Reporting neighbours for reserving a parking space with cones

Fully happy to admit I Abu, obviously too much time on my hands.

We live on street where it's all street parking for terraced housing. The couple opposite everyday the lady leaves the house, man runs out with parking cones to save the parking space. They have upgraded to parking cones it used to be the wheelie bins.

Aibu to report them to the council? Parking ban be limited but you can usually park a few houses up or down and most times outside your own home.

It just really riles me and to be honest it's dangerous.

Dh thinks I'm being a busy body

Just move the cones?

Maybe she has a disability? Or elderly?

I dunno. Can you still park?

ChonkyChook · 16/02/2021 10:29

Does he actually run?

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 16/02/2021 10:30

Just move the cones.

Stack them neatly by their front door.

ScarfaceCwaw · 16/02/2021 10:30

Sure, you can report her, if you want to turn yourself into the kind of miserable overinvolved busybody that everyone hates plus bore and annoy the poor council sod that has to tell you politely to bog off.

Everyone can park close to their house. There is literally no problem. Go and find something better to think about. Do a free OU course or start some virtual volunteering or something.

YodaBabe · 16/02/2021 10:30

Ahh I feel I need to add

We think she may work for the nhs she comes and goes at different times, does that make a difference?

Like I say I am fully aware I have too much invested in this as wfh and looking out of the window all day

Yy to move the cones and park there if you need to, you can reserve on street parking spaces

BooFuckingHoo2 · 16/02/2021 10:31

I can see why this annoys you!

A few people near where I live have put “no parking” signs on their walls/fences referencing the (public) road outside their houses, it irrationally makes me want to drive out of my way and park there Grin. You can’t just decide to claim part of the public road ffs!

Letshavesometea · 16/02/2021 10:32

We used to have a neighbour who did this, we just parked there anyway and moved the cones and so did the other residents in our street. However, if you don't want them to know its you then yes report

BeneficiaryMadness · 16/02/2021 10:33

Why dangerous???

RandomUsernameHere · 16/02/2021 10:33

I would just move the cones if you want to park there. Agree it's ridiculous and annoying to "reserve" a space on a public road!!

TierFourTears · 16/02/2021 10:33

I wouldnt report, but if that was the only place sensible to park, I would move the cones and park there.

YodaBabe · 16/02/2021 10:33

@ChonkyChook he sprints! There is a real danger some days of a flash from under his dressing gown the speed he moves Smile

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/02/2021 10:34

My neighbours used to do this. I never considered reporting them, I just moved the cones and parked in the lovely space they had saved for me. I would stack the cones neatly on their page so they could reserve it for me again the next day.

They stopped doing it eventually.

OutingMyself · 16/02/2021 10:35

I don't think anyone would be interested tbh. What would they do?

Chasingsquirrels · 16/02/2021 10:35

I couldn't get excited by this, especially if there are no real parking issues.
But if I wanted to park there I'd move the cones.

TitusPullo · 16/02/2021 10:36

Another one saying move the cones and watch them quietly fume and leave rude notes on your windscreen because what else can they do. People on my street (including me) sometimes do this when we are expecting large deliveries/having building work that requires machinery/moving house etc. We all respect that because no one takes the piss. This is taking the piss.

ScarfaceCwaw · 16/02/2021 10:37

Yes, seriously, what do you expect the council to do? Stop collecting their rubbish? Put them on a People We Don't Like list and throw darts at their names? Take the cones away unless they promise to play nice in future?

They have better things to do. And you should.

RapunzelHadExtensions · 16/02/2021 10:39

Hahaha what losers. Another one saying move the cones. They don't own a piece of road, assuming no disabilities meaning they've put a drop curb in or anything?

Suzi888 · 16/02/2021 10:41

It would annoy me too. I’d probably park in the space Grin and move the cones haha

LeroyJenkinssss · 16/02/2021 10:41

Ha I’d park there purely on the basis it would annoy me greatly. Similar to a PP when I lived in a terrace with terrible parking, people would put cones out only if expecting large deliveries. Nobody took the kick so this would irrationally wind me up and I’d probably shift my car out of pwttiness

Chanandlerbong01 · 16/02/2021 10:43

A lady in my street has put a no parking sign on her fence. It’s brilliant for me because I get home from work before her so I see it as my reserved spot. It’s quite a big space so easier for parking.

LaceyBetty · 16/02/2021 10:47

I don't see why this wouldn't annoy people. We have someone on our street who did this and it really wound me up. So entitled! I wouldn't report it though, I might have a word with the neighbours (but I'm not overly afraid of "polite" confrontation, I know some hate it). And no, I don't have a lot of time on my hands, I just can't stand people who think the rules apply to everyone else but them.

user1493494961 · 16/02/2021 10:49

I would just move the cones if I needed to park, I'm surprised more people don't.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 16/02/2021 10:50

I live on a road with only onstreet parking. Its also one of the first roads that aren't pay parking before you hit the town centre so there's always a lot of competition for spots.
I'd find this a bit cheeky if one of my neighbours did it but really couldn't be bothered. Not really worth getting het up about and the council probably have better things to worry about.

Missteebeee · 16/02/2021 10:51

It’s illegal to leave bins in the road

Move any obstruction and park there if you need to
