To think that a 6 year sentence is excessive

And that à man in the same circumstances would never have been given such a sentence.

Obviously she should be punished and never teach again, but 6 years!

[quote DimidDavilby]I do not think it is excessive but you are right that a man would not receive that sentance.

A quick Google and this male teacher got two years.

You didn't read the story in the op did you?

She lied to the child about being pregnant with his baby to manipulate him.

She didn't plead guilty and out the boy through having to testify at two trials.

When she realised she was caught she forced the boy to destroy evidence.

Sapho47 · 06/03/2021 06:34

@Nimala

Did I suddenly stop being a child then?

Of course not, but there is specific terminology for adults that are attracted to pubescent or post-pubescent children.

No ones writing a scientific paper though, in common usage peadophile means someone who is sexually attracted to people under the age of consent.

Pedantry doesn't really add anything.

Yes, but she's not tecnically a paedophile, you know. And it's not as bad as if a man did the same things to a woman.

I'd've just given her a fine, personally.

thedancingbear · 06/03/2021 06:36

This thread will be deleted by the end of the day, anyway. Whenever MN goes apeshit like this, like sticking up for a child abuser because she's a woman, the evidence always disappears.

Pyewackect · 06/03/2021 06:42

She lied to the court and was deliberately evasive.

He admitted his guilt and showed remorse, this lady has denied it and showed no remorse.

sonnysunshine · 06/03/2021 06:53

What is utterly disgusting is the length of sentence that happened in your case. I am sorry that happened.

It does seem a long sentence compared to other sentences in similar cases.

There was quite substantial text evidence so perhaps something in the defence approach caused a harsher sentence to be imposed? There was also a lot of pre case publicity and a retrial for one of the charges.

But yes, male teacher charged of 5 counts of sexual activity with a 15 year old gets less than 3 years, woman gets 6 years.

radioband · 06/03/2021 07:19

@LucieStar

Have people seen the photos of her leaving court as well with DH holding her hand? How the hell has he managed to stand by her?!
You would hope he comes to his senses whilst she is inside!
NoMackerelInSwindon · 06/03/2021 07:47

Nobody should really comment on sentences unless they have read the court sentencing transcript.

PugInTheHouse · 06/03/2021 07:53

The reason I don't think its too long is mainly due to her being his teacher (as well as the denying it and putting him through trial). I dont think its comparable to someone in their 20s meeting a boy/girl out clubbing who is 15 but lies about their age, as much as I think you should ensure you know who the person is before sleeping with them I wouldn't expect a 6 year sentence for something like that but to meet and groom a 15 year old when you are teaching them is horrific and should be properly punished.

When I was 15 I was in pubs and clubs and often lied (well mainly omitted) about my age. I don't think in that situation the men would deserve any sort of sentence but even if i had thrown myself at a teacher there is no way they should respond whatsoever. I know several teachers who probably went too far with students but I don't know any who actually physically went too far.

He appears easily manipulated, seems rather 'young' shall we say for his age....
She had to lie to the court and deny it all I reckon so she could still say to her kids "it didnt happen". If she admitted it she would take away their shred of hope that it was all lies and people were out to get her.

VivaLeBeaver · 06/03/2021 08:10

@Maxellious

I don't think 6 yes is excessive.

But I wouldn't be surprised, if the genders were reversed, of a man not getting anything like that length of sentence. Female sexual assault victims are always painted as somewhat at fault (even though it's bullshit)

Jeremy forest got 5 and a half years so quite similar.

VivaLeBeaver · 06/03/2021 08:13

And I’m glad to see the court thinks that teenage boys need protecting as much as teenage girls. I’m sure there’s still some people who would be of the “lucky 15yo boy, bet he loved it” opinion. Which is wrong.

GreenlandTheMovie · 06/03/2021 08:15

Jeremy Forest did technically abduct the girl though and went on the run to France with her, causing there to be an international search for the pair.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 06/03/2021 08:15

She’s a disgusting and peverted sexual predator. She’s probably emotionally fucked that child up and has damaged his future relationships with women.

If it were my son I’d be waiting outside when she’s released.

Yes, but he also admitted it and I think showed remorse.

No one is sticking up for a child abuser and only an idiot would say that
EmmaGrundyForPM · 06/03/2021 08:32

I think the difference is that Jeremy Forest pleaded guilty and showed remorse. You get 1/3 off your sentence for pleading guilty so if he had pleaded not guilty he would have got 8 years.

Her poor teenage children as well. Can't even imagine how disgusted and embarrassed they must be.

Organisedchaos2022 · 06/03/2021 08:36

I really don’t think it’s gender based and a man would get more. My ds was conceived when I was 15 with my PE teacher assistant.
He never even got a sentence. after the fall out I went on to have another dc with him until I was 22 and realised how vile he was.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/03/2021 08:37

Breaks my heart for them - as a mum to a 14yo I know how crucial your social circle is at that age. They'll probably be ostracised.

YukoandHiro · 06/03/2021 08:43

It's not enough! It's absolute grooming. Utterly disgusting.

ShadierThanaPalmTree · 06/03/2021 08:43

Are you being serious op? It's shocking that she only got 6 years, she raped him. Unfortunately, whether the perpetrator is male or female prison sentences for rape do tend to be around 6 years (3 years in the actual prison and 3 years probation). What pisses me off more is that the newspaper reported it as her having "sex" with him in a field, ummm he's 15, that's not sex, he is unable to consent...
