To think that the sex of cats is not on a spectrum?

Just saw this comment in the comments section of Times Article today talking about Play for Women taking taking the ONS to court for redefining sex in the census

Comment:
I thought that it was an exaggeration that there were extremists who denied sex. Then I went to a local meeting about the toilets in our town. Person after person stood up to say that segregating them by sex was wrong because “sex is reductive and must be replaced by gender identity”. My father - a retired vet - got chatting to one of them afterwards and asked if he knew humans are mammals.
“Ye-es,” he said.
“And if you were to get into breeding other mammals as pets - you would know which cat was of the sex class that could get pregnant by observing their sex organs. So you see, sex is not reductive but instead an absolute basic fundamental in the classification of mammalian life.”
His stupefying reply: “sex is a spectrum, so there would be no guarantees. In that scenario I’d buy a group of cats, leave them alone and they’d figure it out. By the way, you sound like a transphobe.”

AIBU To think that the sex of cats is not on a spectrum?

@nothingcomestonothing

My DC eyerolled at me for ranting about that CBBC series with the mtf trans child. Until I suggested maybe Dcat isn't in fact a cat, but is really a rabbit, maybe he feels like a rabbit, then they just grasped how ridiculous the whole notion of 'identifying' is. So maybe cats are the answer...
Yup. I have just told my DCs that all our indoor plants have refused to accept the indoor plant food and are demanding to be taken outside. They think I have finally lost it.

@Thewithesarehere

It’s you who is throwing the word ‘hyperbole’ around *@Shannon9873*. This is a thread for discussing a sensitive issue. So instead of asking politely, you have gone the opposite way. How is that ok?
I suppose I have become a bit hyperbolic in my exasperation at other’s exasperation

‘Women athletes are going to die’ (paraphrased) has entertained me though in its utter nonsense, I guess the whole debate is a moot point as all the female athletes will die off soon. apparently Grin

334bu · 20/02/2021 11:34

I realise why it is important for some people to try and pretend that there are more than two sexes but what I can't understand is why so many people; even those like the Green Party who are all about the science, go along with this nonsense.

Thewithesarehere · 20/02/2021 11:42

@Shannon9873
We have a thread on mixed martial arts where a trans woman (male bodied) competed against a female athlete and caused grievous harm. I will see if I can find it. It’s a well documented case and I have no doubt there may be others that have slipped under the radar.

RandomMess · 20/02/2021 11:44

I have just bought pet insurance, I kid you not it asked what gender my dog was 😳

Shannon9873 · 20/02/2021 11:45

@CoffeeTeaChocolate

boysvswomen.com/#/

Shannon, if you are interested in the differences between males and females, the link above compares college boys to female Olympians.

Scroll down and you will get a break down per area. In many areas, the women wouldn’t even qualify.

This difference due to male puberty exists in most sports. I am not that interested in sports, but it is difficult enough for women to earn a living from it. They don’t need competition from biological males.

You know I’m not disagreeing with you, right?

To bring you up to speed - I’m bemoaning people getting so worked up by this issue as it doesn’t really affect 99.99% of people. Others saying I’m getting worked up about others getting worked up. Some others still just don’t like me/my approach

I’m Not actually disagreeing with you or the people responding to me

Being all for science does not mean they understand science too. I think that Green Party is more interested in sounding cool than it is in science.

@Shannon9873 which issues 'doesn't affect 99.99 of people'? Women in sport, or the gender debate in general?

@AbstractHeart

Can cats have sex chromosome abnormalities like humans can? XXY, XO, etc?
Do not bring people with differences of sexual development (formerly intersex) into any discussions about transgender ism. It's really offensive and not related at all.
Beamur · 20/02/2021 11:51

Sorry, haven't rtft. The OP made me laugh at the cat comparison.
Do people really not get that sexual dimorphism is purely about reproduction? It's how two human beings make another human. Two different kinds of gametes. That doesn't change.
How people express themselves, describe themselves, how society works - that changes all the time (within surprisingly narrow parameters). Still sexually dimorphic though..

A trans person entering into a fun run doesn’t affect YOU personally (although no doubt it will turn out that you’ll claim I am Wrong)

A trans woman entering into a women’s golf tournament in a sleepy village in Kent does not affect YOUR life. When it does by all means do something about it but it’s all a storm in a tea cup.

