In the warmer months to come if you were in your garden drinking, talking, playing music etc what time would you call it a night?

I'm thinking 11:00pm is a fair time, this is a city with neighbour's very close by, not at all rural

Curious for individual opinions, thanks

I could honestly not get worked up about people playing music in their garden. There are lots of things people do that annoy me but this really isn’t one.

Well then you are lucky you have same music style😁

I moved out of a city centre for bit of peace, instead I have loud music on most sunny days, most day. 😫 At least the arguing drunks before provided for aome entertainment with new swearwords etc😫

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 07/03/2021 15:29

@SchrodingersImmigrant

As long as it’s not just screaming masquerading as music, I’m fairly open minded about music. Maybe that’s why I don’t mind my neighbours playing music.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 07/03/2021 15:34

I can listen to anything from System of A Down through Britney, classical to even some opera.

But I draw line at whole afternoon of country music😂

Soubriquet · 07/03/2021 15:36

A week day...9pm at the latest but if you were quieter, then any time

Weekend, 10pm latest but again if you don’t blast music and make a lot of noise, then as late as you want

SchrodingersImmigrant · 07/03/2021 15:36

I think world is generally too loud so it would be nicw forr people to stop making it louder unnecessarily like this. When was the last time you heard nothing. No electrical hum from appliances, no cars, no tool, no "Joleeene, Joleeeeeeeene" (great song if not) on loop. Quiet is needed sometimes

littlepattilou · 07/03/2021 15:40

11pm is too late. In the garden, I would say 9pm is late enough.

Some people may have work very early the next day, or may have kids in bed!

It's rude and irresponsible and selfish to be laughing and chatting loudly and playing music in the garden any time after 8.30pm-9pm. Why should everyone else have to hear you and your rowdy mates anyway?

And it's always the same kind of people who are loud and rowdy late at night - ALWAYS.

littlepattilou · 07/03/2021 15:42

Oh God! The 'I couldn't get worked up about this' brigade are out. Hmm

So patronising!

My DD(7) listens to Disney soundtracks on loop. I can pretty much tune anything out now. Grin
maddy68 · 07/03/2021 16:12

Depends on the day. Weekdays probably about 9/10 weekends later if friends round

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 07/03/2021 16:17

@AbstractHeart

Those that say absolutely no music in the garden but chatting is fine: How do you feel about someone playing a podcast or talk radio in their garden?
I feel that they should have the common decency to use headphones. No one else wants to listen to their choice of entertainment/therapy
justcannotwithyou · 07/03/2021 17:46

Why should my want to sit in silence trump their want to listen to music?

You can wear headphones if you desperately want to listen to music. For your neighbours, there's no option but to listen to your music if you decide to put it on in the garden. They can't continue their nice chat with their mum or reading their book when you stick "livin' la vida loca" on.
They will most likely be able to hear it inside their house too, I know I could when I had inconsiderate asshats for neighbours. I had to put headphones on to drown them out, inside my own house with the windows shut. Why on earth should anyone ever have to put headphones on so that you can blare your music in the garden?

YOU want to listen to music, YOU wear the headphones.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 07/03/2021 17:52

I might start ruining these by having bbqs every time volume is above acceptable level.
I might get back to morbidly obese, but it's a sacrifice I just might be willing to make 🙈(thinks of grilled lamb ribs..)

SchrodingersImmigrant · 07/03/2021 17:53

Yrah. Why should someone's want to sit outside without bbq smell trump me wanting a bbq. Yeah

steppemum · 07/03/2021 17:55

I do find it interesting the gap between mn and real life at times.
Just to clarify, I don't play music in the garden, but many of my neighbours do.
I find that no-one minds if it is quiet. They accept it as part of the noise of suburbia. There is one neighbour who plays it loudly, and everyone objects to that. But even more they object to the fact that it goes on for hours.

I don't think you should play a lot of music in the garden, but I personally don't really see the difference between noise from dogs, kids, builders and music. It is all noise. I find high pitched squealing and dogs yapping worse than some low level music.
To me it is back to all things in moderation.

Macncheeseballs · 07/03/2021 17:56

Cos one bbq affects more than just you

SchrodingersImmigrant · 07/03/2021 17:58

And the x hours of music doesn't affect more than one person?🤔
minipie · 07/03/2021 19:28

I agree it’s all noise

The difference is that noise from kids, dogs and builders is unavoidable (well unless people just don’t have kids, dogs, or building work but that’s a rather big restriction on their lives!)

Whereas noise from music is avoidable by wearing headphones, and if that’s not possible for some reason, not having music in your garden is a pretty small sacrifice compared to not having a child or a pet or building work done.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 07/03/2021 19:33

It's also the fact it's continuous. Builder stops for a bit. Child tires. Dog stops barking after a bit.
However, that speakers in houses around don't need to take a break.

shouldistop · 07/03/2021 19:53

10pm at the weekend and only with very quiet music up the back away from anyone's house (no neighbours behind).
7pm during the week.

wingsandstrings · 07/03/2021 20:48

10pm. Tbh I'd still be annoyed if the neighbours were going past 9pm as they'd be keeping my younger DD awake, however I would at the same time suspect myself of being a bit unreasonable and I'd try and shake It off. Past 10pm and I'd no longer fight the feeling of annoyance. At 11pm I'd be plotting waking them v v early with some hoovering or drilling.

Skysblue · 08/03/2021 12:49

Music in a garden dominates the surrounding properties and it’s rude to do it unless it’s a special occasion or unless you’re surrounded by equally rude neighbours. Especially when it’s so easy to use headphones.

Talking loudly etc without music but disturbing sleep - 10pm weekday / midnight weekends.
