Why are you so damn rude?

He /she also sounds quite angry, which is strange given she has "won".

HmmSureJan · 16/02/2021 17:41

DS new coat from Jack Wolfskin took five weeks to get here because it was held up due to Brexit postage changes. They gave me a £20 voucher though and the coat is fab so I would always order from them again.

Nothing else.

SabrinaThwaite · 16/02/2021 17:47

@redpencil77

Funny, though, when the ROI (or Irish Free State) went of on its own there was no hand wringing, was there? Plucky little Ireland no longer in the tyrant's pocket as the UK no longer made laws for it? Funny how the UK had to bail Ireland out in 2010 not the EU. And you tried voting out in sonething like 2006 and they made the Irish vote again???

You mean the £3.2 billion loan the UK made to Ireland in 2010 as part of the €85 billion European funding package, which is currently being repaid with around £80 million interest every year?

But then you can prove anything with facts ...

Tootsey11 · 16/02/2021 17:47

I live in Ni.

Ordinary parcels taking longer to arrive.
Cannot get seeds, plants etc delivered from the rest of the UK.
Amazon won't sell us vitamins, pet products etc
Lots of busineses including a family member cannot not get products sent from UK, his business relies on these.
Places like Dunelm The Range etc won't deliver larger products, they just cancel your order.

Brexit was remain or leave.
Brexit was not remain or half leave. I don't remember the option of staying half in and half out.
This is a load of shit that no one agreed to.

ListeningQuietly · 16/02/2021 17:51

COVID started a year ago.

The cardboard cut outs to hide empty shelves in the supermarket started this month.

  • pet food
  • frozen ready meals
  • cereals
  • tinned goods
  • salad veg
and that is BEFORE the UK starts to properly implement the WTO rules in April.

COVID is not the reason for customs clearance charges
Brexit is.

user1471565182 · 16/02/2021 17:52

price rises and vanished/completely stalled deliveries.

Crackerofdoom · 16/02/2021 17:56

Actually, the most negative impact on me personally has been reading the drivel from @redpencil77 on this thread.

Just think, if we had voted remain, this thread would never have existed.

Several valuable minutes of my life I will never get back Hmm

Alwaysandforeverhere · 16/02/2021 17:58

"No fresh herbs or lemons in our supermarket due to brexit."

Plenty of both here in aldi and co op.

Business is booming for us, always imported from the us so haven’t noticed extra charges or anything.

Twillow · 16/02/2021 18:01

@Insertfunnyname

My parents have both had the covid vaccine

Thank GOD for brexit or we’d be stuck in the eu vaccine program which has been exposed as woefully lacking.

Actually, the idea the UK is better off in terms of covid vacccines is a falsehood.

The UK are paying more and have accepted worse conditions for the vaccine (e.g. agreed a waiver in case of any issues it may later turn out to have/cause, which the EU have not).

And, while it APPEARS that the UK is full steam ahead with its vaccination programme, the gap between doses is being increased by several hundred per cent more than the recommendation, so while it LOOKS like lots of people have been vaccinated, very few have had the second injection.

BaileysforBreakfast · 16/02/2021 18:05

It's ok to pity the business overseas, but if the business is in the UK it can go to hell.
What on earth are you going on about, redpencil?
I am brimming over with sympathy for all the UK businesses that are suffering, some of whom are posting here and telling you that their lives have been made more difficult and their businesses are in jeopardy. I know two local businesses who import their raw materials from Europe who are on the brink of closure. It's all very well buying "British made", but not all materials can be sourced here. Only a couple of days ago, Raab was telling people to take a 10-year view. Do you think most SMEs can afford to do that?

I have to say that my sympathy is particularly with those who never voted for this shambles, but I do also feel very sorry for the UK fishing industry and those who work in it. IMO, they have been very badly let down. Would you agree?

LillianGish · 16/02/2021 18:12

I'm not sure why people are talking about COVID vaccinations - the vaccination programme has absolutely nothing to do with Brexit any more than the UK's woeful death rate in comparison with other EU countries has anything to do with Brexit. Typical of the muddled thinking which had people voting for something they didn't really understand in the first place.

MountainDweller · 16/02/2021 18:13

Reciprocal exchange agreement for driving licences not signed off yet with my country. Lots of U.K. companies have given up delivering to EU because they haven't sorted out paperwork. Tip of the iceberg I'm sure. People heard that there was a deal on 24 December and thought everything was sorted (hollow laugh)

jasjas1973 · 16/02/2021 18:15

Only a couple of days ago, Raab was telling people to take a 10-year view. Do you think most SMEs can afford to do that?

