to ask if you ever wonder about certain posters/threads?

i’ve used MN for years, and i often think about particular threads or posters that stuck out to me or i interacted with ages ago that i haven’t been able to find (or just seemed to stop posting without a trace) since then.

anyone else get strangely nostalgic/curious thinking back to threads/posters and wonder what became of them?

I wonder about one poster who posted a few months ago (can't remember her name) who got absolutely piled on by the dog obsessed freaks.

She was on maternity leave and her OH had an old dog (about 13yo) who he had before he met her. The dog constantly barked, needed long walks, would shit and piss all over the house and was really not fit or safe to be around the baby. She was expected to look after it all day, cleaning up its defection, as well as looking after the baby and Every time she put her son down for a nap the barking dog would wake him up. It was getting to the point where she was considering moving in with her mum because she enjoyed being with her baby, the stress of looking after this PITA dog and constantly cleaning up shit and keeping her away from the baby was making her ill. Her OH worked long hours and just expected her to do everything.

She got called (and this is the shortlist) by posters:
A dog hater
A wannabe dog killer "you obviously want the dog to die"
An animal abuser (despite walking the dog 3 times a day, feeding it, cleaning its shit etc)
Vile
Evil
A shit wife ("your poor poor husband")
Nasty
The worst kind of person
A cunt (yes, really)

She also got told "it's the dog's house, not yours, she was there first so yea maybe you should leave". She also got told "you clearly have PND" - she stated she didn't at all, she just couldn't cope with the dog anymore.

It was a bloodbath, me and another poster were calling out the pricks but eventually it got taken down. I often wonder how she is now. It was the worst case of a MN pile-on I'd ever seen.

There was also a poster who's husband worked from home full time (this was pre-covid) and she had to tiptoe everywhere so he could have quiet. She was scared to open the fridge as it made a noise and he went mental. Hope she is ok now

I wonder what happened to the lady who was married to ‘Sid’ (he looked like Sid James, she said) and his OW lived next door. The lady was stuck living there because the house was joined to Sid’s family business workshop. I would absolutely love to know that she and her dogs have an amazing life now Flowers

I also wonder about the woman in New Zealand. Witchesandwizards maybe? It went on a while and then went quiet so now I don’t know if maybe it wasn’t real. Or she got found out. And also the woman with 6 kids who sounded so so terrified of her husband. She stopped posting and only responded to PMs which I don’t do.

I would not have had time for that! I hope she was able to persuade her husband to change jobs or to wear noise cancelling headphones!

AuntieMabelandPippin - I remember TrickyTreeLou whose DH left suddenly, clearing out all his stuff and even taking the chutney - he was then known as Chunt. He managed to get Lou and the OW pregnant at the same time. I hope Lou and her DS are doing well.
She and her boy were doing well, something happened to make her stop posting on here, and I really miss her updates. I think of her often and hope she's happy.

I remember that thread! It was awful. Absolute car crash. I mean, I love dogs but this thread took the (dog) biscuit. Poor woman. I have noticed dogs seem to be a divisive issue on here. I don't understand why, really. I'm a dog lover but I am in complete agreement with posters who are annoyed by dogs not being on a lead where they should, dogs jumping up at strangers, dogs barking incessantly, owners not clearing up their poo, puppy mills ect. There can surely be a middle ground where our canine friends are concerned.

Three stick out in my mind:
Bindersarmy: binders found an old picture of her dh's ex and realised the couch in the picture was more recent than the ex was supposed to be..
Chester zoo: cm told the op they'd been to the zoo as planned but dc said they hadn't... I'm afraid I think I might have missed a deletion message on that
Third one is the op discovered her dh was getting up at 2am and going somewhere in his car, regularly, she was going to try and work it out.

I wonder about a man from a few years ago whose wife was horribly controlling, she was a nurse I think and had OCD. Constant cleaning and hand washing and berating him. He sounded really scared.
I think he was planning to leave with their son but then he went quiet.
I hope he is ok.

Oh and NoCapes! Is she still around?
Last I saw was when she had gotten into a relationship with her builder/plumber and had just found out she was pregnant with baby number 4 I think.
I hope everything worked out for her!

I often think about the lady with the fish tank husband. It sounded so awful and I often think of her.

I think and pray for the woman in New Zealand and hope she is ok. My ex was abusive but that’s nothing to being a foreign country being abused by an entire family and the dread of how the next 20 years pans out or your entire life if the children won’t come back to the U.K. as adults.

Another one was called sycamore trees or something and was pregnant and ex husband had cheated. She was having a baby and was a barrister I think - I often think of her.

If anyone knows any of those women and can update I would really appreciate it as I do catch myself thinking about them and hoping they are all ok.

I often think of running in the rain as well and hope she is ok.

Fish tank guy sounds like maybe was in the beginning of a psychotic break. How awful for him and the rest of them.

I'm glad someone mentioned RedStripeLassie - such a deluded and battered down young mum with 2 kids and a druggie waster of a DH. She wouldn't ever listen that he was dragging her down. She did appear for a while as Cocodemoll or something but was very quickly recognised as "oh god are you that poster.........".

I really hope she's got herself and those kids away from him and his family. Her poor DD didn't even have a winter coat but her DH had his weed.

I believe Lou still posts on MN, though she has name changed. She seems like a truly lovely person, definitely not a troll.

However, many of the others mentioned here were trolls (the Sid and Nancy person, the Chester zoo OP, etc.).

@SleepingBeaut thanks for updating on Hedgehog. That’s brilliant to hear she’s doing so well now. Good for her! I remember she used to get some good support on here, but also some harsh “pull yourself up by your bootstraps woman!” pile-ons from posters refusing to acknowledge her difficult circumstances.

Also there was one that was recently recommended from a while ago about a kid wanting to take a super soaker to another child's birthday party - it was the classic MN thread where op doesn't really want to take any advice but it was a lot kinder and more supportive than some I have seen
I think one of the first threads I read about five years ago was a very tame but funny thread about a child being told off for picking a flower from someone's garden and one poster said 'it's the daffodil I feel sorry for' or words to that effect

Another poster josie she got an absolute trashing, she was an alcoholic, I'd passed her on a few threads previously she'd a negative experience with the Samaritans on a call she had a few drinks on her and was feeling worthless, she mentioned Irish in her OP, the thread raged of her accusing the Irish of being alcoholics, she has half Irish afaik. The thread got deleted.
I searched for her a few times afterwards she was suicidal. Who knows how she is.
