To be so annoyed by this idiotic woman posting about her dog on Facebook

Cheeseandlobster · 27/02/2021 13:35

A woman posted on facebook yesterday about her missing dog. Heartbroken etc. Then she says a few posts down " I let him out for half an hour a day and he always comes back. This just isnt like him"

Ffs. So she lets her dog out to shit on the street and to possibly get taken as bait. Another man commented saying he sees the dog everyday and has to wait as it often crosses the road in front of his car. So in a nice way he was saying the dog has no road sense. And then later on there are more posts saying the dog has been clipped by a car and is at the vets

Dp had to stop me posting back yesterday to tell her what an absolute irresponsible idiot she is. We live in a rough area and she is just round the corner so he doesnt want any back lash from her apparently large family. But I cant stop feeling bloody angry at her. My dog is reactive and I worry myself sick taking him out because of all the strays on the streets wandering around without owners because " they are ok for half an hour" Angry

@MrsGradyOldLady

I think it's very sad but why would you even consider berating her on a public forum? You sound "rough" too.
Rough for telling someone they're in the wrong?
peak2021 · 27/02/2021 14:27

I would not respond on FB but contact the RSPCA in case there are other pets in the household that are being neglected.

oil0W0lio · 27/02/2021 14:30

I agree you should contact the RSPCA the police dog warden etc explaining the situation, send screenshots and some video footage if you can
I doubt that there is anything to be gained from engaging with the woman who owns the dog

MrsGradyOldLady · 27/02/2021 14:32

Getting into an argument with neighbours on Facebook is pretty crass. Why would you do that? By all means privately message her pointing out your concerns.

Yes well that would probably have been a better idea in hindsight. Though I didnt do either in the end. As dp pointed out, she has already learnt the hard way sadly

I’m surprised no one has torn a strip off her already. Our local residents’ forum is brutal.

This is a good idea. Would they do anything though if the dog appears nourished etc?

That was one of the main reasons I came off Facebook. It was even worse when we went into lockdown. I think some relationships will never recover. The worst offender was the local pub landlady. There's 5 other better pubs so I think she shot herself in the foot really.

A saying in the animal rescue world is “Educate, don’t alienate” If the dog returns you might offer to give it a free daily walk, and gradually teach her about responsible pet ownership.

Livelovebehappy · 27/02/2021 14:44

I wish there was a way of stopping uneducated idiots having dogs. Maybe a law brought in that you have to have some sort of IQ test before you are allowed to have one.

GreenlandTheMovie · 27/02/2021 14:47

Wow. What an idiot. I have neighbours who used to do this but in the countryside. They insisted they knew where their dogs were at all times and that they didn't go far. Until one was found chasing sheep and on a major road causing traffic chaos in the space of a few weeks. Police were involved and they were lucky not to be charged.

I dont have the time for this. I work very long hours and I have my own dog to walk and look after. I would do it for a friend but I dont know this woman. I think that would probably come across as a bit patronising anyway.

The dog warden is your best bet here. I've had to catch a local dog on our very busy main road three times and take him home to similarly useless owners (who hadn't even noticed he'd gone on two of the three occasions). I rang the dog warden, who went round to have a word with them and also advised me to take the dog to the pound next time I saw him out, in the hope that the fee to reclaim him would be a deterrent. Fortunately the dog warden's visit seems to have done the trick, as we've not seen the dog out since.

MyLittleOrangutan · 27/02/2021 14:59

@Sweet666

You are being kind of evil... losing a dog is heartbreaking and traumatic, you wouldn't say this if someone let their kid out and they went missing. Yes she shouldn't let her dog out like that but SHE HAS LOST HER DOG, have some empathy. She is probably having the worst time of her life at the moment. I can't imagine what she is going through.
  1. If she cared that much she would look after it properly.
  2. I'd be more worried about the dog that is suffering because his owner didn't look after him.

Just like if a young child, incapable of keeping themself safe in the road or around strangers, was left wandering the streets. I wouldn't care about the parent, I'd care about the child who was suffering because of their parents neglect.

It's disgusting that people don't keep their dogs safe but there's no point saying anything, she doesn't think she's doing anything wrong, you wont convince her otherwise.

MyLittleOrangutan · 27/02/2021 15:00

If I saw the dog wandering the streets I'd take it to the dog warden.

SomeRandomerOnBumsnet · 27/02/2021 15:01

She’s a thick lazy chump still living in the 80s. No one lets their dogs take themselves out for a walk anymore since everyone realised it’s shitty behaviour, but steer clear of social media outbursts. Maybe put an anonymous note through her door after dark, cowardly yes, but it you can get everything off your chest with no come back.

user1471457751 · 27/02/2021 15:03

Why the fuck should the OP offer this woman a free dog walking service because she's too selfish and stupid to look after her own dog properly?
OP, I would report this to the rspca and the local dog warden and keep doing that everyone you see the dog out unsupervised. The dog deserves to be kept safe and unfortunately won't be as long as it lives with that idiot

YouWereGr8InLittleMenstruators · 27/02/2021 15:08

WTAF?! Is this even a thing, letting dogs out unsupervised? Who is picking up after them? I can not believe some people. I grew up in a Scandinavian country where universal dog tax meant that all dogs and owners were registered and traceable, and a big deterrent to irresponsible owners.
I am not scared of dogs, but an unsupervised dog, doing its own thing without an owner in sight would make me stand back. I get so sad seeing 'friendly' dogs off their leads in popular woodlands and parklands around here, scampering up to playing children, some of whom are really fearful of dogs. The dog means no harm, and neither does their owner, but the young person approached by the dog freezes and panics until a responsible adult is able to intervene and the owner catches up.

oil0W0lio · 27/02/2021 15:08

Is she just thick and lazy or is she someone with a learning disability🤔
I'm finding it hard to believe that anyone thinks that's a normal or ok way to keep a dog!

oil0W0lio · 27/02/2021 15:09

someone with a learning disability might think that letting the dog out on its own it is the solution to not wanting to deal with dog poop 🤔

Disressingtimes · 27/02/2021 15:11

RSPCA won’t do anything but if you take to reporting ‘a dog roaming around with no sign of its owner’ to the local dog warden every time you see it they may do something.

I'd be expecting someone to be arrested if they did this to a child with the iq of a dog tbh
Tal45 · 27/02/2021 15:14

One dog round here that was constantly escaping because it wasn't walked was shot by farmers after worrying sheep several times, another house had the police round because their dog was attacking lambs. Some people are totally irresponsible and really shouldn't own dogs.

LittleMimi · 27/02/2021 15:14

I’m surprised no one in the comments has been blunt with her. That usually happens in the online world. Although it can be cruel it can also cause people to realise things aren’t acceptable. She could just be ignorant. Maybe that’s what her parents or friends do.

Though I wasn’t even aware that people just let their dogs out to roam around. Maybe I’ve just been blind to it.

murbblurb · 27/02/2021 15:14

You won't be able to educate someone this arrogant. She is literate and has internet access. She just has a trophy dog and can't be bothered to do the associated work. Can only hope that when the animal is struck by a car, it dies quickly and no human is hurt.
