i’ve used MN for years, and i often think about particular threads or posters that stuck out to me or i interacted with ages ago that i haven’t been able to find (or just seemed to stop posting without a trace) since then.

anyone else get strangely nostalgic/curious thinking back to threads/posters and wonder what became of them?

My husband doesn't know i use Mumsnet. He's probably never heard of it. I wonder how many were not true.

NanuNanuM · 02/03/2021 23:16

I wonder about the mother who had 2 daughters. One daughter had a medical issue where her skin changed drastic colour (2005 time) and was baffling the medics.

Also a mother whose daughter suffered severe life changing burns at a family BBQ. Her marriage later ended and she was utterly solid for her children. I hope she's doing OK.

NanuNanuM · 02/03/2021 23:17

And I think of FluffyDressingGown. She was just lovely. I hope her partner is OK.

RobBeckettsTeeth · 02/03/2021 23:25

@Turfaccountant

The one whose neighbour would blame her for puddles on the said neighbours patio. Escalated to police involvement etc but seems to have ended
Haven't RTFT but it was deleted as a troll. I was so invested in that one too...gutting

@Elderflower14, how lovely to hear from you!
I'm so sorry you lost Bumbledog, but what a long way your lovely Wilf has come.
You are a wonderful mum, and Wilf is lucky to have you. Thanks

she was the loveliest soul; even up until her last posts she still oozed compassion and kindness to others despite the pain she must’ve been in :(

@Elderflower14 is Wilf a big fan of Martin Freeman? Because if so I know him from FB too...

Yes. That was Wilf. He really enjoyed teaching Martin how to sign film!!

@NeverDropYourMoonCup

She asked about how disability affected people and got ripped into on one £ site because it was decided she was clearly asking for information to flesh out a claim for DLA. Absolutely torn to pieces, doxxed repeatedly, followed from site to site and.people claimed they'd tracked her down and notified the DSS of her fraud.
What the hell? The people who did that need locking up, that’s frightening behaviour. @Elderflower14

sorry about bumbledog, best wishes to you and Wilf.

Aw I wondered how Wilf was getting on. He has grown up to be a fabulous young man - and a credit to you Lottie. Sorry about Bumbledog. Xx

The ones where people go on and on and forget what they have said in previous posts and get caught out. Contrary people. Why do they do it.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 03/03/2021 11:46

The thread that really upset me and I thought about for days was the one where the poster's child had fallen from the top bunk and later died. The thread was closed or deleted. I remember feeling shocked by it.

I didn’t see that thread but that is absolutely tragic Sad How old was their child?

AlternativePerspective · 03/03/2021 11:54

Tbh as soon as a husband comes on to announce a poster’s death I immediately think that the poster was never real in the first place. Even the seemingly most lovely posters. if they’ve never met anyone etc there is literally no way of knowing whether what they say is real.

YouAintKingDingALing · 03/03/2021 12:11

@Elderflower14 so cool to see Wilf. He's a man now! I remember him when he was much younger. I'm pleased he's doing well, he looks so confident. You must be v proud of him.

I'm quite envious of him being with Martin Freeman (I can think of a number of things I'd love to show Martin!) Grin

OhCaptain · 03/03/2021 12:15

Who was the poster who’s child was so beautiful that strangers used to be rendered speechless by him.

She dressed him like a Victorian and dragged him around on an antique hobby horse or some shite!

She was hilarious.

BIWI · 03/03/2021 12:20

... and most likely a troll.

No doubt she was a troll. She was still funny though and I can’t imagine anyone would have been dim enough to think she was legit!
BIWI · 03/03/2021 12:27

But sadly, @OhCaptain, you only have to read this thread to realise just how many people do get sucked in by even the most obvious trolls!

greeneyedlulu · 03/03/2021 12:30

There was one i read where the poster's friend believed her partner was a spy and that's why he was away lot, they had a kid together but she seemed to happily accept he was a spy. Poster believed he actually had another family elsewhere! Always wonder about that one when daydreaming whilst washing up.

I suppose I just thought that poster was so obviously on a wind up with her outlandish posts. She wasn’t being an emotional vampire or anything. I did genuinely think she only posted for comedic value so I didn’t see any harm in it, IYSWIM!

That’s similar to the poster who had loads of police turn up for her DH but she didn’t know where he was or where he worked and had no way of contacting him. So, so weird.
BronwenFrideswide · 03/03/2021 12:39

Bit hazy but there was a thread last year which had a link to a newspaper article about a couple whose house had some construction problems (I think), the woman had inherited the house (I think), house insurance wasn't paid/renewed/invalid they had to leave their pets at the house, couldn't find/afford a rental property, the problems were exacerbated by Covid Lockdown. Think the thread may have been asking for help for them. Wonder if they ever managed to sort themselves out.

Mrsfrumble · 03/03/2021 13:35

@Elderflower14 what a beautiful, dazzling smile Wilf has! I remember your threads from when I first joined MN in 2010 when I was pregnant with DS.

I’m thankful for all the posters from around that period who posted so honestly and informatively about raising children with SN. I learned so much just from lurking on random threads that when DS was diagnosed a few years ago, I felt much less intimidated than I would have done without all their knowledge and experience.
