To be so annoyed by this idiotic woman posting about her dog on Facebook

Cheeseandlobster · 27/02/2021 13:35

A woman posted on facebook yesterday about her missing dog. Heartbroken etc. Then she says a few posts down " I let him out for half an hour a day and he always comes back. This just isnt like him"

Ffs. So she lets her dog out to shit on the street and to possibly get taken as bait. Another man commented saying he sees the dog everyday and has to wait as it often crosses the road in front of his car. So in a nice way he was saying the dog has no road sense. And then later on there are more posts saying the dog has been clipped by a car and is at the vets

Dp had to stop me posting back yesterday to tell her what an absolute irresponsible idiot she is. We live in a rough area and she is just round the corner so he doesnt want any back lash from her apparently large family. But I cant stop feeling bloody angry at her. My dog is reactive and I worry myself sick taking him out because of all the strays on the streets wandering around without owners because " they are ok for half an hour" Angry

If the dog is at the vets she may get stuck with a hefty bill. Totally agree with you, but your DH is right, not worth making enemies.

MrsBDarcy · 27/02/2021 13:41

YANBU to be upset but I'd steer clear of commenting on social media. There'll be plenty thinking it and it's sometimes easier to say nothing. It's disgusting though that she does this. Clearly not bothered about its safety and the poo it no doubt does - I'm on one about poo currently. It's vile round here with all the lockdown dogs. I have a dog btw !

letsnotscaretheneighbours · 27/02/2021 13:43

Yadnbu there is a woman 2 doors down from us that I reported to the dog warden because she let's her jack roam like a cat. It is dog aggressive and I have 2 SBTs that I don't want to get accused of maiming it or similar they are always on lead but fucking devil dog always runs right to their face

Anyway she shut the front door for a week and then started leaving it open again. I have toyed with the idea of just letting my two pin it but I think it'd bite mine and I'm not putting them in that position.

Mayorquimby2 · 27/02/2021 13:44

Yanbu but your husband is also right

Posting won't change anyone's mind or behaviour and so it only has the potential to make your life more difficult so I shouldn't bother getting dragged in to it

letsnotscaretheneighbours · 27/02/2021 13:45

@MrsBDarcy that makes my blood boil. I run my two (canicross belt) and I still manage to stash poo bags in my socks, pick up after them and dispose in dog poo bin.

Shnuffles · 27/02/2021 13:45

There are a few possibilities. One, she's ignorant and doesn't know better. Two, she's not intelligent enough to understand how dangerous it is to let dogs roam alone. Three, she just doesn't care, because this works for her (too lazy to walk him, maybe).

Your husband is right that it's best not to confront her personally. You won't make a positive change on someone like that, and will probably only draw the ire of the family.

Honeyroar · 27/02/2021 13:49

These sort of people annoy me. There is an elderly dog near us left to roam all day. In early winter it was found stuck in the stream, freezing cold. Nearly died. But it’s still left out regularly.

Okbussitout · 27/02/2021 13:51

Yeah it's hard to believe people can be that thick but then there they are in the world!
Just leave it but yanbu to be annoyed she's an idiot.

Sweet666 · 27/02/2021 13:56

You are being kind of evil... losing a dog is heartbreaking and traumatic, you wouldn't say this if someone let their kid out and they went missing. Yes she shouldn't let her dog out like that but SHE HAS LOST HER DOG, have some empathy. She is probably having the worst time of her life at the moment. I can't imagine what she is going through.

FlossieTeacakesFurCoat18 · 27/02/2021 14:02

I have a similar quandry... Not quite the same but a friend of mine lives surrounded by farm land so she lets her dogs just roam around free, "having adventures" as she puts it. Sounds lovely, but one of the dogs recently drowned in an overflowing river. She's heartbroken of course and I wouldn't dream of saying anything but I feel angry that a dog lost its life because its owner failed to supervise it. You can't expect a domesticated animal to take care of itself.

A) its been found, injured because of what am idiot she is B) she is an idiot and I hope they remove the dog from her so it can live with someone who can look after it properly
Witchesbelazy · 27/02/2021 14:03

Why should she have empathy for someone who puts their dog in this position ?

People frequently blame the parents for being negligent if a child gets lost or taken. Can't say I agree with your comment here.

If she didn't let it out to wander on it's own, it wouldn't have been hit by a car Hmm

She's an idiot.

LST · 27/02/2021 14:06

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Maverickess · 27/02/2021 14:07

Yes it's annoying, especially when you try and walk your own dog and it's there at you, or has a go at your dogs through the fence winding them up into a frenzy in their own garden because it won't go away rather than just walking past like other dogs on leads being walked do.
And it's different to a dog escaping from a normally secure garden once and taking themselves off for a walk. My garden has to be very secure because my dog is a bloody escapologist! And more so when the regular dog that wanders the streets is hanging around outside the garden barking at her because she wants to see it off!
So I get your frustration but I agree with your DH about saying nothing, it won't solve anything. There have always been people where I live that have done this because 'the dog likes it' , one got really arsey when her dog was picked up by the dog warden because it was wandering the streets, and was told about keeping it under control.
The only good thing was it seems to happen less than it did when I was a child, maybe because there's been an upsurge in designer dogs and they cost a lot more.
Maybe report to the dog warden on the Qt when you do see it wandering, but really, I think saying anything on her post probably won't go well.

Don’t be so ridiculous. The OP is not *being kind of evil” because she feels angry that a dog, with no road sense, is let out to roam daily and has now been found injured. Are you always so obtuse?

There's a couple of Rottweilers round here who are just let out to roam. They're lovely dogs, always come over for a fuss, God knows how they haven't been stolen by now as they're so friendly and just go up to anyone who looks at them.

It's so irresponsible to just let them wander off unsupervised. And they must scare people sometimes too as they are big dogs.

MrsGradyOldLady · 27/02/2021 14:21

I think it's very sad but why would you even consider berating her on a public forum? You sound "rough" too.

You dont let your children out until you know they are able to keep themselves safe. I would feel just as angry about someone who allowed their 3 year old to roam.

@Shnuffles I don't know her, but you are right. Perhaps she does have limited intelligence. Its a sad lesson she has learnt

@FlossieTeacakesFurCoat18 that poor dog. I hope it didnt suffer

oil0W0lio · 27/02/2021 14:25

I can hardly believe that people just let their dogs out to roam freely in this day and age
How long before we have a feral dog population?
And yes the streets around my way are also smeared with dog excrement ☹️🤨

BritWifeinUSA · 27/02/2021 14:27

Is the dog chipped? Or wearing a collar and tag? If that happened here and they could trace the owner you’d get a hefty vet bill and arrested for animal abandonment.

I am far from rough thank you, and I wasn't going to berate her. The use of the words irresponsible idiot were purely to sound off on here. But I was going to point out that dog theft is rife, and not always to sell the dogs on, that the dog is probably doing its business on the street and that it sounds like it has no road sense ( prior to the message about it being hit by a car)
