To expect Mothers Day cards to say "Mum" not "Nan"

You may remember my post on Valentine's day when my DH unwittingly bought me a card to "My handsome fiance". I was upset about it but most of you Mumsnetters found it hilarious and it made the pages of The Sun!
Well this is my DS's Mother's day card to me. Rightly expecting a MD card to say "Mum" he didn't notice it said "Nan"! I did laugh this time and got him to overwrite it. AIBU to think that Mothers' day is for mothers, not grandmothers ( unless your grandmother raised you)

My husband bought the children a card from them that said 'Mammy '. We say Mummy and he hadn't noticed.

I went to Home Bargains in my lunch break on Wednesday to get a Mother's Day card for my Mum (wouldn't normally be my choice of shop to buy a greetings card but there aren't many shops currently open that are located close to my workplace)

On the stand there was a single card left with Mum on it (which I bought) and all the rest said Nan or Grandma. Very bizarre because I agree with you that unless your GM raised you I'm not sure why you would buy her a Mother's Day card?!

Very weird but if your DS left it later than me he may have had no choice!

That's a remarkable coincidence unless he did it on purpose for a laugh

@Doomsdayiscoming

My wife’s cousin’s husband bought her a card for their wedding anniversary. He forgot to change the automatic text on Moonpig or whatever.

“Happy Anniversary David”.

I found it hilarious. I’d have ran with it and every subsequent card would be “...David”. Obviously we all asked “Who’s David?” (Busted reference).

🤣

Ha, I have been giving dd a terrible time all day because she chose a Nan card for me.

Felifox · 14/03/2021 16:13

My ndn's boy forgot his card and popped round to the local shop and came back with a nan card. She wasn't amused

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 14/03/2021 16:15

Mothers Day is a commercial opportunity - you can purchase almost any variant of card.
You are HOPING to be mentioned in the sleazy tabloid again? - surely the only purpose for this post.

obstinatrix · 14/03/2021 16:16

I always used to buy my Nanna a Mother's Day card. I liked her a hell of a lot more than I like my mam. Unfortunately this was known by all, so the year I posted both mam and Nanna a card, at the same time, in literally the same handful, into the same postbox, and Nanna's arrived on time but mam's didn't, there was some upset at her end. I don't think she believes the (true!) story to this day.

AnSionnachGlic · 14/03/2021 16:21

Maybe he is about to announce that his girlfriend is pregnant?????

ShortColdandGrey · 14/03/2021 16:25

My husband picked a beautiful card that was in amongst the mothers day cards. It had Happy Birthday inside Grin.

Okbussitout · 14/03/2021 16:26

Well he's lazy so I'm sorry about that for you. He should know better.
But personally I think mothers day is for celebration of mothers not just your mother. So I normally get my mum something but also a little something for my grandma and sister.

MuddleMoo · 14/03/2021 16:27

I'd have thought he was trying to make a joke about this years valentines card making it into the sun.

HoollyWugger · 14/03/2021 16:29

My DD once sent me one that read "To someone who's like a mother to me" 😳😆

CrocodilesCry · 14/03/2021 16:30

Wow - what an amazing coincidence! Are you sure he didn't do it on purpose?

HalfTermHalfTerm · 14/03/2021 16:31

I was specifically looking for a grandma one and couldn’t find one! I normally buy a specific one but this year she got a “With love on Mother’s Day” or something similar.

It’s the norm in my family for grandchildren to also celebrate their grandparents on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. I had no idea that plenty of other people don’t until I mentioned it to my first serious boyfriend.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 14/03/2021 16:32

It smacks of not putting any thought or care into it which is why the OP is put out. Her DH and DS have literally just bought the first thing they've seen and not even bothered to read it.

janj2301 · 14/03/2021 16:36

My girls have to trawl through shops/web sites to find cards that say Mothering Sunday. Mother's day drives me distraction it's a Hallmark celebration from America, sometime in May

Good for you. What does that have to do with the OP?
theliverpoolone · 14/03/2021 16:38

When dd was small her card to me said on the front 'You're like a mother to me' Hmm. I was non too pleased (with dp not dd!). He 'blamed' her for choosing it - ie he'd obviously just stood there and took no interest in steering her to the actual Mummy cards or looked at what she'd chosen!

My daughter wrote Happy Birthday on mine and didn't notice until she gave it to me 😁

1forAll74 · 14/03/2021 16:41

I had a card on Mothers day years ago,it was from my son,he was about 12 then, he is almost 50 now. The card said, happy day to you my friend, and there was a picture of a motorbike on the front.. A slight mix up somewhere !!
