I just think Mulan is iconic. Currently watching the new one

Many citizens of Hong Kong beg to differ.

wizzbangfizz · 21/02/2021 16:52

I found Mulan very very boring.

MarzipanMadness · 21/02/2021 16:55

It’s Tangled

Frozen is absolute rubbish by comparison and I have never understood the love.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 21/02/2021 16:57

YES to Hunchback of NotreDame ...loved it whn the chidren were little

Mulan (only seen the animated), Emperors New Groove, Hercules ( am not holding out much hope for the live action remake)

and not Disney, but The Road to El Dorado is another favourite, although for some reason I always though it was David Hyde Pierce voicing one of the main characters, I was so shocked to find out (after a small row with dh) that I cannot even remember which one I thought he did, but voices are Kevin Kline and Ken Branagh .

Loopyloututu · 21/02/2021 17:01

For comedy value I LOVE tangled - I think it’s really funny. I also love singing “mother knows best” to my dd’s when they moan when I’m brushing their hair!

I love Pocahontas and I think “Colours of the Wind” is possibly the most beautiful Disney song ever - it gives me goosebumps.

I love the 101 Dalmatians and Alice in Wonderland top though, they are the best “old” ones IMO.

The kids do like Mulan, I haven’t watched it all the way through yet.

covilha · 21/02/2021 17:07

Sword in the Stone is great- but FANTASIA!!!!

kittycorner · 21/02/2021 17:38

Definitely one of the best.

Emeraldshamrock · 21/02/2021 17:39

I didn't like frozen either.
Brave, Lady and the tramp was my favourite as a DC.
I enjoyed beauty and the beast until a thread on mumsnet it put poor Belle's reality in light. Grin

Tsubasa1 · 21/02/2021 17:40

No, it's Moana. The music, the mesaage and the story make it one of a kind.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 21/02/2021 18:47

How could I have forgotten about Ratatouille?! It’s genuinely one of the only Disney moves I’ve watched several times. It’s magnificent and better than most non-animated movies. Such a great story and the ride at Disneyland Paris is fantastic. .

Figmentofimagination · 21/02/2021 19:11

@Bristolbongos

To anyone who hasn’t for Disney +, get it! So many films on here id forgotten about
Just a warning. It's currently £5.99 a month of £59.99 a year for today and tomorrow.

Once it hits Tuesday when the Star programmes are added it goes up to £7.99 a month or £79.90 for new subscribers. Current subscribers keep the old amount till august or till their next annual payment is due.

Imelda03 · 21/02/2021 19:14

I loved the new version/film!!

Figmentofimagination · 21/02/2021 19:14

I can't believe no one has mentioned A Goofy Movie. It has such amazing music! My dad used to let me listen to the soundtrack in the car.
Also, Princess and the Frog, Coco, Tangled.

Figmentofimagination · 21/02/2021 19:16

Love singing this song at the top of my lungs

flindorama · 21/02/2021 19:18

YABU

Moana every day of the week

AlowYew · 21/02/2021 19:19

Haven't seen any of these .

Seriously.

Need to get watching

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 21/02/2021 19:20

YABU. Definitely Moana by a long chalk.

MajesticWhine · 21/02/2021 19:21

I'm team Moana

Notanotherhun · 21/02/2021 19:25

Nobody has mentioned the original Cinderella yet, the scene were the mice make her dress is gorgeous and the animation is wonderful. Also Sleeping Beauty again for the aesthetics. Hated Frozen, selfish psycho of a lead.

TheBuffster · 21/02/2021 19:28

What I really liked about the original Mulan was her going to fight was a sacrifice. She wasn't a king Fu master, she was a clumsy and disorganised regular girl. It was a sacrifice because she was likely to be killed. She also had to work hard to keep up and utilise the gifts she did have, like her innovative thinking to be successful.

New Mulan loses that meaning because she's a typical Hollywood, so good at fighting she's magical and in no way like a normal relatable girl.

She is very linear having no personal growth like the original had in buckets.

That's why the Disney renaissance has feminist icons by the bucket load. Flawed, real women who learn and grow.

loveisanopensore · 21/02/2021 19:28

I don't think Pixar count. It's owned by Disney but it's a separate animation studio. More original stories too, different tone.

Mulan is excellent though, brilliant training montage.
Jungle Book will always be my favourite Disney.

TooTiredToCoo · 21/02/2021 19:30

Seriously, are there any adults who like Frozen?

Sofasouffle · 21/02/2021 19:33

What didn't you like about live action Mulan?

Dutchesss · 21/02/2021 19:37

Mulan was always my favourite.

TheBuffster · 21/02/2021 19:38

I also thought the feminist message of original Mulan was realistic, whereas the new one seems to be Idealistic simplicity.

The original bad guy, just for reference, was the most feminist guy in the whole piece. He treats Mulan the same, even referring to her as, 'The soldier in the mountains' after her big reveal. All the other characters have to be won round to see her value, which is realistic.

The new one is just like, 'Only bad guys are sexist'. Meh.
