How's your hair looking?

If I don't laugh at myself I'll probably cry.

I had my hair done in October 2019 with the idea of getting it done again in early spring 2020 ready for the summer, well that didn't plan out obviously and now another 12 months have passed and I look like Brian May.
Anti-frizz serum is useless at this point.

Tell me I'm not the only person who looks ridiculous.

I’ve grown my hair so it’s easier to manage between cuts but then it started falling out due to minor case of alopecia areata which GP reckons is down to chronic stress PLUS it turns out my iron reserves are very low so I’m now addressing that and keeping my fingers crossed it starts resolving itself. I do look like Crystal Tipps which usually would be the worst look for me - I used to straighten my hair every day - but now I’m just thankful there’s still enough of it to do this. Thank God it’s not all fallen out.
Have started using Shea Moisture at recommendation of my daughter and remaining hair is definitely looking a less frizzy version of Crystal Tipps whilst still keeping the curls. I don’t think I’m Shea’s target customer - I have blonde, fine hair - but it’s lovely stuff.
I think a lot of women are looking much better with slightly longer hair - most of my friends are going longer and most of us are also embracing the grey! It’ll be interesting to see if this lasts or whether we all revert back to colour once life becomes more normal.
It sounds vain but hair does make such a difference to the way we feel about ourselves. It’s not ridiculous to be feeling very fed up when your hair isn’t looking right. Hope you can get yours under control soon!

Some advice. Throw out your scissors! My hair is naturally red and fine but my bob was looking so shaggy and way too thick around my face, I stupidly thought it would be a good idea to cut in a few layers. After I'd done one side it looked so terrible that I daren't do the other. When my hairdresser sees it she's going to die laughing and then have to cut it quite short to make it look decent. HOW COULD I HAVE BEEN SO STUPID?

keeptheaspidistra · 23/03/2021 18:02

My hair resembles a cottonwool/sandpaper hybrid.
Usually get my hair done every six weeks. I'm no longer bothered about the roots, apart from a summer reprieve, they've been there for the best part of a year now and I'm not sure I'd recognise myself without them at this point. But the split ends.... I noticed the other day that my split ends have their own split ends!

Ellpellwood · 23/03/2021 18:02

Not awful as I had an extra 3 inches off in September, taking my curly hair above my shoulders. It's now very, very triangular though, and fluffy. A bit like season 1 Carrie from Sex and the City.

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 23/03/2021 18:04

Mine is beyond awful. I've just spent 70 quid on kerastese hair products to try and sort out some of the frizz halo I have going on. I'm 8kg over weight so spent my birthday money on products rather than clothes!

Tiktokersmiracle · 23/03/2021 18:06

I started growing mine in January last year as my SIL to be said to (she's a hairdresser) so I could have the style of hair I wanted for my June wedding. I also wanted to get rid of my very red (think Diane off Strictly) hair and be my more natural brown, but I'm greying so she said start dying over it now.

Now here we are, still not married, hair is past my shoulders, it regularly tries to strangle me in the night.
I had to leave the dye since November because my hair was looking awful, so I have roots which I'm using that touch up spray on.
It's really thick and shiny now though but I really need a cut.
But suffice to say I'll have lovely curls in it if we actually manage to have the wedding this June instead

lucie82 · 23/03/2021 18:09

Mine looks good actually, I decided to go blonde, unfortunately I was red before so it went a bit orange, four lots of bleach, a purple and a silver later it looks great! (Over the space of 6 weeks) it could do with a trim but I'm awful for going to the hairdressers it's usually once a year if I can be bothered

LisaD76 · 23/03/2021 18:11

My curly hair hasn’t seen scissors since July as my autumn appointment got cancelled as my OH had coronavirus... I have started to use banana butter leave in conditioner on the ends as it was a bloody mess... can’t wait for a good cut

Noauthorityhere · 23/03/2021 18:11

Mine is a disaster. 3 months post partum so its falling out, stupidly fine, limp and way too long. I'm sick of it, truly sick of it. I think it looks awful and contributes to me looking and feeling awful whenever I go out. And my lovely hairdresser moved to a salon about an hour away from me last summer so I either have to do a 2 hour round trip with a BF baby, or brave a new more local hairdresser (that's up there with going to the dentist and smear tests for me).

