To be disappointed that my favourite radio presenter does not look how he sounds

I have recently found a radio presenter that i love listening to. His voice is like catnip to me and he makes me giggle while i am doing my daily work. I listen to all his shows now. I decided today, to follow him on Twitter and saw his picture.

He is not what i imagined him to be. Based on his voice i had an image in my mind of what he looked like. I am slightly and mildly disappointed. AIBU to be so bothered by this?

I have been cheating on Eddie Mair this week with my first love Simon Mayo. But I think I am just too old for music radio now. Back to Eddie it is.

I have to turn r2 off when liza tarbuck is on. Her voice is fucking awful and the way she talks and emphasises words makes me want to scream

@Belinda i heard Simon Mayo was back on air. I too was tempted to cheat but so far resisted the urge.

Richie ‘travel reporter’ on R2 breakfast / Ken bruce show has a very different look to what I was expecting!

Will give Tim Harford a listen this morning, just found some of his podcasts. I have already looked up his pic, he's nice. Be interested to see how he sounds.

I feel this way about all of the presenters (faces vs. voices, I listen to at least 4 hrs radio/day). Don't share the Eddie Mair love, though. He's ok, but not all that. Don't look up The Archers character actors ; almost no one matches expectation.

I think if I had to plump for my fave "voices" to listen to right now I might choose Evan Davis & Mishal Husain. wrt sharp interviewers, can't beat Nish Kumar & probably Emma Barnett.

I’ve come to terms with it and still adore him. I do radio interviews quite a lot in the course of my job and it’s my dream to be interviewed by Eddie. I keep getting Sheila F instead.

I did not know Eddie was gay. I picture him as married and Sean Connery like. Its strange how we "connect" with these presenters through their voices.

I must admit i will be secretly gutted when IP gets a girlfriend! Ridiculous how giddy he makes me. I will probably switch him off then as the dream has been shattered .... will transfer my affections to Iain Dale where they will be appreciated.

Check out Jonathan Vernon Smith (JVS) on BBC 3 Counties Radio. Sounds like an upper class middle aged boring old fart. He is so NOT!

I had this with Tom Ferry on Radio Scotland, his voice was lovely.

Not that I'm saying he isn't lovely, but first time I saw him he didn't look anything like he sounded.

I miss that late night radio show, everyone I knew listened to him, as well as everyone else in Scotland!

I think the radio stations should use avatars on their schedules. That way we are left with their voices and our own imaginations. Or E-fits , they never look accurate either.

I had this with my radio crush. I emailed him to tell him I thought he was lovely and he replied saying thanks just don’t look at my picture!

Also reminds me of the time I phoned a removal company to book them in, bloke on the phone sounded like Rab C Nesbitt, same bloke turned up on moving day, still sounded like Rab C Nesbitt but looked like Leonardo diCaprio!

Just heard a trailer for Eddie Mair. He'd lick himself if he were made of ice cream. I really do not get the Eddie voice vibes at all. As soon as 4pm strikes, i am off over to LBC News!

Totally. I think this thread has shown me that after lockdown ends i am now ready for dating again. I will not be so dismissive of interest or attention or as picky as i have been.

I will approach dating differently now and actually really listen to men and not be so hung up on instant physical attraction. I will look to find my real world IP and say farewell to my virtual IP.
