To ask what you eat for lunch

I need some inspiration as I eat the same boring sandwiches every day and always fill up on crisps, biscuits and chocolate alongside it which is making me pile on the pounds. Any ideas welcomed Smile

I'm on a fitness plan just now so eat chicken, rice and green beans seasoned with salt, pepper and oregano. It's lovely and fills me up. High in protein too which I need to eat...

Dollywilde · 17/03/2021 13:13

Twice a week I’ll have a can of baked beans with some grated cheese on top, twice a week I’ll have a salad with salmon or chicken, and once a week DH or I will get something a bit more treat-y and bought in - like a sandwich from a sandwich shop, sushi from Waitrose etc.

Meruem · 17/03/2021 13:14

I kind of have to agree with @happymummy12345
Ok, a bowl of soup or something is one thing but if I had a filling cooked lunch like some of those mentioned, no way could I then go on to eat a full cooked dinner. I used to give my DCs lunch when they were kids (obviously!) but as adults they’re the same and rarely bother with much in the way of lunch. But then we do all eat a proper cooked dinner most nights.

TheGlitterFairy · 17/03/2021 13:15

@BigSandyBalls2015 it certainly breaks the monotony of having to think about what to make for lunch in addition to dinner all the time!! We figured for the last year, we'd have been working in an office and for the most part getting a take out lunch so once a week seemed a good idea while wfh!

Ellieboolou33 · 17/03/2021 13:16

Usually nothing as wfh at the minute so have a late breakfast around 11ish

If at work it's either pasta, soup or sandwich

I have dinner with kids between 5-6 then something like crackers & cheese around 8pm

LondonTTC · 17/03/2021 13:17

Almost always something on toast. Hummus and kimchi are a favourite.

TheMethodicalMeerkat · 17/03/2021 13:23

@Meruem I don’t think posters are suggesting big cooked meals for lunch and dinner, in fact some have specifically said their main meal of the day is at lunchtime. Happymummys post suggests eating three meals or even three times a day is too much which imo suggests food issues tbh.

FelicityCentre · 17/03/2021 13:25

@VictoriaLudorum Lunch is my main meal.
Today it was mushrooms a la bourgignonne, wilted spinach and potato gratin (all home-made from fresh).

so are we all piling round to Victoria's tomorrow for lunch?

misslomi · 17/03/2021 13:26

Working from home so try and take advantage and have something warm! Sometimes I have leftovers but mostly its one of the below:

Mushrooms and cheese on toast
Cheese and tomato omelette with toast
Soup and a cheese toastie
Jacket potato with cheese and salad
Bagel with philly and chopped veg
Pasta with roasted veg and parmesan

Still like a sandwich but if I have a sandwich I want crisps too! In the summer I'll have chicken Caesar salad with croutons most of the time.

RuggerHug · 17/03/2021 13:33

Fucking salad. Low carbing and it's miserable but I need to get the weight off.SadEnvy

VictoriaLudorum · 17/03/2021 13:36

You are very welcome, but getting to my place might be somewhat challenging as it would involve international travel.
Perhaps I should take a photo next time?

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 17/03/2021 13:38

Another vote for homemade soup here.

Also been having quite a lot of omelettes/frittatas.

Letsrunabath · 17/03/2021 13:41

wFH. Leftovers, yesterday I had thinly sliced duck breast, salad with an orange dressing yum.
Today soup as no leftovers, don’t eat breakfast so always look forward to lunch don’t miss lunch on the hoof at work.

KittoKatto · 17/03/2021 13:41

I've been doing Fast800 so lunch these days is usually:
Soup
Poached eggs with mushrooms and spinach
Chicken salad
Omelette

I miss:
Cheese toasties
Leftover pizza
Bacon sandwiches
Chicken salad wrap
Pate on toast

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/03/2021 13:41

Soup, things on toast (beans, scrambled or poached eggs, spaghetti hoops) or leftovers. Today we didn’t have breakfast and had a sausage and egg sandwich!

MaryMashedThem · 17/03/2021 13:42

Gross, you're such a glutton. I don't see how people can stand the smell of food. I don't even keep the stuff in the house, just look at some pictures in a book and I'm good to go.

MaryMashedThem · 17/03/2021 13:43

Quote fail! Blush
That was to @BabyBooDueNov21

Tinydinosaur · 17/03/2021 13:45

Having chicken dippers and potatoes croquettes today 🤣

KidsDisapprove · 17/03/2021 13:46

Leftovers, today was chilli and rice. Or toastie or salad.

sonicshoegazes · 17/03/2021 13:47

A huge bar of chocolate. I'm on a Debbie downer today.

KenAdams · 17/03/2021 13:49

Raman noodles and a piece of fruit usually or some bits from the M&S 3 for £7 deli range.

I'm going to make the spice paste for this this week though in a bid to be a bit healthier - thehappyfoodie.co.uk/recipes/nadiya-hussains-instant-noodles

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 17/03/2021 13:52

A precooked chilli salmon fillet, two hard boiled eggs, salad and some rice from the night before/same with smoked trout/prawns.

Sometimes it's chicken/turkey breast instead, with varying spices or leftover pork. Or precooked mackerel, and sometimes potato salad/beetroot/etc instead of rice.

Tuna pasta salad works pretty well, too, as does a half arsed version of Niçoise.

Other weeks, though, it'll be wraps or ham and cheese sandwiches and a packet of Pom-Bears.

Potterythrowdown · 17/03/2021 13:57

Soup & a roll, sandwich or a picky plate of fridge bits.

StrawberrySquash · 17/03/2021 13:58

Pizza with a tortilla as the base. Pile of salad. There's pretty much always a pile of salad.

Cottoncandyisland · 17/03/2021 14:01

@LucilleTheVampireBat

Now that's my kind of lunch lol :)
