incredibly depressing.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 23/03/2021 20:52

Indeed. Almost as if they think Any flair or individuality is something to be quashed

youremyperson · 23/03/2021 20:52

@nosyupnorth it is a bit isn't it? I'll have a think this thread has been fun I'll keep you updated Smile

Beautiful dress for another occasion but for an interview? Doesn’t look professional IMO.
