Reporting neighbours for reserving a parking space with cones

Fully happy to admit I Abu, obviously too much time on my hands.

We live on street where it's all street parking for terraced housing. The couple opposite everyday the lady leaves the house, man runs out with parking cones to save the parking space. They have upgraded to parking cones it used to be the wheelie bins.

Aibu to report them to the council? Parking ban be limited but you can usually park a few houses up or down and most times outside your own home.

It just really riles me and to be honest it's dangerous.

Dh thinks I'm being a busy body

@TheYearOfSmallThings

My neighbours used to do this. I never considered reporting them, I just moved the cones and parked in the lovely space they had saved for me. I would stack the cones neatly on their page so they could reserve it for me again the next day.

They stopped doing it eventually.

This ^

I used to live on a street where at least two houses had cones outside their property. I'd just move them!

Begonias · 16/02/2021 20:53

My parents Street use the bins to reserve their spots. The whole street does this. My dad is 79 and parks in a car park a street away as he never finds a spot in front of his house.
There's been 2 fights over people moving bins and parking in the reserved spots . The police don't seem to care that there's obstructions on the road.

fairydustandpixies · 16/02/2021 21:03

I have regular neighbours who do this! I tried it and got my cones removed and had a note through my door from the local council about unlawful parking something or other! Now me and a neighbour a few doors down, if we want to park and the cones are out, double park, chuck the cones on the pavement and pop our cars in the space. Its infuriating because I pay £90 every 6 months for a permit to park in a local pay and display when there's not a space outside and these CFs think they own the street 🙄 I'm actually disabled so should pull my finger out for a blue badge tbh!

What happens on bin day?
Keeva2017 · 16/02/2021 21:44

Steal the cones. Under cover of darkness. Please?????

Begonias · 16/02/2021 23:10

On bin day binmen just empty the bins and put them back where they found them. If they can't get past they just leave the bins. Trouble is each house has 2 cars and in a street full of terraced houses you are not going to be able to park both your cars in front of your house. People end up double parking. Even wardens won't ticket the idiots cars.
It's a bloody nightmare driving to my parents on a weekend.

abw94 · 16/02/2021 23:21

If you're WFH how on earth is this affecting your day?

Yes because the police are absolutely there to move obstructions that petty folk have put there on purpose.

Suja1 · 17/02/2021 17:20

Busybody

Buffs · 17/02/2021 17:23

That would annoy me too.

Justa47 · 17/02/2021 17:27

@YodaBabe

If she works for the NHS you can apply for a special place.

Otherwise I would move cones.

TrixieMixie · 17/02/2021 17:29

How is it dangerous? You sound as if you are too idle. If you are meant to be WFH then work, don't be a busybody.

Plunger · 17/02/2021 17:32

If she has a disability the council can mark a parking space for disabled only. Report them. It really p*** me off that certain individuals think they own the road outside their property.

DdraigGoch · 17/02/2021 17:39

Just do this:

Dragonsmother · 17/02/2021 17:40

Oh man! I feel your pain.
If people need a dedicated parking outside their hose their should be a house with a drive or with marked bays.
The kn*b a few doors from us leaves notes on cars that park outside his house. We have all painfully paid nearly £15k and turned the front lawn into a drive. However he has kept the front lawn- overgrown and a mess!!

ElsieMc · 17/02/2021 17:41

Interesting thread. We have awful neighbours who choose to block off quite a bit of the street with cones and they have huge amounts of private parking. They simply dont want cars parked across the road from their windows.

They say it's to make it easy to get out, then changed it to needing an ambulance for their family member. There is tons of parking for the imaginary ambulance. I have moved them once or twice but he rushes out and replaces them. I envisage a stand off going on for a few hours. Maybe I should film and post.

There is no remorse or apology by the way, they just shout and scream if anyone challenges them.

exaltedwombat · 17/02/2021 17:53

Be careful. When you involve the council in a parking issue they only ever have one response - yellow lines. This never results in MORE parking spaces.

I have a neighbor who does this - they use the wheelie bin though. It annoys me. But I am spineless and not sure who would care if I complained! No disability or anything. Just entitlement.

Beverley71 · 17/02/2021 19:44

Pre COVID my kids went to Taekwondo and parking was on a terraced residential street. The residents were truly awful. Two cars blocked me in once, only my skill and 360 degree camera got me out. What I really wanted to do was to ram both the cars full pelt.

Harmonypuss · 17/02/2021 19:47

I totally agree with those who say you should move the cones and park there if you want to, they'll give up doing it eventually.

Someone very early in the thread said something about the lady in question possibly being elderly or disabled.... age doesn't qualify anyone for special treatment regarding parking a car but if disabled you can apply to the council to have a disabled parking bay painted on the road as long as the spot isn't within a certain distance of a bus stop, junction, dropped kerb etc.

BrownEyedBlonde · 17/02/2021 20:28

@YodaBabe I’ve not read further yet than when you’ve mentioned you now WFH and are probably over invested!

Yes, you are!

I have a NDN just like you. She now works from home and I can see her head bob up every time I leave the house! Stop! Just get on with WFH!

threatmatrix · 17/02/2021 21:06

Are you jealous you didn’t think of it first? That’s why I would be annoyed.

YodaBabe · 17/02/2021 21:18

For everyone saying I'm over invested and should just get on wfh, Yes! Absolutely you're right. I've turned into that meerkat 'Bob Bob Bob'!

Update - she obviously couldn't get in the tiny space left, so parked elsewhere about 14 extra steps away . Excitement was ahoy today as a council van parked over road for awhile and husband didn't run out with the cones (wimp) so we'll have to see what happens tomorrow.

I completely agree I need a life 👍
