To be so annoyed by this idiotic woman posting about her dog on Facebook

Cheeseandlobster · 27/02/2021 13:35

A woman posted on facebook yesterday about her missing dog. Heartbroken etc. Then she says a few posts down " I let him out for half an hour a day and he always comes back. This just isnt like him"

Ffs. So she lets her dog out to shit on the street and to possibly get taken as bait. Another man commented saying he sees the dog everyday and has to wait as it often crosses the road in front of his car. So in a nice way he was saying the dog has no road sense. And then later on there are more posts saying the dog has been clipped by a car and is at the vets

Dp had to stop me posting back yesterday to tell her what an absolute irresponsible idiot she is. We live in a rough area and she is just round the corner so he doesnt want any back lash from her apparently large family. But I cant stop feeling bloody angry at her. My dog is reactive and I worry myself sick taking him out because of all the strays on the streets wandering around without owners because " they are ok for half an hour" Angry

There's a real problem where I am with wandering dogs, even when they've been picked up by the warden and had to pay to get them back they still do it. And if anyone dares say anything they get an earful, similar big local family scenario.

The odd time my terrier as squeezed out my supposed dog proof garden I realise within minutes and I'm straight out frantically looking for him, how people can just let their pets wander is beyond me, my cat doesn't even go out as we're on a busy road and I'd be terrified!

Ponoka7 · 27/02/2021 15:21

@Livelovebehappy, there's a difference between uneducated and ignorant and having a low IQ. My DD via her LD's has a low IQ but is a responsibile pet owner. She works etc. People who have LD's can make really good parents and pet owners, just like the rest of society. It's very insulting to suggest IQ testing for certain rights, in fact we are right back there at the start of nazi propaganda. What other rights would you like removed? People who have LD's have to fight still for benefits and health care, perhaps we are doing them a favour if we reopen the institutions and they live a half life.

Gerla · 27/02/2021 15:21

That's idiotic behaviour but I agree with not getting into an argument - she won't change her mind anyway. A woman near me lets out her two dogs like this and they are a PITA. One ran into the road and caused an accident. She has been warned by police but still does it.

Jackie2022 · 27/02/2021 15:23

You’re absolutely in the wrong for not posting a screenshot!! (With names redacted ofc) the comments sound hilarious

ScrambledSmegs · 27/02/2021 15:24

There's been a spate of dog thefts in my area recently, all breeds (including Heinz) and ages. Some have been stolen from homes, gardens and locked cars. There have been stories about people trying to entice off-lead dogs away from their owners and into cars but I don't know whether that's true or imagination run wild.

She is extremely lucky (as is the dog) that it hasn't been taken by someone unscrupulous. She's an irresponsible idiot.

@YouWereGr8InLittleMenstruators

WTAF?! Is this even a thing, letting dogs out unsupervised? Who is picking up after them? I can not believe some people. I grew up in a Scandinavian country where universal dog tax meant that all dogs and owners were registered and traceable, and a big deterrent to irresponsible owners. I am not scared of dogs, but an unsupervised dog, doing its own thing without an owner in sight would make me stand back. I get so sad seeing 'friendly' dogs off their leads in popular woodlands and parklands around here, scampering up to playing children, some of whom are really fearful of dogs. The dog means no harm, and neither does their owner, but the young person approached by the dog freezes and panics until a responsible adult is able to intervene and the owner catches up.
You don't have to be scared to freeze when an unfamiliar dog approaches - it's a sensible thing to do, not to move, so that you don't end up being knocked over, leapt up at, chased of otherwise reacted to. Usually in the nearest park, that means the dog gets a chance to have a good old sniff of me without my startling him (and it is usually a him).
AnitaB888 · 27/02/2021 15:50

I used to live near an area of what seemed like irresponsible dog owners.
Every morning going to work the traffic had to stop for a pack of dogs (at least 12) using the zebra crossing on the main road to get to a park.
Every night about 5.00pm the same dogs crossed back. (Holding up the traffic again)

It would appear that the owners let them out and ignored them all day. It makes you wonder why they had a dog in the first place.

