What are your opinions?

I feel that her dual heritage has been used against her, to push her towards Bangladesh.

However, I do feel she is a threat to the general public and it would be incredibly difficult to control/monitor her actions. Which may put the rest of the population at risk.

This is just an open debate. Let’s try not to rip each other apart, more of a healthy debate

It sure would be nice to have a magical card that gives me more privileges than afforded to white people such as the right to be stripped of my only citizenship from my country of birth and left stateless

You’re a terrorist then?

kirinm · 27/02/2021 15:09

Do people accept a 15 year old can be groomed by a paedophile? If so, why is it so hard to believe she can be groomed by extremists?

Belladonna12 · 27/02/2021 15:11

@Thewithesarehere

they shouldn't have been brought back either. So you are happy to export terrorism then?
We didn't "export" them. They left and committed terrorism elsewhere. It is right that they are prosecuted in the countries where they committed the crime.
Penners99 · 27/02/2021 15:15

I cheered at the Supreme Courts ruling. Finally putting the good of the UK in first place and, rightfully, keeping us safe from a warped ideology.

Thewithesarehere · 27/02/2021 15:19

@Belladonna12
When no country is taking her and there are no courts in a country as ravaged as Syria, leaving a terrorist out there when she could be brought back to put in jail is exporting terrorism, no matter how you twist it.
She is born and bred British. Our mess, our responsibility.

Thewithesarehere · 27/02/2021 15:21

Also, if Syria does not have the means or the system to try her there and she could return here like hudrends of others, it becomes our responsibility.
Or if Syria says they will simply give her a couple of years’ suspended sentence and she is free to leave after that, she can’t come back if she has nowhere to go. That is export of terrorism no matter how you twist it.

A British terrorist.
SuperSimple · 27/02/2021 15:23

It's not about race Danny. The same issue could be concerning someone who had Australian parents but was born here for example.

A warped ideology for sure. One that radicalises young people.

Refusing to deal with our own citizens is not going to help keep the world safe - or is it just English people living in England that you care about?

ThatsnotmyBorishishairistoneat · 27/02/2021 15:23

Mixed feelings. I think the uk government a probably right to use her as an example though.

There have been some deeply racist undertones on this thread. Regardless, terrorism and the cost it deal with it is our responsibility. we didn’t stop them when they were leaving in droves. Now Syria is run down with them, can’t fight back and put them in jail or have even a semblance of justice system, and they are expected to clean our mess too. It’s deeply upsetting.
SmileEachDay · 27/02/2021 15:27

They’re not even undertones. It’s overt. And you’re right re Syria.

SuperSimple · 27/02/2021 15:27

Shamima is the one who is fighting to return to the UK. Syria is not begging us to take her back.

woodhill · 27/02/2021 15:28

How could we have stopped them leaving e.g. the adults.

Some of them want to have their cake and eat it as far as I'm concerned

It could but it’s not. Until your could actually happens (to someone with white Australian parents but who is born here and has no other citizenship other than British), then it’s about race.
SuperSimple · 27/02/2021 15:29

Can you quote the racist posts so we can report them?

Elcantador · 27/02/2021 15:29

@pinkstripeycat

Those of you who think she should come back and “be cared for” tell that to all those families with loved ones killed by terrorists.
You mean those Kurds who were targeted and murdered by ISIS? Tell thri families that she is their problem? Because by washing our hands off her we force Syria to care for her. They are trying to recover from a decade long civil war and you think it is ok to force our UK born UK grown terrorists on them? How is that fair on them?

I did and it got deleted.

Some of them

them what exactly?

SmileEachDay · 27/02/2021 15:31

Have a look yourself Super. I’m sure you can identify racism.

No, Shamima is. She’s a British terrorist who should be treated the same way as white British terrorists and criminals (with her citizenship recognised and her crimes dealt with by the U.K. justice system).

How do you catch terrorists really? Confused
SuperSimple · 27/02/2021 15:32

It's about race just because you say so?
I thought it was about not allowing someone, who happens to have a descendant based claim to another state citizenship, back into the country when they pose such a serious threat to national security .

But your argument is, its because she's brown?

SuperSimple · 27/02/2021 15:33

Apparently I can't.

Jack Letts was not Canadian. His father was Canadian thus he was entitled to Canadian citizenship. This is about her actions, her participation in abuse of local women and her clear lack of remorse. Those making this about racism or grooming are far off the mark and are cheapening both those concepts. 15 is legally a child but beyond the age of criminal responsibility. If you seek out the company of extremists, that is a choice. If you see their actions and still seek out their company, that is a choice. If you choose to move to another country in order to participate in their crimes, again that is a choice. As a teacher, I did raise radicalisation as a safeguarding issue on one occasion. It was acted on. Without further details, I would consider that case grooming. There is a reason we don’t use grooming as an excuse for the crimes of a 15 year old generally though. I do wonder why as a female she seems to elicit so much more sympathy than young males who have followed a similar path. Jack Letts treatment was equivalent. It is not a race issue.
