I work in supply chain.Too many issues to mention!

One significant issue has been the woeful lack of preparation, and information for exporters, by the UK government, but I guess the new rules will embed over time.

So much more "red tape" than there used to be, as we now have to meet certain regulatory requirements as an importer whereas before, when goods were in free circulation, it was our EU suppliers who had to comply with the regs.

redpencil77 · 16/02/2021 16:00

@Amrythings

Food costs have jumped. Very random things have vanished from the supermarkets, both the UK chains and Irish supplied like Lidl and Dunnes.

Buying anything on Amazon is a crap shoot. Same with the big UK retailers.

The political/sectarian tensions are ratcheting up and I'm getting very fucking tired of being the UK government's chew toy.

Leave?
ListeningQuietly · 16/02/2021 16:04

I suppose in one way, the pandemic was timely as I assume that any issues with travel will be ironed by the time it’s over. I doubt countries like Greece, Spain, Portugal and Italy will want their economies to be decimated even more.
How can the issues be ironed?
The law has been signed.
The UK is a third party to the EU
Brits have the same travel rights as Venezuelans.

Helendee · 16/02/2021 16:05

No problems at all.

Veuvestar · 16/02/2021 16:05

I have no shower because the part is taking ages coming from Grohe in Germany- or the bathroom company is full of shit

daisyjgrey · 16/02/2021 16:06
  • It takes about 9 years for anything to be delivered if it's come from outside the UK.
  • Lost a lot of arts based uni funding.
  • My medication for a neurological problem has had to be sourced from the UK, it's now more expensive (to the NHS) and as it's a different brand, has different side effects etc. As a side note, it's also not coated or encapsulated so it is repulsive to swallow.
  • Close friend has lost all her funding to attend a university in Sweden, it's now not covered at all and has gone from normal post grad cost to around £30k a year, so she can't go.

And it's only February...

Brefugee · 16/02/2021 16:06

what? their home?

CyclesPerfecta · 16/02/2021 16:10

Yes, mu job! It’s gone to Europe.

The xenophobic right have now been given a microphone

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 16/02/2021 16:12

@redpencil77

Brrrrrrrrrrrrr(etc)

The actual vaccination programme, not its implementation. When folk were fearing for their health being picky over curtain colours or other such meaningless commercial rubbish was furthest from their minds.

Now that its under way the facile and shallow clearly are using Brexit as an easy target to say how shit their life is because they can't get sonething that their little tiny minds believe they can't live without amd for sone reason the fault lies with other people.

You did without your triple chocolate chunk hair dye, or whatever, for a year, you can do without it now, pay a little more or find an alternative. First world problem.

It’s more than just specialist luxury items, many businesses are experiencing massive supply chain issues and export snags. “Facile and shallow” is not really how I would describe people in those situations at all. It is however exactly how I would describe the absolute gullible melts who voted for this.
tara66 · 16/02/2021 16:16

''gullible melts'' !! Right on.

reluctantbrit · 16/02/2021 16:19

Yes
At work (Finance) - we can't get German interns from HQ anymore, we normally have them from 2-6 months, too expensive to arrange sponsering. But obviously the budget for proper staff is not there and there are not enough UK interns who speak German fluently enough.

Also, lots of our deals are with EU27 customers, we had to transfer a lot back to Germany but still do the admin out of London.

Privately
Too expensive to send parcels to Germany or from family to us.

German food prices from the German deli have significant increased and since I can't fly out and come back with a suitcase full of goodies I have to buy online.

Currently in negotiation with my German bank if I can still have an account with them or if I need to take bad exchange rates and transfer all over to the UK.

No real clarification what will happen with my German state pension in 10 years time, I do hope things will have settled down then.

Car parts take longer (VW)

School has already advised that the normal Y10 exchange trip to Spain next year is in doubt.

SinkGirl · 16/02/2021 16:20

A lot of “small UK businesses” you want to keep buying from may not survive for you to buy from them though, when they can no longer get their supplies and a large source of their custom has dried up.

I’ve been needing an order of materials since new year. Cost too prohibitive to order from the country of origin. It would be cheaper for me to buy it retail here... except none of the stockists have it as they can’t afford to import it either.

If I use a different product, I will have to spend months remaking all my samples (literally months) and it will still be more expensive than it was.

It’s a really really crap situation for many small business owners and all the smug responses here do not help.

Also, the stuff about medications weren’t scaremongering - there are issues with some medications, and much of the concern previously was about a no deal scenario which we fortunately avoided.

I'm really sorry to hear this, I really hope you manage to survive this. I know people in a similar situation and it's shit. So many people saying buy local / buy from the UK instead, without stopping to think about how those buisnesses have been affected.
1Morewineplease · 16/02/2021 16:29

We haven't experienced anything life changing but my son was told he couldn't attend an internship in Europe which would have been a fantastic opportunity.
I think it's so sad that so many of such internships and much of the Erasmus program has have been withdrawn.

Norwaydidnthappen · 16/02/2021 16:31

None so far which is sad because I was sort of hoping everything would fall apart.

readingismycardio · 16/02/2021 16:31

@soisolated

Cost of sending birthday present to my niece now more expensive than the item and took six weeks to arrive, and had to pay tax on receipt. What an utter shit show Brexit is
Came here to say exactly this! My friend sent me a parcel to France from the UK, and it cost 110 euros. before brexit it cost 25-30.

Why mot if you don't like something and you think the grass is greener. Its the snowflakes who now want to import the grass in plastic bags/boxes using carbon based fuels and natural resources
TiggerBounci · 16/02/2021 16:36

Xenophobia everywhere.

@DynamoKev why on earth would you question someone's experience of something similar to racism? Weird motive.

Where were you in 2016 then, demanding this was heard, putting your point across again and again? Campaigning that to leave the EU was wrong (and giving some tangible reasons?)

Or were you on your backsise thinking "It'll never happen" CBA

redpencil77 · 16/02/2021 16:41

Brrrrr(etc)
And, again, you were where when Brexit was voted on? Rather cosily sitting on tbe sidelines, methinks, like now, randomly throwing comments in. If a person's worried about their tighs FFS, then it is facile and shallow!

What the ACTUAL FUCK is wrong with you people?

Why should I leave Northern Ireland (where, you know, I've lived my entire life) because the English went and had a collective psychotic break and refuse to admit it?

Only if the Xenophobia is directed at the majority who voted for Brexit, nor the small businesses in the UK who are potentially the recipients of business. It's not OK to pity the business overseas yet say that UK businesses have to suck it up.
