Use of the C**t word

Kintsugi16 · 12/03/2021 13:31

I wasn’t sure the word cunt was allowed in the title. Anyway.

I see this word being used more and more on forums and in general conversation. It was once shocking but is now becoming more acceptable.

Do posters, many who identify has feminists, not have a problem using a word for female genitalia as a derogatory term?

I don’t use the C word, but I do use twat. I also use dickhead, so clearly I’m not bothered by using any genitalia as an insult.

Toilenstripes · 12/03/2021 13:33

My understanding is that it’s considered much worse in America than in England or Scotland where it’s practically a warm greeting.

emilyfrost · 12/03/2021 13:35

It’s just a word. People really need to stop finding offence in everything.

Blancah · 12/03/2021 13:37

I used to hate the word cunt but now I use the word cunt all the time. In fact, I called someone a cunt not 20 minutes ago. They deserved it, btw.

partyatthepalace · 12/03/2021 13:37

I use it. I like a good swear. What annoys me is it’s not shocking to use dickhead cocklodger etc, but apparently female genitalia is WAY TOO SHOCKING to be used. Why?

OliverBabish · 12/03/2021 13:39

It’s my favourite swear word, reserved for only the biggest arseholes

Markies · 12/03/2021 13:41

Can be used as a term of endearment by people in Scotland. Not me personally but know people who do. Same with fud.

IAcceptCookies · 12/03/2021 13:41

I don't use this word myself, but can't say I'm too bothered by it.
When you consider such derogatory terms as: dick, dickhead, cock, cocklodger, wankshaft, prick, bawbag, scrote etc. I'd say we had at least equality on the "genitals as insults" front.

BatmanBaby · 12/03/2021 13:42

I never understand why it's considered worse than words for male genitalia...

TeapotCollection · 12/03/2021 13:43

Some people definitely deserve to be called a cunt!

thepeopleversuswork · 12/03/2021 13:46

I have no problem with it as long as it isn’t used specifically to put women down.

Thankfully the English language is an equal opportunity insulter and there are plenty of equivalent insults involving male genitalia which are usually interchangeable. I also swear copiously unless I am around children.

The only time I am uncomfortable with it is when it has a misogynistic subtext. This is one of these classic situations which is pornography: it’s hard to define but you know it when you see it.

NewYearNewTwatName · 12/03/2021 13:47

no, no problem using it.

I once filled the whole of active with Cunt in all the titles.

Yes it was silly of me and quite childish really, but it was after a heated debate on the word cunt.

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 12/03/2021 13:47

Oh God, claiming everything is misogynistic is so tedious. If you find the word offensive then don't use it. You can't police which swear words other people use.

This. I dont see it as any more offensive than calling somone a dick. I will say the offensive level seems to depend on where you are. In Scotland or Ireland it's fairly accepted an insult but I now live in the south west of England where it doesnt seem to be used.
IAcceptCookies · 12/03/2021 13:55

Not sure I agree with that; I've never heard a female be called dickhead, prick, bellend etc. Actually, I've mostly he

IAcceptCookies · 12/03/2021 13:55

Sorry, I've mostly heard makes, rather than females be called cunts, too!

I’ve heard of plenty of women being referred to as a dick and prick. Granted, never a bellend but definitely the first two.
Frozenintime · 12/03/2021 13:59

Up north, some people say twat but some find it very offensive

amusedbush · 12/03/2021 14:03

I live in Glasgow. The word is basically used like punctuation here.

MyLittleOrangutan · 12/03/2021 14:04

That's the only word I hate (except racist words but you know know what I mean)

Just something about it is so vile. I don't relate it to female genitalia at all though and I say all the other genital based swear words.

I was going to say this, and I’m in Ayrshire. It’s a “bad” word....but kiiiinnnnddda accepted at the same time.
MyLittleOrangutan · 12/03/2021 14:07

I call women dicks and bellends and men twats and fannys equally, bellend and fanny are like friendly swear words though that you say to friends when they're pratting about

changingnames786 · 12/03/2021 14:07

Nope, I think far too much energy goes into anger at cunt when it's words like slut and slag which are pre water shed words yet to me as a feminist are far more offensive. Cunt doesn't offend me at all, why would it?

greycloudysky · 12/03/2021 14:08

For me it depends how it's used. If you called me a cunt then it would be the last time I spoke to you. If you called the shopping a cunt to get up the stairs or referred to someone as a cunt in front of me, it wouldn't really bother me.

Crankley · 12/03/2021 14:09

I hate it and never use it.
