AIBU to tell you that I have received a hun text from a friend I see sporadically, inviting me to join a Facebook Live or Zoom to find out about her exciting and amazing new business venture? She's earning more than her full time job role, can work around the kids and is #living her best life. It's something to do with aloe vera.

It's an attempted MLM ambush isn't it? I've not replied yet.

@TheresOnlyOneJackieWeaver

Sorry I think the emojis went a bit wrong on my previous post! 🙈
I did wonder 😂😂😂

Assuming it’s not very close friend since you’d have probably known and have tried to them out of this sort of shite. If you aren’t particularly close just say that you aren’t interested, throw them a compliment sandwich. ‘Oh I’ve not heard from you in ages, hope you and fam are well. Sorry but this isn’t something I’d be interested in, am I am really trying to cut costs down with covid and everything. I wouldn’t want to waste your time. Hopefully we can catch up once restrictions lift. Some crap like that, firm but polite.

If it is a close friend I’d maybe be a bit more honest and tell them it’s a scam, send them some links showing what mlm is all about.

whataboutbob · 28/02/2021 22:05

It will be Forever Living ( or Forever Lying as I like to call it), a pyramid scheme where somehow they convince you you’ll be living your best life if you buy a load of cheap creams at inflated prices and then have to bug all your friends and fam ily to palm the stuff onto them as you’ve spent so much buying it. Just avoid.

MuddleMoo · 28/02/2021 22:07

How much aloe Vera can one person realistically want to buy. I've no idea where the money is in these things.

Chunkymenrock · 28/02/2021 22:07

Just say you're happy buying it on Amazon. If it is Forever Living, their lip balm is fantastic though! (I do buy them on Amazon!) Best lip balm you can get.

Newkitchen123 · 28/02/2021 22:08

Someone on my list gets to go to Bali or wherever.
OK love

Azuretwist · 28/02/2021 22:09

I always reply ( mainly FP or Argonne or Bodyshop here) with:
“thanks for telling me about your new job and your salary being so great. However, I do not tend to watch what people do for their job to admire their salaries! Nor expect people to spend time admiring how I earn my great salary in my job ( a key worker job FYI)”

toocold54 · 28/02/2021 22:10

You need to be quite blunt op - sorry but I’m not interested.

I’ve had a couple friends do this and if you act the slightest bit interested they don’t leave you alone!

Notaroadrunner · 28/02/2021 22:10

Just reply that you're not interested in mlm after seeing how Gemma got caught up in one on coronation street.

loveablether · 28/02/2021 22:13

@Strongswans

Nope, I'd channel phoebe "I wish I could, but I don't want to"
This. MLm scams can ruin friendships. I hate them so much. Be blunt.

This is a blog and a half about MLM

As the meme says, messages like that are the dick picks of the mom world

therealteamdebbie · 28/02/2021 22:17

could someone explain what the point of the bloody body shop is? You can buy everything on their website and they have better stock! And you find voucher codes online.

So why... just why?!?

I have seen some women clearly spending a fortune on these MLM scam, paying for their own weekend of "training" or team bonding or something of a lifetime. They got a free keyring or a free blanket. It made me sad.

BakedTattie · 28/02/2021 22:19

‘Fuck right off you daft bint 😂’

This is the only way I would reply

SquirtleSquad · 28/02/2021 22:22

Are you mad? OP you're going to be a millionaire boss babe hun and get to go on an all expensive paid for cruise!! #fakeituntilyoumakeit I mean can you really afford not to!?

Thefamilybusiness · 28/02/2021 22:26

Oh hell run away.
Forever bloody living. My eldest decided to do it a while back. After paying £20 for toothpaste I gave up trying to be a supportive parent and told her to sod off.

FedNlanders · 28/02/2021 22:28

Bet its body shop

LilQueenie · 28/02/2021 22:29

Most people switch to a different MLM after a while. My Dsis does it and its a laugh to see all the posts. Most being tweaked truth to downright lies. Its easy to show a perfect life it's impossible to live one.

Whatafabulousday · 28/02/2021 22:33

Was all that crockery ages back MLM? Pizza boards, sort of oven ware that cost 20x more than John Lewis? Oh god what was it called, about 15 years ago?

QuitMoaning · 28/02/2021 22:37

Pampered chef?

I went to one of those parties and got the giggles and was asked to leave.

FedNlanders · 28/02/2021 22:38

I have someone doing a relentless fat burner drink. I've seen her recently she looks exactly the same too. Apparently she owns her house on fb but she has same landlord as us...just so many lies.

JustAnotherSod · 28/02/2021 22:38

Whatafabulousday Pampered Chef I think?

EleanorLenor · 28/02/2021 22:39

If she’s earning on top of her full time job I’m sure she’ll be paying tax on it right.... right?

You’ve gone from friend to just another opportunity for her, OP. I’d be offended AF.

Would probably say “oh god as long as it isn’t that Forever Living lol! My mate got caught out with that “

PPNC · 28/02/2021 22:39

You have to reply “Tell me you haven’t for sucked into one of those loss making MLM schemes woman, c’mon you’re better than that!”

Bella43 · 28/02/2021 22:42

@toocold54 I was still clobbered and didn't look in the least bit interested. I was given the hard sell on a hamper of all things. Because as a struggling single parent I obviously looked like I want to spend £40 on a basket full of Forever Living aloe Vera stuff at Christmas time. Errr, no thanks and how do I get out of here 😂
