Thanks, I'm more comfortable with reducing the sentence to spare the victim than to save money but I guess it is what it is.

Just had a quick look, I will have a proper read but it does seem to make sense. Makes it hard to compare sentences if you don't know all the details though.

It does @ancientgran you can find sentencing guidlines on the sentencing council website and see what kind of things they take into the account and what are starting points. Really interesting in some way

She is a paedo. She groomed and raped a child. I don’t know why you think men get let off? I think all paedos should never come out of jail.

As Schrodinger says, it's worthwhile looking at the sentencing guidelines for the offence.

Basically, any judge has to stick to the guidelines.

For this particular offence you can read the guidelines on page 45:-

The starting point for this offence is 5 years in prison with a range of 4 to 10 years depending on mitigating or aggravating factors.

People have mentioned about other cases where the offender got a much lower sentence. Again, that comes down to the guidelines and where there is a lower level of culpability then the starting point is 1 year in prison with a range of a community order to 2 years in prison.

She also lied about being pregnant which in itself should carry a punishment.

I have read two news reports today of males who have thousands of child rape and abuse images many of which were category A and neither of them got any jail time. I get that they didn’t physically harm anyone but surely they should get a couple of months jail time at least!

A paedophile from our county had highest cat pictures of children on his computer and got 3 years.

This is what I was saying earlier- women are overwhelmingly more likely than men to get community rather than custodial sentences. So I don't think women are treated more harshly than men by the CJS at all.

You can't get nothing for murder. Murder carries life sentence and minimum term cannot be nothing or even close to nothing

You're point seems to be getting missed- OP is not saying the sentence should be shorter, but that men in this position seem to get sentences spanning less than two years
