golddustwomen · 20/02/2021 13:54

I like it Grin

SweetCharities · 20/02/2021 13:55

@Covidcorvid

One of Prince Albert’s middle names apparently. But yes, probably better as a middle name.
No his middle name was Augustus. The US makes a big difference :)
wanderings · 20/02/2021 13:55

Augusta is a character in Harry Potter (Neville's grandmother).

And yes, in Roald Dahl:
Not strawberry-flavoured-chocolate-coated-fudge, but Augustus-flavoured-chocolate-coated-Gloop. Ugh!

plinkplinkfizzer · 20/02/2021 13:55

Reminds of the mouse Gus in Cinderella .

NerrSnerr · 20/02/2021 13:56

@AledsiPad

It’s a shit name, and if Harry and Meghan had chosen it they’d be ripped apart on here.
It's a shit name in your opinion.

I think it's a lovely name.

LApprentiSorcier · 20/02/2021 14:00

Nothing wrong with the name but I don't see that it matters what the new arrival is called - Eugenie is not a centre stage royal by any means - her son won't have a title - to all intents and purposes he'll grow up as an aristocrat rather than a royal and unless he in later life does something newsworthy for its own sake I doubt we will hear very much more of him.

Griselda1 · 20/02/2021 14:03

Beautiful name and they look so happy

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 20/02/2021 14:04

SO surprised they didn't choose Andrew in recognition of it's grandfather.
August is an improvement on Augustus that it's shortened from - but does sound like a feminine name to me.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/02/2021 14:05

It's a diminutive of Augustus surely? Pretty sure that there were plenty of those in the Hanoverian Royal Family tree?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 20/02/2021 14:05

Wondered how long it would be until someone mentioned H&M Hmm
I think it's a great name, Gus as a nickname is particularly fab.

Maybemay123 · 20/02/2021 14:06

It's not my cup of tea but each to their own. They may not like the names names I chose for my dc.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/02/2021 14:06

@Icantrememebrtheartist

I LOVE it! Almost used it myself. I met a little boy called Augusta and they call him Gus
Sure it wasn't August, Auguste or Augustus? It would be a very brave decision to call a little boy Augusta.

I am a simple person. If I meet a person called April or Holly or Summer or Autumn, I assume they were born at that time of the year. It would confuse me mightily to learn that April was born in September, Holly in June, Summer in November or Autumn in March. It would also annoy me intensely if my parents had called me by a name that constantly got me into tedious conversations on the lines of:

  • August! What a lovely time to have a birthday. Were you the youngest in your class?
  • No, I was born in February, actually.
  • Oh!
  • No, I don't know why they chose it, before you ask. Moving on ...
Twinkie01 · 20/02/2021 14:06

It's lovely. A family name for them.

MouthAche · 20/02/2021 14:07

And your point is?

sunflowertulip · 20/02/2021 14:08

I really dislike it. Very cute baby though and a beautiful family photo.

MartinAtAFuneral · 20/02/2021 14:09

Who has called a baby August? I have an Augustus (Gus), so I'm a fan, even if it's a "celeb".

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/02/2021 14:28

Princess Eugenie and her husband.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 20/02/2021 14:31

I came in here in a panic thinking that there was news that indoor mixing won't be allowed until August. Am relieved to find it's about a baby name.

Paul Waaktaar-Savoy from a-ha has a son called True August, he is known a Augie. I quite like it as a name.

SelfMadeFantasist · 20/02/2021 14:32

I like it, although I prefer Augustus.

Great names, and a lovely baby.

Thomasina79 · 20/02/2021 14:32

He can quietly drop it when he is older and tell everyone his name is Phillip.

NewScone · 20/02/2021 14:37

So judgy

MargaretThursday · 20/02/2021 14:40

Augustine Phillips was a Shakespearean actor, one of The King's Men and The Lord Chamberlain's Men (Shakespeare's company), listed as one of the 26 actors who performed in Shakespeare's plays. He was one of the 6 actors that became sharers and part owners of The Globe along with William Shakespeare.

CallmeAngelina · 20/02/2021 14:42

@AledsiPad

It’s a shit name, and if Harry and Meghan had chosen it they’d be ripped apart on here.
Why do people insist upon comparisons with them? They're irrelevant. This is a thread about Eugenie's new baby, one which I note they've been happy to post sweet pictures of in the media. Job done, (most) people are being nice about it, curiosity and interest is satisfied, so we can all move on. No drama.
NoSausageRoll · 20/02/2021 14:43

I like it and I like Gus too. I think we’ll see a lot more Augusts now though.

Lampzade · 20/02/2021 14:43

@Janegrey333

How refreshing to see the baby’s face and normal behaviour from the happy parents as opposed to the tedious gameplay if of the self-banished Sussex pair. The baby is very sweet and the names are lovely.
Bingo I knew someone would mention H and M
