Use of the C**t word

Kintsugi16 · 12/03/2021 13:31

I wasn’t sure the word cunt was allowed in the title. Anyway.

I see this word being used more and more on forums and in general conversation. It was once shocking but is now becoming more acceptable.

Do posters, many who identify has feminists, not have a problem using a word for female genitalia as a derogatory term?

OP posts:
Porcupineintherough · 12/03/2021 14:11

I dont like it and I wouldnt use it but I dont see why it's worse than using the words for make genitalia in a derogatory way - and that's pretty much ubiquitous.

Pipepans · 12/03/2021 14:12

I think it sometimes about people if they have been the worst that humanity has to offer with behaviour but I don't say it out loud.

Hypocritically it bothers me if I hear it in public, which sadly is pretty frequently nowadays, but not from the point of view of being offensive to women, just the worst swear word I can think of. Anything goes now, behaviour, language etc in public. It's quite sad really. No one cares if children are present etc.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 12/03/2021 14:14

No, because I don't see it as a euphemism for a vagina. It's become its own word.

My usual is dick, for both men and women. Again, I don't actually mean "penis" when I call someone a dick.

Claudia84 · 12/03/2021 14:21

Why would a feminist be bothered about using genitalia as a derogatory term? I’m not a feminist because I think vaginas are marvellous. I’m a feminist because I don’t want to discriminated against just because I was born with one.

Nobody is asking men why they call each other dicks?

pabloescobarselasticband · 12/03/2021 14:27

Its one of my favourite words....slag on the other hand is revolting!

NewYearNewTwatName · 12/03/2021 14:30

This^

AIMummy · 12/03/2021 14:32

@amusedbush

I live in Glasgow. The word is basically used like punctuation here.
🤣
changi · 12/03/2021 14:33

I never use it and don't know anybody who does. Thankfully.

GoddessKali · 12/03/2021 14:33

Ever since I discovered it derives from the word goddess I’ve been far happier using it! Grin

whatswithtodaytoday · 12/03/2021 14:33

It's an excellent swear, I enjoy using it.

AnotherName1334 · 12/03/2021 14:34

I agree OP. If someone is called a cunt as an insult, what's that saying about 'cunts'/female genitalia? That's how I see it.

I've used twat before but really didn't know it was also female genitalia. Won't use it again.

I've no issues with swearing or words used in a clever way btw.

BrownEyedGirl80 · 12/03/2021 14:35

I use it of its deserved.Im northern though and I think it sounds more sweary up here than down south

TheGumption · 12/03/2021 14:36

It's sort of gone past shocking now into cringe territory. A lot of people seem to use it to make an impact and it falls short, I feel.

AnotherName1334 · 12/03/2021 14:37

It's weird people saying it's only if it's really deserved. To me, it means someone has to be the worst to be given the label of female genitalia? The insult really is then to female genitalia and not the person.

StCharlotte · 12/03/2021 14:39

I love it and use it all the time.

However I've only used it in actual anger once.

Stealthfart · 12/03/2021 14:41

I called the cat a cunt when he woke me up at 5:30 this morning. I don’t really associate the word with fannies though, I think it has evolved. When people moan about it I feel like I’m being told off by my mum. Then I remember my mum says it too.

NormanStangerson · 12/03/2021 14:42

I enjoy using all of the genitalia-based insults. Make and female. In fact, I might start using ‘genitalia’ as an insult too. 👍🏻

😂😂
SemperIdem · 12/03/2021 14:44

Use it all the time. It’s no worse than calling someone a dickhead.

AnotherName1334 · 12/03/2021 14:46

I do casually wonder why both male and female genitalia are used as swear words though - what's the reason behind it? I see them the same as every other part of the body so perhaps I should be swearing with 'arm', 'nose', 'fingernails', etc... See which ones stick.

needasleep · 12/03/2021 14:48

I also live in Glasgow and we use as an insult and a term of endearment! Listen to Gerry Cinnamon's Diamonds in the Mud he sings "And there's no other place where a 'cunt' might not be a put down"

JumpOnAPlane · 12/03/2021 14:53

Interesting post.

Reminded me of being at school when I was 13 or 14. Teacher left room to fetch something and the class clown ran to the front of the class, raised his hands in the air and very loudly proclaimed "I'm a CUNT, I'm a CUNT, I'm a COUNTRY BOY"!

Oh boy, did we laughSmile

NotMyCircusNotMyProblem · 12/03/2021 14:54

Urgh... no, I never use the 'C' word. I hate it, I think it's really vulgar. In fact I'm not keen on any genitalia swear words.

My 'go to' swear word is Fuck. I love this word, it's so versatile and much more acceptable (IMO) than the 'C' word.

Shnuffles · 12/03/2021 14:55

I don't like it and don't use it.

I do wonder what will happen as society at large continues to push the envelope of making curse words more widely accepted/acceptable, even in what passes for polite company. I suppose they'll have to invent new ones to be the new "worst of the worst", once the ones that were previously "shocking" are rendered impotent.

Megan2018 · 12/03/2021 14:56

@partyatthepalace

I use it. I like a good swear. What annoys me is it’s not shocking to use dickhead cocklodger etc, but apparently female genitalia is WAY TOO SHOCKING to be used. Why?
Same.

I say Cunt a lot. I also say Dickhead, Knobhead and Twat most days (Welsh Cob owners will understand why). I am very sweary and happy to use any genitalia references.
