To be triggered by the sight and sound of Nicola Sturgeon

Since lockdown started I have found that it creates a feeling of dread and anxiety in me every time I hear her voice or see a photo of Nicola Sturgeon or watch her on TV. Same with Boris to an extent, but less so due to Scottish restrictions being more relevant to me. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to hear her speak or see her without these horrible feelings coming back: feeling of bleakness and worry about what she’s going to say next. I think I’ve just come to associate her voice and face with bad news. There’s also part of me that has a sense she’s enjoying the level of control she has over the nation. I just don’t think I’ll ever be able to listen to her again without being transported back to these horrible times. I know in my rational mind she’s just doing her job, but I still feel a strong aversion due to the messages she’s delivering

Yeah Frau Sturgeon likes to take a leaf out of the Nazi play book from time to time. Free speech here, a little blaming another peoples there, a little ruining the economy and lying about it there. She's a lying tyrant who does nothing more than cover up her failings which are FAR more plentiful than her winnings! Anyone care to listen? She's a scourge to Scotland and yet people still follow her because she's created a cult. A cult following of people and a media that has no idea how to criticise her because they're ostensibly brainwashed. Oh and yes I'm a Scot who's lived here for a very long time.

happygolurkey · 17/02/2021 21:16

Sturgeon's a Nazi now, lol. I wondered when we were going to get to that. Honestly, you people do yourselves no favours

Sturgeon is hated on here simply because she is a woman in a position of power. It's pathetic.

I don't really agree with that. I don't hate her but I completely understand why people aren't keen.

And just for a bit of balance to all the screams of misogyny I'm sure most of the people commenting negatively on here also loathe John 'hopeless' Swinney and Humza 'thought police' Yousaf.

Absolutely - they are equally dreadful and untrustworthy.

Agree - there is a distinct lack of talent, and disliking her has nothing to do with her sex. In fact, I'd say that for me her being a woman in a position of power is a positive as even if I disagree with her politics I think it's a positive for girls to see women in these kind of roles.

However @Cismyfatarse pretty much nailed it.

bloodyhairy · 17/02/2021 23:54

I'm Scottish and I like her. The wee Krankie thing gets on my tits though. Why oh why does it always have to boil down to a woman's appearance? HmmConfused

MissEliza · 17/02/2021 23:59

@MintChocAddict John Swinney is incompetent but apparently well meaning. Humza Youssef is a nasty piece of work.
In the interest of full disclosure, my dh is Muslim and his family name is Youssef so please don't accuse me of anything racist. PS you can only do that when you've explained racism.

Jollygoodtime · 18/02/2021 02:02

It’s not only women who are judged by their appearance. You can find articles online, Salmond looks like Shrek, fat, greasy etc. Corbyn like steptoe, a retired postie and a tramp. Boris, orangutan, alpaca, a little Britain character, dishevelled, fat etc. Let’s not even go for trump, putin and Kim jong. She does look and sound a bit like wee Jimmy Krankie. I don’t call her that but it’s not unique to women.

stampsurprise · 18/02/2021 05:39

I am sorry to say that I haven’t heard IRL where I live any reason for independence except for “getting rid of the English”. It got pretty unpleasant hun parts of Scotland during the close-run referendum.

My husband is English. I’ve witnessed bullying at work towards the English “settlers”.

I hate nationalism and jingoism. No I’m not proud to be Scottish - that was an accident of birth.

I don’t want to live in the SNP’s Scotland if they come to power.

BidensWingWoman · 18/02/2021 05:51

Blush haha sorry I meant if they succeed in their aim to leave the UK. It’s bad enough now...
GreenlandTheMovie · 18/02/2021 08:35

It doesn't appeal to me either (living in a independent Scotland). I'm not that bothered either way really, as it's easy enough to move away to England for work (so many of my friends have had to) but it would sure make for interesting watching.

But no, living in a tiny country of only 5 million people with an authoritarian leaning government, high taxation, poor infrastructure, outwith the EU and with a unicameral legislature, doesn't appeal to me at all.

