I've not seen any personal downsides but nor have I seen any positives, which is a bit of a shame after 4 and a bit years of shit and spaffing untold billions up the wall on it.

@sluj

I have discovered some really lovely British cheeses which I will be buying in the future to support my local economy.
Luckily for you, even more UK supply for you to eat!

For those citing covid vaccinations as an advantage to Brexit, our procurement of vaccines has NOTHING to do with Brexit. If we had remained in the EU we would still have been able to procure our own supply of vaccines.

Now try and come up with a GENUINE advantage to Brexit. We’ve been waiting 5 years for anyone to come up with anything. I’m sure someone somewhere has something by now...

Sgtmajormummy · 16/02/2021 13:49

I’ve had to re-establish my healthcare, tax and National Insurance position with regards to fixed residency. It involved documents I hadn’t seen for 25 years, like our marriage certificate.
I have kept my British citizenship and DH is now my guarantor in this country. FGS, I’ve been a fruitful member of society and contributing to the economy for decades. All dismissed due to a decision I HAD NO VOICE IN!

Does the average UK citizen realise Brexit wasn’t just about sovereignty, it effectively meant cutting off compatriots in Europe? I think not.

nobodysdaughter · 16/02/2021 13:50

I was an ardent remainer but -

The proposed EU ban on blue and green tattoo inks won't affect my work at all if it comes into effect.

My mum has been vaccinated, and I should be soon.

passtheorange · 16/02/2021 13:58

Can't get Danish salami anywhere.

Potaytocrisps · 16/02/2021 13:59

Uncertainty in the healthcare/care sector where I work regarding the EU staff relied upon quite heavily at present.

My family in NI can't get deliveries (clothes) from Debenhams, Amazon, Sainsbury's and other retailers. I also can't just order their gifts from those websites, I need to factor in extra time and cost to have delivered to me too and then post them.
Some other random items scarce in the shops.
One of the saddest effects for me to see is the destabilising effect of Brexit on the still-fragile peace process in NI, in a place where most were Remainers.
One of the most baffling things is people who wanted to leave now complaining about the effects of leaving.

I don't see the vaccinations as an advantage of Brexit at all.

C152 · 16/02/2021 14:04

I can't buy the things I usually do from the EU and I have people openly telling me I can 'go home now'.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 16/02/2021 14:06

Passport colour not what I was expecting.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 16/02/2021 14:09

Two t-shirts from Amazon took a month to get here instead of the 48 hours they anticipated, as they went to and fro between the Netherlands and various UK ports repeatedly over the period. Several items never delivered at all.

My Biologics (manufactured in Europe) are now delivered right at the point of running out instead of enough for 3 months at a time. This therefore costs the delivery company (and presumably at some point, the NHS) considerably more and makes me more vulnerable to disruptions in the supply chain, such as drivers off sick, adverse weather conditions or difficulty getting the things imported in the first place.

Whilst lockdown continues, I think we're possibly insulated from some of the consequences as we aren't out and needing additional things. Afterwards, I think it'll begin to show - but it'll all be blamed upon Covid 19 instead.

I'm sure somebody somewhere is making a shedload of money out of it, though. Somebody always is.

bluebluezoo · 16/02/2021 14:14

House refurb a nightmare as bathroom etc suppliers aren’t getting stock in, and when the lorries do get through they have no idea what’s on them to fulfil orders.

On the positive side pushed to get the dual nationality EU passport me and the kids are eligible for. I probably wouldn’t have bothered otherwise.

RusholmeRuffian · 16/02/2021 14:15

Can no longer order things from some European shops
Deliveries to and from EU countries taking longer
Massive headaches at work re importing and exporting

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 16/02/2021 14:24

My daughter can’t order the Norris Nuts clothing item she wants from Australia because of failed Brexit

yikesanotherbooboo · 16/02/2021 14:24

Gaps on supermarket shelves.

zoemum2006 · 16/02/2021 14:25

My passport (that expires in August) is no longer valid to travel to Spain in Easter.

Of course because of Covid it's a moot point but annoying nonetheless.

Brexit damaged my business from March 2017 (May triggering A50) but Covid has mothballed it so it's impossible to see the current effects of Brexit.

Crackerofdoom · 16/02/2021 14:27

I am having to apply for a Visa to stay in France. If there was a family emergency, I couldn't go home to the UK because if Covid restrictions tighten whilst I am there, France would not be obligated to allow me to return.

This has happened to lots of people resident in, but not citizens of NZ and something we would have been protected from before.

I like to buy English books etc. from smaller UK suppliers and pay postage to avoid using Amazon but many won't ship to the EU now.

I am lucky that DH is from ROI so he and kids have dual nationality which makes a lot of things easier than for many of my friends here.

Chloemol · 16/02/2021 14:28

No problems at all

Catterpillar · 16/02/2021 14:28

52% Vs 48% at the moment. Ironic!

SpringisSpinning · 16/02/2021 14:28

There is more free choice for eu countries, they were all strongly encouraged too go via the main channels..

What did von lyon say? The UK got away like a fast speedboat whilst she is in charge of a great big lumbering soviet era tank?

I've ordered stuff from the eu companies operating here and had amazing service... Stuff shipped from Netherlands and Spain etc.. No problem, no cost...

I think supply issues will depend on a few things aside from brexit.. As well as expected initial problems due to it...

How well each company operates, covid issues, container issues.. Etc etc..

SpringisSpinning · 16/02/2021 14:29
  • there is no free choice that should say
Comefromaway · 16/02/2021 14:29

My daughter has seen two jobs advertised that she would have applied for and has friends who applied for and got similar jobs with the same agency and she is no longer able to.

Justcallmebebes · 16/02/2021 14:32

"No fresh herbs or lemons in our supermarket due to brexit."

I don't understand this one. Loads of both in Lidl, Sainsburys and Aldi.

refusetobeasheep · 16/02/2021 14:33

Getting hold of shrubs and trees proving problematic / more expensive. There's a great business opportunity there for someone ...

Iris27 · 16/02/2021 14:36

F*cking nightmare getting anything delivered from Europe now

SunscreenCentral · 16/02/2021 14:36

Not in the UK but the extra tariffs mean that my eBay habit has been severely affected 😆 Most of the stuff I used to buy came from UK (eg a tapestry kit cost an extra 38e in January) but many people have switched to eBay.fr or eBay.de
There’s talk of Amazon setting up properly here too but considering their treatment of staff I don’t see that as a bonus.
Things in the north are more fraught which is a direct result of Brexit, v worrying.
