To be disappointed that my favourite radio presenter does not look how he sounds

I have recently found a radio presenter that i love listening to. His voice is like catnip to me and he makes me giggle while i am doing my daily work. I listen to all his shows now. I decided today, to follow him on Twitter and saw his picture.

He is not what i imagined him to be. Based on his voice i had an image in my mind of what he looked like. I am slightly and mildly disappointed. AIBU to be so bothered by this?

Ian Payne lives close to me. I think he's better on the radio than he was on TV.

I used to speak on the phone a lot to a male colleague in one of our other offices. His voice made him sound tall, dark, handsome and sexy .... I was stunned when I met him and he looked like Les Dawson Shock
Oh my god this is exactly what happened to me years ago! We had to speak fairly regularly as he would phone to talk to my boss and had to get through my phone extension first or he would give me a message to pass on if boss was out. He had a gravelly voice and sounded so macho. The brief little chats got not exactly flirty but definitely more friendly. One morning he turned up at the office to see the boss and I got such a shock. It sounds bad to say it but I was very disappointed. He asked me out too. I politely declined.

Ian Payne does have a nice voice, sounds like a bloke down the pub sort.

Eddie Mair also has a lovely voice, but I think he's quite 'wooden' doesn't flow.

J O'B is arrogant and condescending one minute, then Mr Empathy the next, he confuses meConfused

Love Nick Ferrari, such a snob, but he takes the mickey out of himself, and I like that.

I do love Nick Abbot, he is hilarious, such dry wit and dripping sarcasm!

Tom Swarbrick is a bit dull, he's a nice bloke, but I think he needs experience.

Majid nawaze has to be turned off immediately, way too 'in your face' for me..

Like Matt Frei's voice..and Andrew Castle isn't bad either..

The others are too dull to mention

Most of them only have faces for radio if you ask meSad

I've never heard of Ian Payne so just looked him up and I think he has a kind face, no idea at all what he sounds like or comes across as on the radio but he looks OK.

My DH is a radio presenter and I "met" him when I phoned his show.

We arranged a place to meet to go on our first date and I didn't think it was him when he turned up, because he has a "tall" voice and he is not!
😂

Also have since met a lot of radio presenters and none of them look how they sound

@lother god yes.Maajid is way too shouty! He gets switched off straight away here too!

@toomany what a lovely way to meet someone. I have been single for 3 yrs now, through choice, maybe i might call into his show 😊. I would probably get through,then go all weak at the knees at his voice and make a total twonk out of myself!

She was ok on 5 live before Covid but the endless fear mongering about Covid put me off snd I don’t listen her any more.

Shelagh Fogerty wound need up with her strict adherence to every single rule and her non stop preaching and berating of guests yet when it came to something that mattered to her like the virgil recently she said had she been in London she would have attended. She is one of those 'the rules only apply to me if they don't affect me' types. Very annoying.

My uncle used to be on a local radio station and used to have people coming up and saying "Are you really xxxx?"
He said he felt like saying "could you say that again without the disappointment in your voice please,"
He apparently sounded much younger than he looked.

I opened this thread as I was sure it was going to be about Shaun Keaveny! I love listening to him on the radio and was convinced he looked like Vernon Kay until I saw his picture.

I miss Eddie Mair on pm 🙁

Eddie Mair seems popular on this thread. His show clashes with Ian Paynes ,on LBC news , so i always switch over at 4 pm and swerve Eddie.

I really had hoped we had heard the last of Steve Allen after his MM comments. Ruth Davidson show is awful. The whole station could do with a shake up imo and a few of them shown the door!

I can’t bear the Ruth Davidson show, it’s always billed as a prime gig but never heard an interesting one yet, she is so wooden and doesn’t push the interviewee for anything interesting.