That was 20 years ago and I thought we'd moved on from that - apparently not. Hmm

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/02/2021 15:50

Can't believe anyone would post on here having a go at OP.

I came off my local lost pets FB group, there were too many idiots on it who knew nothing about responsible dog ownership but made themselves out to be animal lovers.

OurChristmasMiracle · 27/02/2021 15:53

It’s Damn irresponsible to let a dog out to roam around for half hour. Not only (as it clearly has) could it be hit by a car but it could also cause a major accident too. Poor dog 🐶 I hope the dog is okay and finds someone who will be bothered to actually take it for a proper walk rather than just let it wander.

Joinedjustforthispost · 27/02/2021 15:54

Some people are idiots and shouldn’t own pets , yanbu!

Devlesko · 27/02/2021 15:59

Only the same as people letting cats out to shit in others gardens. I doubt the dog was doing this, they are much cleaner than rodent cats Grin
But all pet owners should be accompanying their animals outside or not have them.

mam0918 · 27/02/2021 16:14

If your in the UK its illegal to do this.

Dogs (unlike cats which are classed as semi wild) are classed as 'dangerous domestic' animals and the feces is classed and an 'eniviromental hazzard' so by law they need to be within the control of a person and cleaned up after.

You can report the owner either to the police or the RSPCA and if the dog caused and accident she can be sued too by the driver as she caused a road accident by not having control of her animal.

She will also get a big vet bill.

I hope the dog is ok and makes a good recovery and if you report it and they get taken hopefully they'll get to live the remaineder of their life with new responsible owners.

Are there many sheep attacked by cats around your way then?
ItsDinah · 27/02/2021 16:19

Time to introduce dog-owner licensing for anyone who takes or allows a dog off their own property. Owners should be required to take a test to prove they are fit to care for the dog and a vet's certificate should be required as should proof of insurance to cover owners liability for any harm or damage caused by their dogs. YANBU to be annoyed by the woman but agree with your husband about keeping out of it.

ClarkeGriffin · 27/02/2021 16:24

@Sweet666

You are being kind of evil... losing a dog is heartbreaking and traumatic, you wouldn't say this if someone let their kid out and they went missing. Yes she shouldn't let her dog out like that but SHE HAS LOST HER DOG, have some empathy. She is probably having the worst time of her life at the moment. I can't imagine what she is going through.
Are you the owner? Either way you're wrong. She shouldn't be letting her dog loose on the streets. It is entirely her own fault if it gets lost, stolen, injured or killed. No one else's. Just hers. Can't feel empathy for someone who does that, they have caused this to happen to an innocent animal. I feel sorry for the animal, but definitely not her.
BearEastie · 27/02/2021 16:29

No but there's far more cat injuries in our HDU then dog injuries each year.

What?
BigHandsomeBeast · 27/02/2021 20:07

I would screenshot the convo and email it to the council fao the dog warden advising it is often seen roaming and causing / at risk from traffic. They will charge her every time they pick the poor thing up and she will hopefully get the message.

Rowofducks · 28/02/2021 07:24

This makes me so angry. A family near me let their pack of Jack Russells run around the estate. The flats they live in have gardens with picket fences for each resident. One day the dogs jumped the fences and killed a little girls rabbit while she was feeding it in its cage. When the parents approached the owner they just laughed about it and couldn’t see the problem as that’s what dogs do Angry

That is horrific. That poor little girl. The same thing happenned to me when I was a child. Teenage lads came into our garden and set their dog onto our rabbit in its run. Luckily the guinea pig survived as it hid under a cardboard box that had fallen down a bit in wet weather. I was devestated and my mum pretended she hadnt seen it and said nothingAngry. But thats for a whole different thread