WeeWillyWanky · 23/03/2021 18:15

I usually have short fuss free greying hair. Boring but neat. I now have side wings which won't stay down and I'd forgotten how curly my hair was at the back when allowed to grow. I also have strange wisps that keep sticking up.

Pumperthepumper · 23/03/2021 18:17

Mine is so atrocious, six months ago I had a platinum blonde pixie cut. Now I’ve got a mullet. I thought I’d appreciate the chance to let it grow a bit but it looks so shit I could actually cry.

QuornSausagesAreTheDevilsPenis · 23/03/2021 18:18

Fine. Haven't been to a hairdresser in years though. Trim and dye it myself.

jules0607 · 23/03/2021 18:20

In fantastic condition (better than pre lockdown) especially considering my doing diy balayage too many times - sadly yellow, white & grey/lilac ends now & ridiculously long & got to go into the office soon . Condition based on leaving conditioner on for 2 days solid once a fortnight after yet another balayage failure

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/03/2021 18:23

Now here we are, still not married, hair is past my shoulders, it regularly tries to strangle me in the night.

I now sleep with mine in a pony tail as it drives me mad otherwise

bethtwinmum · 23/03/2021 18:26

I had a pixie cut Feb 2020, I got to the hairdressers once in the summer and I know have a shoulder length Bob! I looking totally different!!

Thirtyrock39 · 23/03/2021 18:27

I've been doing the unicorn haircut and might try a proper wet hair trim at the weekend. Have been quite pleased with box dye though

FredtheCatsMum · 23/03/2021 18:28

Had my last haircut on 1 March 2020, and next one booked for 14 April this year.

Its very long, doesn't look too bad but the ends are getting pretty awful. Glad I can put it up.

I stopped getting my colour done at the hairdressers a few years back, and very grateful for that. £5 of Clairol stuff gets rid of the greys for about 6 weeks.

RaspberryCoulis · 23/03/2021 18:29

Had an illegal cut and colour 10 days ago. Don't feel guilty in the slightest.

user1472151176 · 23/03/2021 18:32

I shaved my head a year ago and havent seen a hair dresser since. So... its not looking great lol.

caspersmagicaljourney · 23/03/2021 18:34

@Cherryvalentine

I agree I think it's outrageous that personal care has been taken away. I'm sure I'll get flamed because ' it's a pandemic' and how dare I care about something as trivial as my hair, but i think it's so wrong.
Totally agree and can't understand the logic behind it. It's certainly not a trivial matter. I feel desperately sorry for the business owners too. After this length of time I wonder how many of these businesses will be left standing.
80sMum · 23/03/2021 18:36

I gave mine another cut this morning! Decided it couldn't wait any longer, so I just chopped off a couple of inches and also reinstated the fringe.

I haven't been to a hairdresser since October 2019! I used to spend about £150 each visit, having it highlighted, cut and blow dried. I've got used to the 'natural look' now!

HappydaysArehere · 23/03/2021 18:39

I bet you are all young and lovely so can get away with long hair. Spare a.thought for someone who has long ago lost those looks. My hair is supposed to have a feathery cut on sides which leads to the same length all around. My shortest feathery bit is now down to my chin and everything else looks heavy. My one consolation is for some very strange reason (I’m 79 and nearing 80) I haven’t gone gray so don’t have to worry about that. Other than that it’s not a good look.

JaninaDuszejko · 23/03/2021 18:41

Another one with a pixie at the beginning of 2020 who has a bob now. My hair is actually better now but mainly because I realised it was the products in the hairdresser I was reacting to so over the summer I asked them to use their sensitive shampoo and not use product and my scalp stayed calm. Phew! I'm needing a cut now but it's not too bad and I'm far more excited about the pool reopening.

SpnBaby1967 · 23/03/2021 18:48

Grey! My hair is too long. The top of it looks limp and lanky, from my ears down its fuzzy and wavy with split ends. I'm also losing A LOT of it whenever I wash or brush it so avoiding doing that too much.

I'm booked in for April though & I cant bloody wait!

ilovechocolate07 · 23/03/2021 19:14

I put my last hair dye on last Feb and have had it cut twice since then and loving that I'm not trying to fight roots.
