Dishwasher or washing machine in holiday let?

dontdillydallytoolong · 21/02/2021 23:42

Hi. We are in the process of converting our annexe into a holiday let. There is one double bedroom and a smaller bedroom with bunk beds. There is space in the kitchen for either a washing machine or a dishwasher. Which would you prefer if you were staying? My husband is saying washing machine, but I am thinking dishwasher. Would like help to decide. Thanks.

YABU - washing machine
YANBU - dishwasher

I wouldn't consider anywhere without a dishwasher. I don't wash up at home so why would I do it when away.

When the kids were little if something had got really dirty when we were away I would have just chucked it in a bin liner and dealt with it when home if there wasn't a washing machine.

If it had involved sick, poo or blood I'd have just binned it.

I genuinely can't think that I have ever used a washing machine when away.

Dishwasher.

I wouldn’t book a holiday cottage without one. It’s not a holiday if I have to do more cleaning than at home.

treeeeemendous · 22/02/2021 07:22

I actually refuse to cook on holiday too so it would just be breakfast items and cups/glasses at the most. But I still don't want to wash them up.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 22/02/2021 07:22

When the DC were young, I hated coming home with two weeks of dirty laundry (and they'd have run out of clothes to wear once we'd got back.

Even now, if it's just the two of us for a few days, I'm not bothered about a dishwasher - washing up takes a few minutes.

Dishwasher

We have a holiday let also, sleeps 4. 90% guests are families. It actually has dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer.
The washing machine and tumble dryer are actually rarely used ( they are in joint space so we often hear if on), maybe only 1 in 10 stays use it. And even then they comment on how unusual it is to have, so wouldn’t be bothered if it wasn’t here.

Dishwasher. Who washes clothes on holiday!

polamska · 22/02/2021 07:24

Would not book a place without a dishwasher. Preferably would have both

Chimoia · 22/02/2021 07:24

Really surprised that it's so split. Not many places we stay have a washing machine but love a dishwasher.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 22/02/2021 07:25

Theres always launderettes at a push but you cant outsource your washing up !

Sparklingbrook · 22/02/2021 07:25

How many more times are people going to ask who washes clothes on holiday. It’s been explained so many times on the thread why people would.

How common are these ‘emergency’ launderettes that people speak of? The town I live in has no launderette. Confused

Annabell80 · 22/02/2021 07:26

Dishwasher 100%. I don't do washing on holiday but would need to wash up so would much prefer a dishwasher.

drspouse · 22/02/2021 07:26

We would never stay in a holiday let without a washing machine. Not only do my DCs get dirty (especially if going to the beach/going for muddy walks) but also we have one that still has the odd accident. No way are we keeping her dirty pants for a week. Eww!

drspouse · 22/02/2021 07:28

(We wash clothes almost daily on holiday)

notacooldad · 22/02/2021 07:28

Dishwasher..
Its not a big deal for me to take the dirty clothes home but I dishwasher makes the holiday more relaxing.

Persephonegoddess · 22/02/2021 07:32

Dishwasher

pictish · 22/02/2021 07:32

Depends where you are and what sort of holiday people will want while staying with you.

As outdoors people we’d take the washing machine over the dishwasher any day...our kit gets filthy, wet, USED...and not having an inexhaustible supply of it means we NEED a washing machine and wouldn’t dream of booking somewhere without one. The dishwasher doesn’t matter early as much. Nice to have but not essential. The washing machine? Essential.

Earlybirdcatches · 22/02/2021 07:33

Centre parcs villas have a dishwasher, but not a washing machine so they’re probably a good example.

However I do use the washing machine when we’re away. It means I don’t have to take as many clothes with us and we come home with fresh clean laundry that can go straight back in the cupboards.

Lemons1571 · 22/02/2021 07:34

Washing machine 100% for a family let. I always tick this as essential on my Airbnb searches.

BeepBoopBop · 22/02/2021 07:34

Dishwasher, otherwise you will lose your couples & weekends market. Speaking as an AirBNB superhost. The apartment we rent every year for three months ourselves has a washing machine & no dishwasher - but unless you are doing very long lets, its not an issue. So unless you are in the French Alps, letting to skiers, dishwasher.

BasiliskStare · 22/02/2021 07:34

Ah @dontdillydallytoolong It seems like people want both - well I am sure it will be fine with either - can you give a hint to where you are ?

SimonJT · 22/02/2021 07:34

I only stay in places that have both.

A dishwasher is also beneficial for the cleaner, if you don’t have a dishwasher the cleaner then has to wash and dry all crockery etc by hand. If there is a dishwasher they can just shove it all in there and take it out before they leave.

The place we stayed in this summer even had a laminated sheet which showed the best way to load the dishwasher to get everything in. If you followed it you could get everything in apart from one saucepan, I was very impressed.

If install a washing machine remember to provide a clothes horse and a washing line if the property has suitable outdoor space.

I’m surprised by how many people would spend a few hours sat in a laundrette while on holiday.

pictish · 22/02/2021 07:35

@BigSandyBalls2015

Dishwasher. Who washes clothes on holiday!
Walkers, climbers, runners, hikers, kayakers, cyclists...need I go on?

Not everyone goes on holiday to lie on a beach or waft around gift shops.

cautiouscovidity · 22/02/2021 07:35

Dishwasher. I would take sufficient clothes for a week's holiday but would not want to be washing dishes all week.

GoLightlyontheEarth · 22/02/2021 07:35

Dishwasher unless you think people will stay more than a week. In that case you need a washing machine. If there are just two people, washing up isn’t an issue, it really depends who you think will let the property most of the time and how long for.

TheByngster · 22/02/2021 07:36

I wouldn’t book if it didn’t have both.
