To be triggered by the sight and sound of Nicola Sturgeon

Since lockdown started I have found that it creates a feeling of dread and anxiety in me every time I hear her voice or see a photo of Nicola Sturgeon or watch her on TV. Same with Boris to an extent, but less so due to Scottish restrictions being more relevant to me. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to hear her speak or see her without these horrible feelings coming back: feeling of bleakness and worry about what she’s going to say next. I think I’ve just come to associate her voice and face with bad news. There’s also part of me that has a sense she’s enjoying the level of control she has over the nation. I just don’t think I’ll ever be able to listen to her again without being transported back to these horrible times. I know in my rational mind she’s just doing her job, but I still feel a strong aversion due to the messages she’s delivering

I think Nicola's contempt for anyone asking stupid questions is portrayed well in Janey Godley's videos

Fixed it for you!

I've not seen one question featured on one of Janey's spoofs that wasn't already answered or blatantly obvious.

Jaypreen · 18/02/2021 16:46

I've noticed she does this eye blink sometimes - like she's trying to get her head around someone's logic - maybe a bit exasperated.

Isn't that generally accepted as being common when someone lying ?

LexMitior · 18/02/2021 16:52

Ah and anything to shift away from the topic at hand... which is her conduct and the subject of the thread. I watch PMQs and it is a pantomime like much of Westminster (one point to me).

But one panto doesn't mean you can't look at another dame, does it?

GreenlandTheMovie · 18/02/2021 16:54

They are her opponents. Its disrespectful and unprofessional to say some people deserve which is the implication of what you said (joke). She was a solicitor wasn't she - she wouldn't have done that in court. It says a lot about a person that she isn't bothered to give her opponents the respect they give her.

I am prepared and willing to be corrected on this, but Sturgeon's only experience in practice after completing her traineeship was with the Glasgow Law Centre, which provided free legal advice, for a year. Please correct me if I'm wrong - its actually really difficult to find out accurate information about the work experience of our politicians, and its certainly not listed on any official register which is checked for accuracy, or volunteered by them.

I've just watched some of these and they are absolutely priceless. Brilliant

is it?
I'm talking about when she's listening, not when she's talking - so, no, not lying

Jaypreen · 18/02/2021 17:22

Yes I believe it is.

Listening and speaking, it serves as a protection mechanism.

It's symptomatic generally of the urge to blank out reality. As I understand it.

Apologies for wandering from the point which you've decided we must adhere to.

Please continue...

I thought the thread was about Nicola Sturgeon?

SpringisSpinning · 18/02/2021 17:27

I agree, not Scottish but swung from disliking her to actually finding her passion invigorating but now I just find her manner and tone one of endless grimness... No good news, nothing to look forward forward too, she's in a permanent state of bad mood.. And I don't think that's great in a leader.

Jaypreen · 18/02/2021 18:03

Are you being deliberately obstinate ?
Jaypreen · 18/02/2021 18:06

she's in a permanent state of bad mood That's probably down to her irrational hatred of the English.

As is common amongst SNP members.

happygolurkey · 18/02/2021 18:09

read that article ta Jaypreen. No, that's not what i was referring to at all. probably didn't explain well - it's not blocking - not a prolonged eye shut - just a brief flicker - you know when the head goes back slightly when someone says something you weren't expecting? more like that. It's rare she does it - only noticed it very occasionally but just wondered if that was what folk were referring to as have genuinely never seen her roll her eyes. Just asked my partner and they've never noticed it either, even though we watch the briefings daily. I guess we all notice different things

happygolurkey · 18/02/2021 18:19

irrational hatred of the English.
that'll come as a surprise to the many members of the SNP who are English, including the London born Angus Robertson. also, when there were complaints from English people that it would be unfair to those forced out of the EU if Scotland got to go back in, Nicola Sturgeon's response was to invite them to come and live in Scotland. Strange to invite people she hates to come and live here is it not?

Pinkfreesias · 18/02/2021 18:31

Sturgeon has made Scotland such a toxic and divided place. I agree with you, OP. Her daily party political broadcasts fill me with a mix of dread, resentment and anger. How she has been allowed to carry on unchecked, I don't understand. Her obvious hatred of all things English is glaring. If she can make any subject about England, she will. This 'mood' filters down to her supporters, too.

I've been living in Scotland for 6+ years; most of my family is Scottish and I love this place so much. But we're now actively looking to move back to England.

Plenty of English remainers flock to her pro EU, anti Union dogma, yes I know. Odd really, seen as Sturgeon doesn't want independence for Scotland at all. She wants Scotland subsumed in to a larger body, one [where there's no England] so It's a governance calibration exercise. A lot of powers would have to be handed over to Brussels as part of Scottish independent membership of the EU, an outcome with which the SNP are happy. Yet they are not happy with powers held in London? This reeks of Anglophobia if you ask me..

She / The SNP use "Westminster" to describe the English in the same way Corbynites use Zionists when what they really mean is Jews.

I think you need to calm yourself down a wee bit.

My worry is that Scotland will become an even more anglo-phobic place after Sturgeon's through with playing up to that instinct amongst the Scottish people. The one's that live with this legend that the English stole all their sweeties.
MrsMackesy · 18/02/2021 19:27

She always reminds me of Jimmy Krankie in a good way and she's not nearly as bad as Boris either.

Just as the were Brexiteers who weren’t racist but wanted out of the EU, there are people who want Scottish independence for reasons not connected with getting rid of the English.

Sadly, however, far too many of the SNP’s supporters are just about hating the English. I’ve witnessed it first hand too often. I’m Scottish so people talk freely at work not realising I have an English husband,

Thank God I wfh now.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 19/02/2021 09:01

There are indeed some SNP supporters who aren’t anti-English. But they are few and far between.

The antiEnglish sentiment I heard (as a Scot) was disgusting. It became acceptable and if it related to any other nationality the police would have been involved due to the racism

Ladytremain · 19/02/2021 09:17

I don’t agree with her political stance but my aversion to her has come about because of the messaging and delivery. Never good news, no glimmers of hope, dour and secretive. I don’t think she understands the full impact of some of her decisions on people. I can liken the feeling to that of hearing or seeing a boss who is bullying you at work, or a teacher that just won’t stop picking on someone. It’s that kind of dread, their clothes, voice, mannerisms just make you want to run for the hills. The SNP crowd remind me of Trump supporters. Blind faith in someone promising them a better life and tapping in to inherent racism.

I agree. As much as I don’t like Boris and his political stance I dislike hers just as much and feel that at least he is more uplifting when he speaks. We need less doom and gloom. People are losing hope.

RubysArms · 19/02/2021 10:24

Boris Johnson uplifting?

Hilarious.
