To expect Mothers Day cards to say "Mum" not "Nan"

Boysgrownbutstillathome · 14/03/2021 14:34

You may remember my post on Valentine's day when my DH unwittingly bought me a card to "My handsome fiance". I was upset about it but most of you Mumsnetters found it hilarious and it made the pages of The Sun!
Well this is my DS's Mother's day card to me. Rightly expecting a MD card to say "Mum" he didn't notice it said "Nan"! I did laugh this time and got him to overwrite it. AIBU to think that Mothers' day is for mothers, not grandmothers ( unless your grandmother raised you)

Grin haha. Are you at least a grandmother??

Itsjustaride8w737 · 14/03/2021 14:37

My grandmother helped raise me, I bought her a card and flowers every year. This year is the first without her.

Looks like your DS takes after his dad op, sorry!

Hopdathelf · 14/03/2021 14:38

It’s not beyond the wit of man to imagine that some people are cared for by grandparents and might like to acknowledge them taking on the mother role without pretending they are mum.

StepOutOfLine · 14/03/2021 14:39

Couldn't you just have pretended it was fine for the poor kid?

My two cards from my DDs, one was from the dog and one was from the cat? Apparently they chosen them themselves. I'm not so sure that's true.

Itsjustaride8w737 · 14/03/2021 14:46

He's 22

Jesus. Hope he's not your only child!

Di11y · 14/03/2021 14:48

My mum's dead. You rarely get step mum cards but I have seen them, I get an aunty card for my lovely aunty and my kids like getting a nanna card so why shouldn't they.

ForestYeti · 14/03/2021 14:50

My kids always get their Nana cards and presents on Mother’s Day, they want to show her how much she is appreciated too

Sheesh! How do we raise robust adults if if we they cant learn from mistakes?

"You fucked up mate, let's brush it under the carpet"

Not even to make light of it or a joke about it?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/03/2021 14:52

I decorated a cake for my DHs 36th birthday last month (mentioning the age.

He was actually 37. I have no idea why I got mixed up... My only defence was he was 36 when I made it.

StepOutOfLine · 14/03/2021 14:54

@ConeHat

Well, tbf, the writing she's put the photo of makes him look about 4 and I presumed it was the first time he'd picked his own card. As she's now clarified he's 22 I think she should kick him out tbh.

The first line is peak Mumsnet, the reply made me laugh Grin.

Teentitansonloop · 14/03/2021 14:58

When I went to Tesco last night all the mother's day cards were gone with only Nan one's left. So that's probably the explanation is that your DS left it late.

Also annoying is that we don't use Nan in Scotland, more likely to be Grannie so all the Nan cards were just left.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 14/03/2021 15:01

Are you sure he isn't pulling your leg that he didn't notice it said Nan? Given your reaction to the other card I suspect your family may be competing to give the most almost-appropriate card.

Beetlewing · 14/03/2021 15:08

Mine said 'Happy Mother's Day from the cat' signed by the kids.

I’m just waiting ‘til her birthday comes Grin
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 14/03/2021 15:11

That’s very funny! Especially from a 22 yo. Are you sure he wasn’t deliberately trying to outdo the Valentines card? If so that’s even funnier.

I think it’s fair enough to have Nan cards for MD because people do like to acknowledge all women who have cared for them, which is fine with me!

Boysgrownbutstillathome · 14/03/2021 15:14

My birthday has been and gone without any card mistakes ☺

Grin Grin Thanks OP! That's made me smile.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 14/03/2021 15:17

He's clearly a chip off the old block! It's funny - at least he remembered and marked the day.

My wife’s cousin’s husband bought her a card for their wedding anniversary. He forgot to change the automatic text on Moonpig or whatever.

“Happy Anniversary David”.

I found it hilarious. I’d have ran with it and every subsequent card would be “...David”. Obviously we all asked “Who’s David?” (Busted reference).