No one can afford to take a 10 year view, he is a dickhead, probably one of the worst ministers we have, didn't he say he hadn't realised the importance of Dover to UK trade? i mean anyone who has used that route surely couldn't have missed all those lorries????
Did he think they were empty? they are now!

I have to say that my sympathy is particularly with those who never voted for this shambles, but I do also feel very sorry for the UK fishing industry and those who work in it. IMO, they have been very badly let down. Would you agree?

Not really, i don't wish any hardship on them, let alone their families but the info was out there in 2016 and they choose to believe a charlatan like farage.

NotMeNoNo · 16/02/2021 18:17

The thing is none of these things affect everyone equally, climate change, Covid or Brexit. Just because it hasn't affected you personally, doesn't mean it's not real.

A guy talking about the problems for UK touring crew (for music gigs/tours) said the problem was his freedom of movement around the EU had been removed. OK the same for everyone else in the UK, but for some of us it's a technicality, for others their livelihood depends on it.

It's a trivial thing about tights and chocolates for any one person, but for the businesses supplying those things, it might put them out of business.

DdraigGoch · 16/02/2021 18:17

There are a few cones out in the A55. Otherwise I haven't seen anything. Parcels from the continent were hit and miss anyway thanks to Covid, I haven't seen anything obviously out of stock in the shops. So no, nothing directly affecting me.

If I do order anything online from Europe in future, I'll obviously have to double check the VAT details so that I don't get charged twice in error. The speed of our vaccine rollout should help us lift restrictions quicker and get the economy going again, the sooner that happens the sooner my employer returns to full production and overtime will be on offer again. That would benefit me.

LillianGish · 16/02/2021 18:18

I do also feel very sorry for the UK fishing industry and those who work in it. IMO, they have been very badly let down. Would you agree? I don't feel sorry for them if they voted for Brexit - they have got what they voted for. If they were too stupid to realise what they were voting for then more fool them.

Mintjulia · 16/02/2021 18:19

Nothing has changed for us.

Two dsis & bil have been vaccinated which wouldn't be so if the UK had ordered vaccine as part of the EU scheme.

derxa · 16/02/2021 18:19

Prices for lambs sold at auction have been at record highs this autumn and winter. May be due to a higher demand for meat during lockdown.
But diehard Remainers were telling me that Brexit would be a disaster for farmers and wishing for the collapse of my business.
Haven't noticed any food shortages at all.
Our regular Romanian cleaners have gone back home but have been replaced by a younger couple.
Glad we were not coopted into the EU vaccine procurement.

BonnesVacances · 16/02/2021 18:20

I wanted to buy a fold down seat for the landing for my disabled DD to sit on between her bedroom and the bathroom. The only suppliers I could find were in Europe, and they won't ship to the UK now.

I have also been looking for covers for a chair in her bedroom and the supplier of one in a specific colour palette to match her bedroom are based in Europe too, adding to the cost. Very frustrating.

Longer term, it popped up on my FB memories today that 9 years ago DS told me he was going to live in Paris when he was older. Unfortunately when he was older, all his grandparents voted to remove that opportunity from him.

MarshaBradyo · 16/02/2021 18:21

A higher cost to ship an item to US

£1700 to about £2400 (haven’t had final quote yet)

ListeningQuietly · 16/02/2021 18:21

MarshaBradyo · 16/02/2021 18:22

I haven’t seen an aubergine in Sainsbury’s for about a month. Not sure if Brexit but could be

LexMitior · 16/02/2021 18:24

A lot of these issues will decline as we get new supply chains into GB and NI. The other thing is that the systems being run by Britain need a massive IT upgrade - this should start to cut down paperwork. The issue is that right now none of that is going to change very rapidly - though Britain has learned something about the EU because of the Article 16 mess, so I imagine new supply chains will be something of an immediate priority!

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 16/02/2021 18:25

Nothing yet.

No fresh herbs or lemons in our supermarket due to brexit.

What?? There were loads of lemons in Tesco last week I made a lemon cake. It’s pancake day they run out this time every year.

ListeningQuietly · 16/02/2021 18:27

Marsha
There were aubergines in my Sainsbury's this afternoon.
Pretty manky ones and too small to be worth buying.
But then again its their short day growing season too.

It was the total lack of cat food
The HUGE gaps in the freezers
the cardboard cutouts in the tins aisles that really showed up.

And at the moment the UK is breaking the WTO rules by not checking imports from France and Belgium.
They are due to start in April
and the new head of the WTO will be on the case.
