To ask when you put your baby in their own room

Despite my best efforts my 8 month old is a light sleeper. He frequently gets disturbed by me and my husband going to bed /getting up in the morning although sometimes he will resettle.
I would like to put him in his own room but my husband is really against it and says it's mean while he's so little. I'm sure our older girls were in their own room by 8 months (pretty sure it was 6 months).
What age did you put baby in their own room?

About 5 months, as my husband got up for work at 4am and it would wake the baby every time. Slept much better once in own room.

dementedpixie · 19/02/2021 20:39

6 months for dd, 8 months for ds

Alarae · 19/02/2021 20:41

Just before she turned six months old.

She loved it. She was away from my snoring husband (lucky duck) and actually loved the extra space in her cotbed.

PumpkinPie2016 · 19/02/2021 20:42

About 8/9 months. Would probably have done it around 6 months as DH snores but due to some work we were doing on the house, the room wasn't ready before that.

He did sleep better in his own room.

WhenTwoBecomeThree · 19/02/2021 20:42

Around a week before she turned 6 months, we all kept waking each other up, she slept much better in her own room and so did we once we got used to her being in there and stopped setting an hourly alarm to check on her

MadKittenWoman · 19/02/2021 20:42

6 months.

Findahouse21 · 19/02/2021 20:43

4.5 months

Thatwentbadly · 19/02/2021 20:44

DD1 a couple of months before she turned 2 and DD2 still isn’t at 19 months.

If your ready for him to move then I would DH sleeps on air bed in the room with DH. 😉

Loz604 · 19/02/2021 20:44

5 months for my little boy as he was filling his moses basket. Best decision for us as he wasn't phased by it and became routine so he's amazing at bedtime now.

LouiseTrees · 19/02/2021 20:44

Most of my friends did it at 9 months, although the official recommendation is to wait til 1 year old if you can

Givemeabreak88 · 19/02/2021 20:45

I don’t know, my 3 year old is still in my room. 😒

Muskox · 19/02/2021 20:47

From day 1, that was the advice when DC1 was born.

TheCanyon · 19/02/2021 20:47

Dd1, bout 11 months, dd2 about 13 months, dts 8 weeks

HitchFlix · 19/02/2021 20:49

Four months. Yes I know the guidelines but the sleep deprivation was having a terrible impact as I woke with every single move she made. I couldn't function. I did the same with my second and I'd do it again!

bakingdemon · 19/02/2021 20:49

From birth. I slept in there with him for the first four months. It meant we had no trouble with a transition out of our room as he'd never been in it. For both your sakes, and for his. move him now. The later you do it, the longer it will take him to get used to being in his own room. With a monitor, you'll hear him if he's really cross.

JackiesCrimbleCrumble · 19/02/2021 20:51

9 months.
We put dc in their own room the first night we moved into our new house and it was the best thing for us all.
It would've been sooner but her bedroom would've been on a different floor and it was like a sauna up there, I didn't feel comfortable with it.

Youarenothere · 19/02/2021 20:51

7 months, I moved in with him and haven’t left yet, he’s 3.

Megan2018 · 19/02/2021 20:52

15 months

Nemostripes · 19/02/2021 20:53

Just before six months. Much better for me as even when DC started sleeping through I just couldn't - the slightest toss, turn or grunt would wake me up! We all sleep better and DC isn't disturbed by DP's snoring and early work alarm. Just invest in a good video monitor.

Thebig3 · 19/02/2021 20:54

5mths (DD1), 8wks (DS2), 16wks (DS3)

FFSAllTheGoodOnesArereadyTaken · 19/02/2021 20:54

About 7 months I think. It's weird to think he think its mean to sleep in his own room but not mean to wake him up once or more a night

Adelais · 19/02/2021 20:55

Both dds were about 10 weeks old when they went into their own rooms. Once they had outgrown the Moses basket we didn’t really have a choice as we couldn’t fit a cot in our room.

TrufflyPig · 19/02/2021 20:56

7 months, she slept much better and so did I.

Boho7 · 19/02/2021 20:56

We were exactly the same with both of ours aswell! And do it again too
DreamingInColours · 19/02/2021 20:57

DS 15 months is in a cot in my room and usually gets in our bed at midnight. It's what I'm comfortable with and I'll move him to his room when it's time. I don't feel rushed and am lucky that DH is happy to follow my lead.
