In the warmer months to come if you were in your garden drinking, talking, playing music etc what time would you call it a night?

I'm thinking 11:00pm is a fair time, this is a city with neighbour's very close by, not at all rural

Curious for individual opinions, thanks

9pm on Fri/Sat, earlier in the week.

Howdoin · 06/03/2021 20:12

I wouldn’t play music in the garden and, if out talking and drinking, we would move indoors by 10pm so as not to disturb the neighbours.

wellthatsunusual · 06/03/2021 20:12

Probably around 10pm at the weekend

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 06/03/2021 20:13

On a weekend? 10 ish maybe.Possibly 11. I think 11 is the rule of thumb local authorities use for when things should quieten down.

9 latest during the week though.

Howdoin · 06/03/2021 20:14

10pm would be weekend only. Wouldn’t be out beyond 8pm in the week when people have to get up for work. They’d want to wind down before bed.

AbstractHeart · 06/03/2021 20:14

I think 11pm on an occasional Friday/Saturday night is fine. If it was a weeknight or every week then as a neighbour I'd probably get pissed off.

Mummy1608 · 06/03/2021 20:14

10pm at the latest for music in the garden, I would say. Then turn off music and ideally move indoors.

Mummy1608 · 06/03/2021 20:16

I agree if it was the weekend I'd be less annoyed my neighbours were making noise later than 10 but I wouldn't do it myself.

However I'm a bit of a grump and dislike hearing others playing music in the garden even in the daytime lol.

StoneofDestiny · 06/03/2021 20:18

Music is unnecessary in the garden.
9 weekday
10 weekend - unless all the neighbours were invited.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 06/03/2021 20:33

10pm playing music etc.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 06/03/2021 20:35

Ps yes to earlier in the week.

user1493413286 · 06/03/2021 20:38

We live in an area with lots of families so I’d turn off music by 8pm but sit in the garden until 11pm although realistically probably normally come in by 10 as it starts getting chilly later into the night

0blio · 06/03/2021 20:40

Ffs don't play music in your garden, it's so inconsiderate!

Oysterbabe · 06/03/2021 20:40

10pm to be out but I wouldn't be playing music at that time. It's antisocial at any time of the day but even more so late at night.

0blio · 06/03/2021 20:41

What if everyone in neighbouring gardens played different music? Hmm

ShinyMe · 06/03/2021 20:42

I never play music in the garden where I have neighbours, and I don't want to hear neighbours' music even if I'm not at work the next day. I doubt your neighbours want to hear your music and your conversations.

WorraLiberty · 06/03/2021 20:43

11pm on a weekend but with quiet voices and no music.

BeHappyAndSmile · 06/03/2021 21:02

@ShinyMe

I never play music in the garden where I have neighbours, and I don't want to hear neighbours' music even if I'm not at work the next day. I doubt your neighbours want to hear your music and your conversations.
So you should just never use your garden? Or sit silently if you must? Hmm

For what it's worth, every weekend 11ppm would probably be a bit much but if it's just the occasional one then 11 is reasonable. I've had neighbours doing it till 2am before, it's just something you deal with on occasion when you live in a built up area.

realunicorn · 06/03/2021 21:06

Around 11pm or if it's a rare party I don't mind a little later ( bonus points if I've had a heads up)

The thing that grinds my gears is people having outdoor parties with karaoke. Old neighbours I'm looking at you!

Music I can happily tolerate - Mozart to heavy metal I don't care .... but please for the love of God - no horrific drunken karaoke!!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/03/2021 21:11

So you should just never use your garden? Or sit silently if you must? hmm

No, but I am with that poster. There is simply no need for hours of Johny Cash or similar.

Imapotato · 06/03/2021 21:12

Lots of young kids around us, so probably music off by 9 and in by 10. At weekends, earlier in the week.

Wannabecheerleader · 06/03/2021 21:12

I get up at 05:30am for a 13 hour shift. If you were doing that every night, i’d be getting rather unhappy OP.

minipie · 06/03/2021 21:14

We live in a fairly tightly packed terrace. I would never play music in the garden, ever, day or night except maybe for a one off “big” birthday and would give neighbours advance notice and apology.

Without music I think 11pm is ok at the weekend. Maybe 9pm on a school night.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/03/2021 21:15

@0blio

What if everyone in neighbouring gardens played different music? Hmm
That's actually what happens here. And then there is some kind of musical fight when the volumes go up until there is only one left playing🤦

I am actually preparing that if that happens I will stop being quietly annoyed and present something like this

It's that or Rammstein

Totallydefeated · 06/03/2021 21:17

We have a small, forty garden and I never play music in it as I don’t see why I should selfishly impose my music on others.

If it were a special event, eg big birthday party, I’d switch off by 11pm at the weekend.