But thats OK. The SNP have reassured us that we will be replaced by immigrants. They don't really want or need people who aren't for independence anyway. I remember Gordon brown saying, just before the last independence referendum, that when Scotland was last independent, it was a notably intolerant country. He didnt mean intolerant of immigrants. He meant intolerant if free thought amongst its people. You would undoubtedly have to tow the Party Line if you wanted to get anywhere in life. I've heard of enough people being asked how they think about I dependence in job interviews (by Snp supporting interviewers) already.

Biden - can I just point out that you don't control this thread, and I'm getting a little tired of your constantly contradicting everyone who posts an anti Snp opinion. It's tedious and isn't improving the debate. Can you try and put your own points, rather than not picking others?

BidensWingWoman · 18/02/2021 08:40

Huh? I've not been posting about the SNP on this thread. I've been posting about Salmond and Sturgeon. And no one has yet answered my very first post. Since then, I've just been pretty much responding to people that are answering my posts.

If people don't want to hear from me, maybe they need to stop posting in response to my posts!

BidensWingWoman · 18/02/2021 08:43

Oh, I have posted about the SNP specifically in relation to Shetland. But most of my posts are about Sturgeon and Salmond.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/02/2021 08:45

@BidensWingWoman

Oh hopefully someone here will be able to answer a question that nobody has ever been able to answer.

Why are people so interested in defending Salmond, when his defence was basically 'yes, he's a sleaze with women and behaved badly - but he didn't behave that badly'.

Why are so many people rushing to defend him? What are you hopng to gain, other than to discredit Sturgeon? Do you want him back in office? Surely not!

Is this the post you meant hasn't been answered @BidensWingWoman? Just checking first!
BidensWingWoman · 18/02/2021 08:49

Yes, that's the one.

I've had someone respond, with the caveat that they aren't defending him. But I was aiming the question to those that are.

Greencabin · 18/02/2021 08:56

Boris.J annoys me with his dithering, he is far from perfect and has made lots of costly mistakes however, I feel he at least tries to relate to people where as Nicola.S comes across as incredibly smug and petty.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 18/02/2021 09:08

Ha green that is how I feel too. I also find NS smug. Boris is a dickhead but at least speaks as if he realises it’s utterly shit

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/02/2021 09:14

Fair enough. I'm afraid I'm also in the caveat crew so this might not help, but

  • having read a lot of the reporting from the actual time of the trial the line that I've sern often that he admitted the incidents but they just weren't classed as criminal doesn't seem correct, from what I can find he denied a substantial portion. Notable exceptions include the charge which went not proven, which I think is the vomit inducing sleepy cuddles Envy definitely not envy!
  • however he was clearly, at minimum, a sleazy fucker who thought nothing of trying to seduce (being polite) a large number of women who were often younger, his staff, or both. So I don't for a moment think he was a good man nor someone who should be in a position of power
  • contrary to others I don't think it was for Sturgeon to speak up if she was aware of incidents while he was in power. It is not the responsibility of women to police the behaviour of men.

But, none of that means that I think that what is slowly emerging about the complaints process creation and the handling of the complaints, nor the subsequent repeated attempts to hide it, is ok. It's not. Even if every single allegation was completely true the process should still be fair and unbiased. It wasn't. It was a murky mess

The question of when Sturgeon found out and why she has repeatedly lied about the date is part of that, but it's being jumped on I think because it's a provable lie IYSWIM. And because whichever way she swings it, it was dodgy.

That is actually separate, although linked, to the question of whether the allegations were factually accurate and if any were not where did they come from and why. And I don't know the answer to that but the way things were conducted, the communications between complainants, Murrell, civil servants, snp staffers, messages about pressurising the police, "we've lost the battle but not the war", the "maximum repercussions" message - they do create a concerning picture especially given the complainants identities and so I can see why a) the jury went not guilty and b) why there are "it was a set up" accusations.

