Dishwasher or washing machine in holiday let?

dontdillydallytoolong · 21/02/2021 23:42

Hi. We are in the process of converting our annexe into a holiday let. There is one double bedroom and a smaller bedroom with bunk beds. There is space in the kitchen for either a washing machine or a dishwasher. Which would you prefer if you were staying? My husband is saying washing machine, but I am thinking dishwasher. Would like help to decide. Thanks.

YABU - washing machine
YANBU - dishwasher

Dishwasher but I wouldn’t stay anywhere that didn’t have both.

@bloodyhairy

Utterly bizarre to me that people wouldn't take enough clothes for their holiday, and have to wash them there.
I find it utterly bizarre people rely on dishwashers so much and would prefer to take loads of dirty washing home instead of washing up a few pots. But there you go, sucks if we were all the same

Have you read the thread? Not taking enough clothes has not been the reason to use a washing machine on holiday.

There's five of us in my family and given the choice I would rather wash clothes half way through the week than lug a minimum of 35 changes of bloody clothes with us in the first place.

I'm the opposite, it's utterly bizarre to me to think that people drag loads of clothes away with them instead of packing light and washing things.

This thread has been an eye opener to me because I had no idea that I was in such a minority, as I seem to be.

Mad isn't it. Out of every household appliance there possibly is, a dishwasher would come bottom of every list to me. I find it mad people are so reliant on them!

I take enough clothes on holiday, but I’m not going to leave muddy wet clothes to fester until I get home.

It’s not reliance. It’s about which appliance will mean I enjoy a holiday more. That’s undoubtedly a dishwasher for me. I have never washed clothes on a regular holiday.

Dishwasher

I’m happy to bring a week’s worth of clothes with us and save laundry for when we are back. A week of washing up isn’t a holiday.

Yep. Same.
LST · 22/02/2021 16:16

Read some of the comments. Lots of posters have used dishwasher and essential in the same sentence!

I prefer to throw clothes in a few times a week on holiday. Its literally no bother to me whatsoever. It means I have no washing when I get home.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 22/02/2021 16:23

Dishwasher every time. Washing machine has been handy from time to time but not a prerequisite for us (family of 4).

PresentingPercy · 22/02/2021 16:23

They might need ironing though and that's more work. I rarely use my washing machine on holiday. I am sure holiday makers do, but it is "nice to have" on holiday. Hand washing is an option for the odd thing that needs doing. So provide a drying line. Even when DC were young, we took washing home. My machine is super duper one. Ones with low spin speeds, few settings etc don't do it for me!

I'm not reliant on a dishwasher, I'm perfectly able to wash dishes by hand, but I would very, very much prefer not to do so. So much so that I would not book accommodation without a dishwasher. It's just a preference. If I was holidaying with my FIL it wouldn't matter because he likes washing dishes, and is happy to do it.
Washinglinewench29 · 22/02/2021 16:28

Washing machine. My son spewed all over his car seat on a holiday once had to track down a laundrette as beyond sink bathing.

Needmoresleep · 22/02/2021 16:30

Walking clothes, the sort that get wet and muddy if you hit a damp week, surely don’t get ironed. Unless you are somewhere where even the cows are posh enough to notice.

Chimeraforce · 22/02/2021 16:31

We like both ideally. These lets are pricey so I like them to have at least what I have at home. I'd go camping if I wanted less.
If forced to choose, I'd choose dishwasher.

Sh05 · 22/02/2021 16:32

Washing machine and a table top dishwasher if you have space

Karmakarmachameleon · 22/02/2021 16:36

Personally, since I had a child, I don’t rent holiday lets without either of those things (for all the reasons other posters have said) but for me, it would be dishwasher first then washing machine. I just so passionately hate washing up - it just isn’t a holiday for me if I have to do it.

nuttyslackster · 22/02/2021 16:38

Dishwasher without a doubt.

Backtoschool101 · 22/02/2021 16:41

Washing machine then a table top dishwasher

greeneyedlulu · 22/02/2021 16:55

Dishwasher!! I expect to bring dirty clothes home from a holiday but a dishwasher would be a really luxury as I don't have one at home

mangothoughts · 22/02/2021 17:00

Definitely washing machine but I would fit a washer-dryer in one.
I would not be impressed with a family let that didn't have a washing machine. What with beaches or muddy walks or just usual mucky kids you need to wash beach towels and kids clothes pretty regularly. I refuse to do hand washing on holiday and no way would go to a Laundry place (do they even still exist in small towns/villages?)

Dishwasher would be nice but for a small family let it's not a huge amount of washing up and mostly we would eat out anyway.

Sarahlou63 · 22/02/2021 17:03

Dishwasher. And a note of the nearest launderette offering services washes. Sorted.

AlandAnna · 22/02/2021 17:08

I voted dishwasher as if I’m self catering we don’t want to be hanging around washing up a leisurely breakfast when we could stick it in the dishwasher and go out.
A washing machine is so handy though. No chance of putting it in bathroom or something?

gollygumdrops · 22/02/2021 17:11

Definitely dishwasher! We stay in holiday rentals quite a lot and can honestly say we’ve never used the washing machine. Who does laundry on holiday? The dishwasher on the other hand gets used every day and I wouldn’t rent somewhere without one.