Someone else said something g along the lines of, ‘I don’t like it for what it represents/what it leads to’ and that’s fine and I understand that.

The poster who claimed women were going to die because ‘Brenda’ is competing with the mums rather than the dads in an egg and spoon race - yeah that’s a bit ridiculous

My cat is a non-binary asexual demiboi.

Hepsie · 20/02/2021 11:52

You really need not bother. What on earth are you hoping it proves? Let me save you the time, go and make a lovely herbal tea instead

Well tbh, it doesn't matter if you don't feel that way and are not interested in this. What's important is the many people who read these threads seeking more information but do not post. So you may not want to bother, but other people may well want to find out more. And that information is here for them to consider and make up their own minds.

@Hepsie

‘Women athletes are going to die’ (paraphrased) has entertained me though in its utter nonsense

It's not inconceivable that this could happen. Just look at the damage Fallon Fox caused a woman in MMA. He fractured her skull and ended her carer. It's hardly entertainment.

Who said that it was entertainment.

For like Literally the 100th time now, I agree with you, sexed should have separate sports events. If that doesn’t happen though it does t affect me so I don’t care. It has no impact on my life

titchy · 20/02/2021 11:55
@Shannon9873 I said HUMANS are more complex - I was asked about biology, however that was not my point - I know what I meant - however it is easy to twist people’s intentions and so the debate goes on.
Wow! You said humans are more complicated. Someone asked you for an example. The example you proffered was the number of chromosomes. It was your example that was a biological one. It's right there in black and white, with no deletions.

I have to applaud your ability to ignore reality though, it's quite something!

ErrolTheDragon · 20/02/2021 11:56

Maybe it would be an idea for you to get that tea instead rather than policing a thread on a subject you're not actually interested in, Shannon? Up to you of course, but it's a bit puzzling. (Im really not intending to have a go, just making an observation)

Originalusername2021 · 20/02/2021 11:57

@titchy someone asked be for a biological example - it’s there in black and white.

Most people say that until their daughters are pushed out of sports teams due to the presence of a male transgirl or their Women's Officer at Uni is a boy.

Ok hands up, how many of you here have been pushed out of sport or have a family member/friend who has?

Really, none of you?

See, that’s what I mean, there’s the odd fringe case now and then but it’s all a bit of a non-issue

RandomMess · 20/02/2021 11:57

@ShulamithFirestone

TBF DDog is a small female terrier that identifies as a female cat at home & a male Labrador whilst out and about.

The cats change their identity on a regular basis.

PurpleKoala · 20/02/2021 11:59

I’m Not that interested in sport and I bet most people on here aren’t either so why are so many people ‘actually furious’

The interests and needs of particular individuals, and those of a class of people, are not the same though. I am not remotely interested in other people's religious beliefs. It doesn't stop me being horrified about mass rape being carried out against religious minority women by the dominant religious regime in several countries at the moment. Because I am a woman and care about women, even if I don't agree with their religious beliefs.

I don't give a monkeys about rugby, I do love athletics. I care that women competing in both rugby and athletics are being pushed out of their sport to allow biological men to compete in their place. Because I am a woman, and care about women, no matter what class of sport they like. Sport, particularly in the US, can be the gateway to education for poor women who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford a higher education. And all sporting achievement starts at grass roots, at fun runs and sports days. Nobody is born an Olympic athlete. If women don't get the chance in the early days, in the school and district runs, university competitions, club competitions, because places for women are being taken up by biological males, then they cannot make up that experience.

Is there a minimum number of women who have to be killed, miss out on an education, miss out on a job, miss out on a sporting career, lose the chance to become an elected official, miss out on a scholarship, miss out on a career defining award, miss out on a cervical smear out of fear of who is performing it, miss out on a healthy and fulfilling sex life because of dictats from TRAs about genital preference.....are you ok if it's your sister/mother/daughter/you who falls below the "minimum" and is therefore acceptable collateral damage in the need to "be kind"?

Shannon9873 · 20/02/2021 11:59

Already have it, chamomile (grow it myself). Very calming and delicious on a wet and windy Saturday

Not policing anything, simply stating that I think it’s all overblown.
