Hmm

I will always be inextricably linked with Augustus Gloop for me - washed away in chocolate soup. Gus is nice.

Onlinedilema · 20/02/2021 15:23

It’s as nice as other month or season names and people on here seem to like those names.
I quite like it.

DesdemonaDryEyes · 20/02/2021 15:23

Prefer Augustus.

But not my baby.

OneFamilyToRuleUsAll · 20/02/2021 15:25

August? Someone says "without it being too out there"? Pretty sure it's too out there and a bit naff even if it's a nod to birthday but hey, it's our beloved Eugenie, so no problems.

And Hawke? Someone seems to be copying MM with an American-sounding name. Archie and August Hawke.

Yeah I said it and yes I'm posting this again. Of course people like the odd names, they aren't MM's child's names. Hypocrites!

BungleandGeorge · 20/02/2021 15:26

Augustus, Auguste, Augusta are traditional names but I don’t think August on its own is. I’ve only heard it the last few years, but it’s fine as a name, nothing particularly offensive about it!

You do realise that not everyone dislikes MM don't you?Hmm
DramaAlpaca · 20/02/2021 16:07

I like it. I think they've chosen very well. An interesting first name, a tribute to Prince Philip, and a Brooksbank family name.

midsomermurderess · 20/02/2021 16:08

What's it to you, with your not very subtle sneering?

OwlBeThere · 20/02/2021 16:14

I like it, Auggie is a cute nickname.

17caterpillars1mouse · 20/02/2021 16:14

I like it

littlepeas · 20/02/2021 16:16

I love it.

JesusAteMyHamster · 20/02/2021 16:16

I went to school with a girl called January......it was fine. Nobody ripped the piss out of her for it.

Longdistance · 20/02/2021 16:16

The little boy in the book Wonder was called August (Auggie).

ancientgran · 20/02/2021 16:17

@AledsiPad

It’s a shit name, and if Harry and Meghan had chosen it they’d be ripped apart on here.
Can you give me the numbers for tonight's lottery while you've got your crystal ball out.
HappyWipings · 20/02/2021 16:19

It's a great name.

Congratulations to them both.

Janegrey333 · 20/02/2021 16:22

All August’s names are lovely and well chosen. It is so nice to see his sweet face - and his parents are clearly happy. Awwww

CaravaggioLover · 20/02/2021 16:22

I think it's nice.

Can you imagine the outcry if they'd named him Wayne, Darren or Jayden?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/02/2021 16:23

I wonder how they picked it. He wasn't born and going by his birth date he wasn't conceived in August. I wonder if they got it from the Queen Mother's birth month also wasn't her sister Princess Beatrice an August baby.

AnneWeber · 20/02/2021 16:25

I like it

ancientgran · 20/02/2021 16:26

It is something like his 5 times Ggrandfather was Augustus. Philip is obviously for the Duke of Edinburgh, and Hawke is a family name on the father's side.

Lovely photos, they look very happy.

MrsMackesy · 20/02/2021 16:29

It's their choice. It doesn't matter one jot what we think, but I happen to love it. I could be biased though because we have the name Augustus - aka Gus - in our family. I would have used it but I ran out of boys. All the best to them and everyone else naming babies under critical eyes at the moment.

RubyViolet · 20/02/2021 16:30

I love it, l know a grown up August who is very accomplished.
It also reminds me of Gussie Fink Nottle from Jeeves and Wooster 😂😂

VladmirsPoutine · 20/02/2021 16:35

@ancientgran it's true though. Meghan can't even rub her stomach without being accused of being an attention seeker - something which Kate did with all her pregnancies. Nothing odd about what @AledsiPad said.

MindyStClaire · 20/02/2021 16:39

@Janegrey333

How refreshing to see the baby’s face and normal behaviour from the happy parents as opposed to the tedious gameplay if of the self-banished Sussex pair. The baby is very sweet and the names are lovely.
Yes, absolutely. A vague due date, no announcement of her labour, no fuss at the hospital. Just the birth announced many hours after it occurred, and a name and posed photo from home days later.

So different these couples, so different. HmmGrin

Crockof · 20/02/2021 16:43

I love how totally normal they both look in the picture and the fact that they have said the picture was taken by the midwife. I'd not heard of the name until I read Wonder (which BTW is great children's fiction) like that they have family links to the name.
As for OP, mn is full of comments on baby names and as out taxes indirectly support her I think its definitely fair play to discuss or have an opinion, we've moved on from the days where we couldn't criticise our 'superiors'
