Dishwasher or washing machine in holiday let?

dontdillydallytoolong · 21/02/2021 23:42

Hi. We are in the process of converting our annexe into a holiday let. There is one double bedroom and a smaller bedroom with bunk beds. There is space in the kitchen for either a washing machine or a dishwasher. Which would you prefer if you were staying? My husband is saying washing machine, but I am thinking dishwasher. Would like help to decide. Thanks.

YABU - washing machine
YANBU - dishwasher

Before kids I would have said a dishwasher. With kids 100% a washing mashine.

BusterGonad · 22/02/2021 04:08

Washing machine/dryer combo. I've often chosen holiday let's especially for the washing machine. Washing dishes by hand is easy, washing clothes by hand is not.

whistleinthewind · 22/02/2021 04:11

Can you convert a drawer to a dishwasher? You can get some drawer ones that fit a days worth of dishes - I personally would want both, for all the reasons said above. That being said, on holiday I wouldn't use much more than cups/glasses/bowls so not a huge deal to wash up. If I was there for a week or so I'd rather have the washing machine. Long weekend, dishwasher

willowsway · 22/02/2021 04:56

Definitely dishwasher. We do lots of cottage holidays and I've never needed to wash clothes

BasiliskStare · 22/02/2021 05:26

Oh I remember when DH & I were young and we then could afford our own dishwasher we put everything through it and the squeaky clean glasses - well I believe we sat round the kitchen table with a glass of wine each and just revelled in how much cleaner everything was.

So now I think about it - I would not like to think I was using cutlery , plates etc which had had someone else's idea of being clean ( & I don't consider myself fussy ) Grin

UnusuallyUsual · 22/02/2021 05:26

Who are you marketing fòr the let? Families, groups or couples. Will it be short breaks or will you offer long term breaks?

For me I would want a Dishwasher definitely,
I can honestly say I've never washed my clothes whilst on holiday... even when the kids were small. We always took enough.
I do think it will get tricky, drying the clothes, have you got space for a clothes line, inside clothes horse, what about mould and damp clothes in the winter or will it be a washer dryer?

Sally2791 · 22/02/2021 05:32

Do you have a shed/garage outside that a washing machine could go in?
If I had to choose I would say washing machine more important, but most people expect both now.

rwalker · 22/02/2021 05:41

Ideally both but if you had to choose more people would want a dishwasher .
Could you squeeze in slimline dishwasher and slimline top loading washing machine there only 45cm wide each www.appliancesdirect.co.uk/p/eiqwmtl75/electriq-eiqwmtl75-freestanding-washer-dryer
or stack fridge on top of 1 of the appliances

DonGray · 22/02/2021 05:48

Dishwasher will make your life easier for changeovers

I agree. I always need to do some washing during a week long holiday. If it's a fortnight in a hot country I might do 4 or 5 loads.

If you think it will be mainly short breaks though op then a dishwasher is probably preferable.

HOkieCOkie · 22/02/2021 05:50

Dishwasher, I think when your using pots and cutlery used by multiple people they need a hot wash in a dishwasher. You can take clothes home to be washed.

SmednotaSmoo · 22/02/2021 05:55

Dishwasher, and I’d run every thing through it between guests.

(I have spent time in a launderette on holiday = two hours break from the children. Dishwashing - chores three times a day which I can’t escape from.)

Positivevibesonlyplease · 22/02/2021 06:00

Dishwasher. Doesn’t everyone just take enough clothes to last a week?

Sparklingbrook · 22/02/2021 06:08

Yes but there’s been lots of posts explaining why a washing machine is good to have even so.
torquewench · 22/02/2021 06:13

Dishwasher. Or, at the very least a drying cupboard over the sink and drainer - one with an open rack on the bottom part instead of a shelf, theyre in just about every apartment Ive stayed at in Spain and theyre a great idea as they mean you can wash stuff and put it straight away without having to also dry it. Ive never done laundry when on holiday. Swimsuits just get a handwash.

Spidey66 · 22/02/2021 06:19

Washing machine. It means you can pack less.
When we go self catering we eat out a lot, so we just eat breakfast at 'home ' and If we do eat in the eve hints it's mainly light stiff, salads etc, not 4 course meals.

BokehBabe · 22/02/2021 06:22

Dishwasher, without a doubt.

Do you have capacity to build a little laundry room/cabin thing closely?

marmitepasta · 22/02/2021 06:25

Washing machine definitely

GwendolineWindowlene · 22/02/2021 06:29

Yes to the washing machine in a shed option. Or could it fit in the bathroom?

When I go on holiday I want the place I’m staying in to be as nice or nicer than my own house. I wouldn’t stay anywhere where I had to wash dishes. Unless I was (shudder) camping, in which case all bets are off and I embrace my inner savage.

Wiredforsound · 22/02/2021 06:30

I’d put a dishwasher in the kitchen but have a washing machine elsewhere. My friend has hers in the airing cupboard, for example, or I’d get a slim dishwasher or a tabletop dishwasher to make sure both were available.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 22/02/2021 06:31

i would say dishwasher,
people generally take enough clothes on holiday

Terminallysleepdeprived · 22/02/2021 06:33

Ideally both. I would perhaps fit the washing machine and then get a table top dishwasher.

Although does depend on the facilities. For example if you have a hot tub, beach or swimming pool close by they have access to then definitely a washing machine.

Dishwasher.

I wouldn’t be doing washing in holiday, would take our laundry home. In a terrible emergency would go to a laundrette.

But no way do I want to spend my holiday washing up.

We have stayed in loads of holiday cottages. Dishwashers far more common.

redcandlelight · 22/02/2021 06:36

washing machine. especially if it's near the beach/country walks. plus airers.
look at table top or drawer dishwashers maybe you can fit both.
