AIBU to think that Prince Harry is coming across as the most tone deaf and hypocritical member of the RF right now?

Yes the guy lost his mother in a tragic way at a young age. (So have many) Yes he was forced out into the public eye in the middle of grief (which was horrific at the time and worse on reflection) BUT he is now an adult man with a family and access to life of extreme privilege yet he cannot seem to realise that him publically complaining about his lot in life and telling the rest of us how to behave is distasteful. Also, the petulant way he seems to communicate with the media is just undelining his immaturity and lack of awareness. By which I mean, the potshots in statements and rapping with James Corden and his pathetic man of the people schtick. If you want to be Hazzer give up your title and STFU!

And I stand by the rest of my earlier post. It is the height of entitlement to think that by dint of marriage , she is now someone of great importance who we must revere.

I would be happy to listen to established, experienced people in their field on important topics but I don't really want to listen to podcasts on motherhood or child welfare from someone who used to be a soap opera and married into a wealthy family. And I think ramming it down everyone's throats is what pisses people off

OhWhyNot · 26/02/2021 12:48

I never said everyone made racist comments or made comments about their child

I mentioned two threads that I was aware of there was probably more

Why do you think so many threads (and they nearly all do) get pulled because their PR is watching MN or because they get nasty and MN has to pull them and then comments how they are not inline with the spirit of MN Or something to that effect

justab0utsurviving · 26/02/2021 12:50

@Roussette there were like 120 threads in Trump and he was torn to shreds in every one. No one jumped in to defend him.

I haven't really seen any nasty comments anywhere to to be honest - but people are entitled to an opinion.

Who says?
To me, it's a case of listening to what she says if you want. Or ignoring it if you want.

I don't revere her. I might idly listen to something she says or does but that's about it.
Where is she ramming it down your throat?

There's lots of famous people, celebrity types, pontificating about all sorts of stuff. I don't listen to it if I don't want to.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 26/02/2021 12:53

And as for when Meghan read her son a bedtime story for charity and shock horror he had a nappy on!

I saw a lot of criticism that his nappy was full. I used the modern, cloth variety and it was obvious to me he was wearing one of these. They're bulkier than disposables.

Aside from which, it's unbelievable the extent to which people care, and will find the most minuscule of detail to pick over like vultures at a carcass. I consider myself reasonably robust emotionally but if this were my life being dissected on an almost constant basis I'd have hightailed it to California, too.

Who could take that kind of relentless, vicious scrutiny? I know I couldn't.

Runwithtorches · 26/02/2021 12:53

To be fair to MM - BEFORE she met Harry - she was speaking at the UN on women's issues and she also worked with the youth empowerment nonprofit One Young World, the UN's Women’s Political Participation and Leadership initiative, and the humanitarian organization World Vision, which is pretty good going.

LuaDipa · 26/02/2021 12:54

@PicsInRed

Prince Harry married a Black woman.

People racists who like to think they're not got angry.

The end.

Yep.

If you dislike him so much why follow and comment on his every move? I quite admire H&M and hope they are very happy in their new life, but I hadn’t even heard of the Corden thing. The only place I encounter a level of coverage on them is on Mumsnet. Just leave them be.

Devlesko · 26/02/2021 12:54

When was he singing, I missed this.
We can't all have good pitch.

justab0utsurviving · 26/02/2021 12:56

@Roussette and I equally think they are not worth listening to but nor did George clooney get a £130m deal to tell us all about his thoughts and ideas. Plus I do have respect for celebrities like GEorge Clooney as he actually goes out there and protests stuff , gets involved . He doesn't pontificate from his sofa for £££££

I would actually prefer a George clooney Netflix deal and here from his wife

TheKeatingFive · 26/02/2021 12:56

You’d have to be shockingly naive to not realise that famous names attract attention and then consumption. ‘‘Twas always thus.

It’s Netflix you have an issue with.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 26/02/2021 12:56

I mentioned two threads that I was aware of there was probably more

Two threads out of hundreds. What is the relevance of that today, on this thread?

Abraxan · 26/02/2021 12:57

It's not even trending on my Twitter account or anything either. Well it's trending on mine right now.