I've said before that I don't know where on the cock up/cover up/conspiracy line this whole thing lies but there is a distinctly pungent odour emanating from the whole sorry mess and the more they try to redact and suppress the worse it looks.

BidensWingWoman · 18/02/2021 09:24

I don't know enough about it, but something isn't right, that's for sure.

But I've seen people calling for Salmond to head up the yes campaign and be a really pivotal figure in the whole independence movement. And I just don't understand it. In my opinion, that would have a really negative impact on the campaign. He has shown himself to have a dreadful attitude towards women, even if his behaviour wasn't criminal.

It's an interesting thing that I have clearly annoyed anti-independence people on here by pursuing the issue - but I have also really annoyed pro-independence people elsewhere for asking exactly the same thing. I didn't get an answer there either, just a lot of flack asking why I was posting on a pro independenc page when clearly I must be against it. And unlike on here, I had only made one comment.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/02/2021 09:33

Yeah, they're numpties. Even if you somehow had a situation where people were tried and found guilty of perjury/conspiracy/whatever over it then he still would not come out of this with a clean reputation.

Mind you, being a cheating shagger hasn't hurt Boris! But the accusations that Salmond is/was more than that will never go.

Hopefully now people will see that things posted by news sites as fact are, as I said, misreprenting the situation.

Oh, you really do not have a clue when it comes to discussing Shetland, do you? Why do people try to do this - post snippets of information which they think will be misleading when posted on their own, on the internet, without bothering to do the most basic research?

Anyone who lives within the UK should be aware that individual local government councillors have no mandate to speak for the majority. So why you think that one councillor is authoritative is a mystery.

To summarise, this article describes how one local councillor responded to a letter sent by a UKIP. He gives a neutral response, in keeping with his own political ambitions. He is distancing himself from UKIP which also fields candidates and which might take valuable votes from him.

Ryan Thomson however used to be a member of the independence movement in Shetland itself, Wir Shetland, and has consistently avoided stating that he is no longer a supporter. It is no doubt part of appealing to a wider electorate, and nothing wrong with that. It does not justify trying to prove some point that there is no support for greater autonomy from Scotland in Shetland, whatever form that may take.

This desperation on your part to post silly little articles to "prove" that there is no dissatisfaction with the democratic settlement in Shetland does, whatever you claim, indicate that you are an SNP supporter, doing the usual SNP thing of trying to place little bits of misinformation in the minds of internet users. Its very tiresome, very low level (it only appeals to less well educated so the branding is not really on point) and not particularly convincing.

It is patently obvious that you know nothing about Shetland, and have no connections with the place, and are extremely ignorant of what is going on there. You are actually being quite offensive when making these glib generalisations about a place which has such a distinct culture.

By the way, the "this popped up today" and the nit picking in place of standard analysis and evaluation is indicative of the SNP tendency to attempt to prowl the internet with their information. Who sent you this latest snippet of misunderstanding? You need better sources, or better still, an education which has properly equipped you with a thirst for proper research and knowledge, which is a real problem in Scotland now:

The Scottish Government also appears to be suppressing information on the problem:

It was the intent to rape charge which went unproven. So, pretty serious. Not just an innocuous sounding wee 'sleepy cuddles' scenario - although that was part of the charge.
many women are disillusioned (to say the least) with the court system - less than about five per cent of sexual assault charges end in conviction and convictions are at an all time low.
Salmond admitted some of his behaviour - he apologised to one of the complainants over it at the time she reported it. He is adamant what he did didn't stray into criminality though, and of course a jury agreed. His solicitor told one of the women in court that being groped in a nightclub 'wasn't traumatic at all was it'. So a man decided what level of trauma a women felt. Fine. I think while he was cleared it left a bad taste in people's mouths, to say the least. And while it's maybe not completely clear cut, they probably feel a lot of those women were fucked over by the court system. And now they are being dragged through it all again. I think this is partly maybe why people aren't jumping to Salmond's defence on here.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/02/2021 10:37

Ffs i didn't say it wasn't a serious charge, did I? No.
