To think that the sex of cats is not on a spectrum?

Just saw this comment in the comments section of Times Article today talking about Play for Women taking taking the ONS to court for redefining sex in the census

Comment:
I thought that it was an exaggeration that there were extremists who denied sex. Then I went to a local meeting about the toilets in our town. Person after person stood up to say that segregating them by sex was wrong because “sex is reductive and must be replaced by gender identity”. My father - a retired vet - got chatting to one of them afterwards and asked if he knew humans are mammals.
“Ye-es,” he said.
“And if you were to get into breeding other mammals as pets - you would know which cat was of the sex class that could get pregnant by observing their sex organs. So you see, sex is not reductive but instead an absolute basic fundamental in the classification of mammalian life.”
His stupefying reply: “sex is a spectrum, so there would be no guarantees. In that scenario I’d buy a group of cats, leave them alone and they’d figure it out. By the way, you sound like a transphobe.”

AIBU To think that the sex of cats is not on a spectrum?

@BarbaraofKent

I find the whole 'sex isn't binary, it's a spectrum, there is no such thing as male and female' so offensive.

Over history there has never been any ambiguity about who is male and who is female. Never any question of who should be denied a vote, or an education, or an abortion, who should be murdered at birth, who should be raped as a weapon of war, who should have their genitals mutilated, who should be denied a promotion or a pay rise. No one had to check anyone's genitals or chromosomes, no one ever navel gazed about 'what does it even mean to be a woman'.

It's such fucking horseshit, perpetrated mainly by males who apparently cannot stand seeing women carving out their own standing in society.

Post of the week.

Indeed, Barbara!

@Originalusername2021

I don’t believe that happened, also Humans are a lot more complex than cats.
This. Amazing how determined some posters are to shoehorn in some trans hating.
YetAnotherSpartacus · 22/02/2021 10:22

I can't see any trans hating on this thread.

I'm also not sure that humans are more complex than cats.

Winesalot · 22/02/2021 10:30

So, stating that sex classes are not on a spectrum is trans hating. I think perhaps you need to be more clear about what you categorize as hate please.

Because women asking that sex classes be respected for laws, statistics needed for policy decisions concerning women and protections and safeguarding, is not hatred of anyone. If you think that, maybe you are reacting to your own agenda of ‘being kind’.

Do you honestly think people who disagree with you do so out of hate?

turquoisewaters · 22/02/2021 11:06

Of course sex is defined and not a spectrum for the human species (unless you have a specific medical condition e.g. Morris syndrome)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Androgen_insensitivity_syndrome

Winesalot · 22/02/2021 11:15

Sadly, I don't know a great deal about AIS but it has been said to me that by its nature it is a male condition. I follow one or two people with the condition on twitter.

Winesalot · 22/02/2021 11:23

Sadly, press post too quickly.

I think there are very few, very rare DSDs (if any if you listen to DSD activists) that are not either male or female conditions. Meaning with modern technology, thankfully people's sex can be categorised.

turquoisewaters · 22/02/2021 13:38

There is a large movement of people who have been trained to believe that sex is a social construct

There is huge pressure on government and organisations to bow to this

I wonder who is really behind this huge pressure being exerted and what is the true objective? I don't understand how a minority can exert so much influence?

Winesalot · 22/02/2021 14:01

My favourite question is 'who benefits from this', and by 'who', I mean the less obvious benefactors as well.

For example: Who benefitted from lowering the age of consent and dressing up a young teen's sexual freedom in the 60s & 70s France as proposed by the supposed father of queer theory? Grimly, the suppression of those victims has finished and they are now telling the world 40-50 years after.

All of a sudden, several men who were once celebrated as intellectual elites are facing the consequences of their actions and have gone into hiding or been terminated from their high status positions.

The women who enabled this need to understand their role as well. That is the lesson for us all now.

YouSetTheTone · 22/02/2021 14:40

I posted previously about what happens if the principle of ‘Kevin’ being allowed to compete against ‘Brenda’ in an egg and spoon race is legally established.

Here’s an example of real world consequences of erosion of sex based rights- it’s been reported today that
a refuge for women & children in Brighton (women fleeing domestic abuse) has lost its contract with Brighton and Hove council because it’s not inclusive enough.

2020iscancelled · 22/02/2021 14:47

This is scary but hilarious at the same time

The persons answer is hilarious because they will actually go out of their way to valid their own beliefs and arguments even tho it’s absolute nonsense - no breeder buys 10 dogs without checking their genitals, hoping instead that two of them can adequately reproduce. It’s just insane to suggest they would, that answer in itself is just idiotic.

Scary in the broader sense for women

Oh Barbara of Kent. You are my hero.

This perfectly captures thoughts I’ve had that I’ve never been able to articulate properly.

Yes, and in this instance, I struggle to see who these less obvious benefactors who are supporting all of this could be, and why?

SmokedDuck · 22/02/2021 18:28

I can see why a person might think this is a made up incident, and maybe it is. B

But I have seen people in print, and had conversations with people, where they absolutely argued that sex is a spectrum and this is an argument for dividing toilets and prisons by gender rather than sex. Some of them have been on this thread.

They absolutely think human beings are different than other mammals in that regard.

SmokedDuck · 22/02/2021 18:35

@334bu

*The idea of buying a blue pushchair for a boy and then replacing it with a pink one for a girl would have been laughable. In recent years manufacturers and marketeers have seen a way to extract more money from parents and are milking it for all they are worth*

Always about the money.!! However, you would think that this generation of young parents ,who are the " green" generation ,wouldn't call for this consumeristic, non -environmentally friendly claptrap. A good salesman can convince anyone that something is an essential and they can also convince the gullible that sex is a spectrum!
Bet you cats wouldn't call for it.

I'm afraid the "green" generation is a bit of a joke. They are far worse consumers than their elders. Just suggest maybe it would be better to eat more locally and avoid the import of so many exotic foods, or holiday domestically.
