To be disappointed that my favourite radio presenter does not look how he sounds

I have recently found a radio presenter that i love listening to. His voice is like catnip to me and he makes me giggle while i am doing my daily work. I listen to all his shows now. I decided today, to follow him on Twitter and saw his picture.

He is not what i imagined him to be. Based on his voice i had an image in my mind of what he looked like. I am slightly and mildly disappointed. AIBU to be so bothered by this?

I knew Eddie was gay. Doesn’t put me off him.

I also adore Nigel Slater. I would love to go to his house for the weekend and have him look after me. We will spend the mornings at the market or foraging for mushrooms then spend the afternoons pottering in the garden. He will cook a simple but amazing dinner then we will sit in comfortable silence, reading by the fire whilst drinking port. No idea what his husband or mine will do when all this is going on.

... in saying that i would have given anything to have had a raucous night out with Freddie Mercury and attended one of his parties!

Zeb Soanes.

So disappointing. Even though he's not bad looking, he just doesn't match his voice.

Steve Allen said on LBC that Max Clifford couldn't possibly have abused anybody, he just wanted to help these young, vulnerable girls. And then snorted and giggled through a thing straight after saying that with Julia Hartley Brewer about how fat and ugly various women were.

Just looked up Zeb Soanes - he’s rather lovely looking but not at all what his voice looks like!

Neil Nunes (he of the most amazing deeper-than-the-pacific-trench voice) is not the slightest bit like I imagined. I am completely unable to recognise accents until they are pointed out so I didn’t realise he had a Caribbean accent, so I didn’t twig he was Black. And he’s younger than me! In my head he was a rather old, broad shouldered white man!

I know his voice is a bit marmite but I think it’s incredible.

I love Neil Nunes’ voice but it’s an accent I always associate with much older men. He sounds to me like he’s at least sixty.

I had this with Bob Flowerdew (Gardeners question time on R4). He has a beautifully silky, melifluous voice. I pictured a man that resembled Hugh Bonneville, only with glasses (my mental image was very specific). Then I googled him and he was...quite different to how I'd expected.

I'm laughing at the thought of anyone finding Steve Wright's voice attractive then being disappointed with what he looks like. He has always sounded exactly as he looks, a numpty.

I have just had a glass and a half ( large ) of Pinot and now think its a great idea to set my alarm for 4am tomorrow and summon all my resources, to call into my radio crush's show tomorrow.

Never called a radio station before in my life. Hoping he has a phone in , that i feel qualified to contribute to. I think i should turn my alarm off. I am going to make a fool of myself aren't i?

I opened this thread as I was sure it was going to be about Shaun Keaveny! I love listening to him on the radio and was convinced he looked like Vernon Kay until I saw his picture.

I miss Eddie Mair on pm 🙁

Yes he was "off" for about 3 weeks the other presenters made references to him being unwell but there was the news in the background about a comment he made about MM

He comes out with the most amazing opionated shite , most of which I think in your opinon cuntychops

But some comment he made about being ok to pull over and sleep on the hardshoulder of a motorway (which he was corrected on but gave the texter a mouthful)
And the claptrap about all the dogs in rescue just looking for some love . Oh yes , some of the dogs with behavioural problems , maybe an experienced , understanding owner with time and effort ....no just a but if ove Hmm

And the way he says 8-4-8-5-ohhhhh It is Zero .
Oh is a letter . Zero is a number . He is such pedantic dick he should know that .

I felt like this about Eddie Mair. He sounds tall, dark and handsome but he looks.... less so. He’s great though. Also @SheikahSlate take it back about James O’Brien. I love him!

@Arrow i do not know how he is allowed to get away with his vitriol. When i have the misfortune to wake after 4am , before i can get to my google dot and get a podcast on, i am greeted with him yapping on about scampi and how he steams the flat sheet on his bed when he awakes. I also don't care how many pairs of pants and socks he buys each week. I have no interest in hot cross buns or tins of fizzy water. I imagine M&S Kingston staff dread him turning up! He buys all their pants and socks and depletes their stock. Who even does that?

He must be of pensionable /retirement/out the revolving radio door age now surely?

I remember him once saying he finished his show and then went somewhere near the studios , for his breakfast. He spent the next days entire show saying how he had counted the no of baked beans, in his beans in his breakfast. Who cares!

I love hearing about some presenters lives in particular (😉) , but not his.

My mum has been listening to SA on the radio since she used to dress me on a stool in the kitchen for sch when i was a child. I am 49 now!!! Enough already!

I just listened to a couple of recorded pieces from SA ( I know , I should make better use of my time Blush )

One a Hilarious Chinese Food story . It wasn't . It involved Chinese food but not in the least bit funny
And one about him blethering on about Customer Service (or lack of) in a high street shop that was offensive to the staff and other customers and showed him up to be the vinctictive and mis-informed little oik tht he is .

He always whitters on about the amount of food that goes in his face ( the "Hilarious Chinese" Meal one certainly did .