Guess Twitter trending may well depend on your individual Twitter usage etc.

Still not showing in mine.

Roussette · 26/02/2021 12:58

This is wheeled out Every. Single. Time.

Everything Trump did or does affected the world. From pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord, to alienating NATO allies, to Middle East Actions, to inhumane immigration policies, to opening up land for drilling, to allowing big game hunting trophies to be imported in to the US again, to his actions on Covid...
I could go on...

Rather different to H&M surely?

PinkyParrot · 26/02/2021 12:58

The RF must be praying for things to get back to normal - all the usual celebs are locked down so they are getting a crazy amount of coverage, mostly for doing v little.

justab0utsurviving · 26/02/2021 12:59

@TheKeatingFive but they aren't famous for doing anything. I would have more respect if she went back into acting and was in a movie. And I get that big names draw a crowd but it is their lack of humility that they actually believe that they have something to say that is worth listening to.

justab0utsurviving · 26/02/2021 13:01

@Roussette but Trump is still a person and people were viscous. Arguably you could say that despite what he did , he shouldn't be treated like that because that is what keeps the viscous circle of hate between tbe left and the right especially in the US

HelloToMyKitty · 26/02/2021 13:06

Can’t wait to see the threads on Sleepy Joe then! Don’t you know we just struck Syria and still have kids in cages on the border? 😎🍦

They are public figures. We can ridicule them all we like. Stop being precious

TheKeatingFive · 26/02/2021 13:06

but they aren't famous for doing anything.

Neither are plenty of people who get a platform

but it is their lack of humility that they actually believe that they have something to say that is worth listening to

They all think that. All the celebs publishing books on parenthood, diet, fitness, well being. It’s absolutely par for the course.

Roussette · 26/02/2021 13:07

I'm really not sure how to answer you on this without deraiing the thread. Trump's actions affect the whole of the world. H&M's don't.

I would have more respect if she went back into acting and was in a movie

Hahahaha... can you even begin to imagine the vitriol that would be levelled at Meghan Markle if she were to do a movie. It would be no holds barred vile criticism on and on. Every facial expression, every thing she wore in the film, her acting capabiities would be torn to shreds, her chasing after money to do a film, etc. She is called an awful mother on here for the nappy and vest her son wore, how she wasn't reading the book properly, how Archie was ignoring her, and how she carried him in a papoose, it was dangerous, so her acting in a film would be a complete field day for those that hate.

Roussette · 26/02/2021 13:09

hellotomykitty I am not going to turn this thread into a US politics thread.

They are public figures. We can ridicule them all we like. Stop being precious
No idea who you are talking about. H&M? if so, just crack on, it says more about you than you probably realise.

justab0utsurviving · 26/02/2021 13:11

@TheKeatingFive you can't see a difference between someone who was born into the royal family exploiting that? He had about £25 million in inheritance. Easily could have bought a house and lived off that money for the rest of his life doing his charity work - wouldn't be able to buy a mega mansion of course - he clearly wants to be Uber rich 🤑 and is leveraging his royal birth to do it.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 26/02/2021 13:15

And Kate Middleton, a white middle class woman, got exactly the same degree and intensity of criticism for a good 4-5 years when she first married into the RF. from her hairstyle, to her face, to her voice, to her clothes, even when she was hospitalised in her pregnancies she got criticism. She also got the blame somehow when an Australian DJ jeopardised the career of a nurse on the ward KM was admitted to when experiencing HG in her pregnancy, and that nurse committed suicide. It's less about racism, more about misogyny. Because isn't it funny how no one has a word to say about Jack Brooksbank.

But now MM has come along all of a sudden the press fawn over KM. very odd but not surprising

Springinmystep82 · 26/02/2021 13:15

@Titsinknicks

Is he moaning about his life or just explaining his actions? Give us a link to the video.

Being privileged and wealthy don't protect you against mental health issues. I won't list the huge number of rich successful people who have killed themselves because they felt so depressed.

Exactly. I really hate this notion that if you're privileged then you need to such it up. Mental health can effect anyone regardless of how much money or how you seemingly have a perfect life X
