Aibu to think that serving potatoes at all with salmon en croute is just unnecessary carbohydrates

Further to the thread on boiled potatoes, from what I could glean not one person pointed out that you are serving carbohydrates with what should be already an ample portion of carbohydrates in the pastry. We have salmon en croute with extra green veg to fill everyone up. Is it just me or do people not get what a healthy portion (especially carbohydrates) actually is? Don't get me started on garlic bread being served with pasta.......🤬

You still got cheese, bacon or black pudding butteries. There was no end to the debauchery

Well, ye did before the lockdowns.

Point taken re the fat levels. But there is token carb 😏 I used to get a couple of packets sent down to me before going on exercise. At least you knew what you were eating rather than a miscellaneous sachet.

Who eats pasta without garlic bread?! 😳

LouJ85 · 25/02/2021 17:57

@Wowthisisreal

I'm intrigued as to what else you would have garlic bread with if not pasta?

Glad it's not just me 😂

🙋 I do. It's weird to have pasta and bread for me. But whatever makes people happy
LouJ85 · 25/02/2021 18:06

@SchrodingersImmigrant

I just can't imagine not having them together. Grin but then again I do love my carbs. Grin

SchrodingersImmigrant · 25/02/2021 18:13

I too love my carbs @LouJ85
Is it a british thing? There is couple of things I will probably never get used to in food even after good cultural assimilation (imho) 😂
Bread with pasta and mushy peas😳
And I hear of Wigan wet... That's a no too.

No, its all over the world. Pick almost any country and you will find an equivalent to pasta and garlic bread or pastry with potatoes.

ElizaLaLa · 25/02/2021 18:37

What's Wigan wet?

DietrichandDiMaggio · 25/02/2021 18:44

Bread with pasta and mushy peas

Maybe you know someone who eats this combination, but it's not a 'British' thing.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 25/02/2021 18:53

Noooo😂 sorry. The mushy peas is separate. Just a little odd thing I never got used to. 😂 Sorry. Probably needed a coma there

LemonCrab · 25/02/2021 18:53

I haven't rtft as I'm eating low carb and it would make me too hungry.

But. Here are some of the best carb combos.

Crisp sandwiches.

Chip butties.

Pizza, garlic bread and potato wedges.

Burger and chips. (Apple pie for pudding)

Any sort of sandwich with chips.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 25/02/2021 18:55

@ElizaLaLa

What's Wigan wet?
It's a pea wet. It's like the water left from mushy pea on a barm or chips. I actually heard it first here on MN😂
RootyT00t · 25/02/2021 18:57

That is foul

LemonCrab · 25/02/2021 18:58

But jokes aside OP

That goes to show just how used to way too many carbs we are.

Day to day I think we do in general have way too many carbs.

Oh god no!
I hate mushy peas 🤮
But give me all the carbs any day. I am currently 33 weeks pregnant though - that's my excuse I'm sticking to it. Grin

ElizaLaLa · 25/02/2021 20:57

That has got to be the most disgusting thing I've ever read on here.

jakeyboy1 · 25/02/2021 22:45

My husband once made me pasta with a special sauce called risotto!!

To be fair we probably had a garlic bread on the side as well ;)

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/02/2021 23:52

Purely on the back of this thread I served the kids spaghetti-not-really-carbonara (you know, with the bought sauce that is a lot runnier than it should be). I did garlic bread to eat with the spag and chips to eat with the left over sauce.

Pasta, bread and potatoes....triple threat carb wise!!! Oh and the kids fucking LOVE me now!

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/02/2021 23:54

Pea wet is utterly gopping. I had a teenage boyfriend who I dumped after watching him yum it up. The Ick had NOTHING on that moment!

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/02/2021 23:55

I should say, I was the teenage girlfriend at the sametime, its not as pervy as I managed to make that sound :o

ChristOnAPeloton · 26/02/2021 00:18

?! I know we all have our guilty pleasures, but the thought that some people’s lives are so bleak they think mushy pea water in bread roll is a treat just makes me want to weep for humanity.

ChristOnAPeloton · 26/02/2021 00:24

Although I’ve just Googled it to check it wasn’t a piss-take, and was immensely cheered by the placement of this advert.

PrelovedWithValue · 26/02/2021 01:24

Talking of double carbs, isn't Wigan also the home of putting a pie in a bread roll?

FaceyRomford · 26/02/2021 01:29

Food is meant to be enjoyed. Have as many carbs as you want. I assume that gourmet delight the chip butty is unknown in your house OP.
