i’ve used MN for years, and i often think about particular threads or posters that stuck out to me or i interacted with ages ago that i haven’t been able to find (or just seemed to stop posting without a trace) since then.

anyone else get strangely nostalgic/curious thinking back to threads/posters and wonder what became of them?

Oh, no, lets not name posters we think are trolls, that would just be an invitation to have the thread taken down and really unfair to the OP

@MrsJackRackham yes that's her , I seem to remember her being banned too now that you've said that . God knows why she was a regular contributor and lifted the mood

There was one a few years ago who’s DH cheated on her, I remember the OW was joked as ‘wank fodder’. I think she had twins? Can’t remember. Anyway quite a few threads & really felt for her. Hope she’s happy now!

Also remember ESD.

I was hooked on one where the OP had accidentally broken her PILs wineglass and the cost to replace it was ridiculous. I don't know if it was a troll, but I often think about it.

There was a happier one in which the OP was having a flirtation with a lovely rumpled man at work. She wasn’t sure if they were just friends or were edging their way towards something more. I just lurked on the thread but I think she started to get a bit freaked out by just his inverted people were and decided to stop updating. I’d live to know if they actually got together - I like to they had a happy ever after 😀

And the one where the OP lived in a protected building but the neighbours had torn windows out to make a door or something. Maybe they were trying to lay claim on her garden? They were going to get into trouble with the heritage people. I occasionally wonder how that got resolved.

I think about one that was going for quite a while last year (can't remember the username) which was a woman in New Zealand I think who felt she had been conned into agreeing to emigrate by her husband. He lied about being given a share of the family business and she felt trapped and unable to bring the kids home.

The one that stayed with me was just last year I think, the OP's husband would watch her in the shower and undressing etc and anally raped her in the family bathroom as she was being sick after coming home drunk/potentially spiked after a girls night out.

I so hope she got out and reported the absolute piece of shit.

@unmarkedbythat the one with the person posting a picture of the hotel bedroom as hers - this wasn't on the thread about 'show us a picture of your bedroom' was it? If so that was obviously a joke , and more than one poster did this . Someone had a picture of a hotel room with the brochure on the table, another poster took hers from a house on right move.

Mines quite a recent one it was a lady who's username i think was Wardrobes or something like that. Her DH was unwell with covid, then into ICU and he was getting quite unwell and i lost the thread after that. I've often wondered how he is and how she is coping.

That thread is still going, if you search Wardrobes DH ICU it'll probably come up. There was a slightly more positive update earlier this week.

I read that one last night she updated a few days ago saying she was still waiting for news inher husband

Only recent but the one where OP had posted because she was pregnant after many miscarriages and was convinced it was all going to go wrong, then continued to update as her pregnancy went along and then when she finally had her baby the nicest one I've read here. Everyone was so lovely and cheering her on. MN at its loveliest.

The posters who have lost people, especially children. They lodge in my stomach for days.

Does anyone remember a teenage pregnancy poster called something like Katy Cat from a couple of years ago? I vaguely know her through a friend of a friend of a friend and I believe she was banned from here for being a suspected troll. If anyone does remember her and wondered what happened I just wanted to say she was genuine.

There was a poster in coronavirus called cute kittens or something similar who used to come on the threads repeatedly and say that her mental health wouldn’t survive another lockdown - I hope she’s okay

Yes I think she was called kittensarecute? I was thinking of her the other day and wondering if she is okay.

There was a thread many years ago where a young woman with a baby wasn't allowed to go outside by her abusive boyfriend. She got a lot of support from us posters on that thread and was finally able to leave the situation. The boyfriend's reaction was to pretend to commit suicide. I think about her sometimes and hope she and her son are doing well!

I also wonder how Dittany is doing and hope she is well.

One post that stood out for me was when I first started coming on here. A poster posted about their child who had some huge bruises on them for no known reason. My first thought was leukaemia and then the posted said it was that. Then, after a few more pages, they disappeared and turns out they were a troll. I was really upset at the thought that a child was so ill, and then that we were all lied to.

i’m not sure if i’m thinking of the same one but one of my most vividly-remembered threads was similar to this. the poster’s young son had bruises, then developed a fever and rash, and ended up hospitalised and having leukaemia - this all happened extremely fast (which i know it definitely CAN - but this was like, implausibly fast) and we were being updated in real time. it went on for quite a few threads, people were getting their DC to make cards for the poster’s son, i think some might even have sent money? basically it was a Big Thing.

MNHQ then came onto the thread and revealed it wasn’t just a troll but a PBP too. i know trolls are a (sadly) regular occurrence online and by using MN we have to be not too trustworthy, but it was still one that sticks out as really shocking to me. a lot of posters actually admitted they’d had suspicions because it turned out a lot of the medical lingo they were using wasn’t quite right, and things like that.

personally i never suspected anything off about it, particularly as (and this is the most chilling thing about it for me) OP ended up sharing lots and lots of photos of her and her ‘son’. they were photos that were obviously of some young woman and her kid, and the kid in hospital - but they weren’t image traceable, meaning they must’ve come from someone’s personal facebook or something. i found that part really really chilling

One where the op had 2 kids and a nanny, fiance had 2 kids and a 1 bed flat.
She was working all hours and fiance wouldnt look after the kids so he was in the house with the kids and the nanny.
Fiance started getting funny because op and her ex were planning to send her 2 to private school which fiance couldn't afford for his kids, he might have been moaning about bedroom allocations also even though it was op paying for everything.
Loads of people told her not to marry him but she seemed quite adamant.
It was a really silly thing to do but I wonder if she went ahead and how it worked out.

Another one where the poster had 2 and then 3 little boys with an absolute useless arsehole bloke who had an older daughter.
She was fed up of being put on wrt the step daughter and got some stick from other posters for wanting to prioritise her own kids. She had a dh problem rather than a step kid/ex problem but couldn't seem to see it.
Think her name was 3littlefrogs or something similar.

I seem to remember a poster called PhyllisNights. She used to post around 6-7 yrs ago. I don't know if she name changed or just stopped posting. Her posts always seemed a bit bonkers but funny. The last time I remember her posting was when she was pregnant and quite close to her due date. Does anyone remember her?

I often wonder if the Sistine Chapel lady had a chance to visit any other famous places and get even more emotional
